Here's my contribution to the best marketing tip of all time, though I in no
way claim that this is the best marketing tip of all time. Truth is, I'm not sure
what that would be as there are so many things important to marketing.

    Anyway, here goes.

Don't jump into just anything. Sit down and think out a plan. If you don't
know how to do that and are serious about starting a REAL business, then
invest the money into getting a business planning consultant...somebody
    who REALLY knows there stuff.

They will help get you on the right track with a business model that will have
a more than decent shot at succeeding and ultimately save you countless
hours in lost time and countless dollars in wasted money.

Now that I think of it, maybe this IS the best marketing tip of all time.

    Hi Ron

    My tip:

How about, if you can't think of anything original for yourself, how about just hitching a ride with someone who can.

Ha, that's a pretty damn good internet marketing tip, actually! Not sure if it's the best internet marketing tip, but it's damn good!

      Here's my internet marketing tip:

Just as you one would incorporate to gain benefits from incorporation, one should create a MASTER BUSINESS ACCOUNT for him or herself in situations where it would benefit him or her.

EXAMPLE: No one referred you to service X, but you are going to join because you are now ready to expand your business. You sign up as an affiliate under your MASTER account and then join service X on your usual account via your MASTER account affiliate link.

Some places might say you can't do this so a) don't do it there; but, b) it doesn't make it illegal or unethical even if some people can't bring themselves to do it.

Putting the difference into a savings account with compounding interest could be the difference between you putting your grandchildren through college in 20-30 years, or not.

      That's my internet marketing tip.

      Thanks for the opportunity, Ron.

You lost me here, why would I want to sign up as an affiliate under my master account giving me 2 affiliate accounts with the same organization?

Do you actually make more money this way?

OK - this is very short, but I really do believe it to be the Best Internet Marketing Tip of all time. Here it is ...

    Do Your Own Thinking!

In order to really do well online, you have to stand out in some way; and when you follow what others are doing, your chances of doing that are more limited.

Don't get me wrong, you need to know the basics: you need to learn all about the methods and techniques widely employed by all the successful marketers, but you also need to find your own voice.

    So once again ...

    Do Your Own Thinking!

You'll be amazed at what might happen.

    Will

I with Steven on this one - the planning stage

Best Internet Marketing Tip - Every Morning before you start your day on the internet..spend your first 20 minutes away from the computer.

Good old fashioned pen and paper and write down:-

A list of tasks that will help you achieve what you want for the day

then what you need to actually do to achieve those tasks

Whether you can complete that task yourself or if someone else needs to do it

How long it will take that task to be completed

Tick off your "To Do" list throughout the day

My best internet marketing tip is to be "Approachable". Approachability wins! Approachability establishes comfort, creates connections and builds TRUST.

For most people, BUYING is an emotional decision. They justify their purchase with logic later.

People do not buy from websites- THEY BUY FROM PEOPLE
    &
People do not buy from people they don't know or trust, especially online.

I think it's important to market YOU Inc! Market yourself, not your business opportunity, service or product. When people get a feel for who you are, the MAGIC will follow

    Cheers!

      Here my Internet marketing tips:
      • Find One area that you want to concentrate on and begin doing your research on it. Research at the Warrior Forum, Google it, get free reports, start taking notes. It could be: affiliate marketing, article writing, website design, writing e-books, CPA networks, flipping websites, and the list goes on and on. (Evernote is great for taking notes)
      • Focus on this one area. Don't get sidetracked and start reading about all of the other thousands of Internet marketing techniques and opportunities out there.
      • Make a plan. You're going to be running a business here so you're going to need a plan. Even if it's just one piece of paper and you've written down the 10 -- 100 tasks you need to do that it is the beginning of your plan. (It's excellent if you prioritize those tasks)
      • Take Action. This seems to be the point that trips up many people. It's easy to read forum posts, it's easy to read all of the PDF e-books and files. Take a look at the plan you made up, even if it is just a list of tasks, and take action on one of those tasks. When you've got that done take action on another task.
      • Hook up with people. Find a community site, Ning has thousands, and no matter what type of Internet Marketing you're doing there will be a group of people somewhere in a forum or a community site. Find those people and join in the conversation. If you've developed some new type of Internet marketing, start your own forum or community site.
      • Keep taking action.

Mine is: Start small and build a solid foundation, whether it is knowledge or a product or a specific niche. Don't be sucked in by the "make 1,000 in a day" promises. Find something you like, research it, know it then run with it. This is a great community, but get into a few that are involved with what specifically interests you, get involved in forums, groups, etc.
Example for me is, photography. But since it is too general, I go for Canon Users, again too general, then I go to Canon AE-1 users, there I find thousands of people interested in a very specific product that is within a very large community.

Finally, always have GREAT graphics by me. (ha)

Tip: Great way to get free internet marketing tuition?

      - Create a free email account at google, yahoo or another email host of your choice.

      - Sign-up to "top marketer" email newsletters.

      - Recieve a bucket load of emails which most probably have been targeted, tested etc.

      - All that's left is for you to do your homework i.e. Look at the subject lines, length of email, content, intention, sub-message, value they provide etc.

      - Model your own messages on what you've learned.

      It's simple, but effective.

  • Great thread, Ron.

My tip would be this: Take a few minutes and think about what what skills you possess such as creative writing, computer programming, graphic design, video creation, voice over expert or computer technician just to name a few.

Once you figure out what your strength skills are, start doing some market research into target niches to see if there is a demand for something that you could design, develop and market.

An example would be some one who is a web developer and can write plug-ins for software packages that automates a repetitive task or relieves a specific pain point.

If you can package it up, market it, sell it, rinse and repeat you are well on your way to a great and prosperous IM career.

Stay highly focused on taking massive action with a proven plan.

Perhaps it is because of my background in Industry (ISO9000) but I really like having a business ran by business systems. I know it's not popular and I know some may feel it keeps them from being creative but I believe it is knowing exactly what to do next that keeps you from wasting time and allows you to stay focused on the action steps that you must take. And if you are following a proven plan then you already know the outcome and the direction of the goal posts.

Build a website which looks professional. Poor site means that you won't develop the trust of your visitors. Some of the affiliate marketing sites that I see are so awful! If you get this wrong all of your traffic building efforts are wasted.

Here's my contribution, even if it's more of a principle for profitable business than strictly Internet Marketing...

Don't compete on PRICE... compete on VALUE.

Angling downward in your marketing by trying to be the "low-cost leader" is a sure fire way to put yourself in the poor house. When you compete on price, all you're really doing is shaving off a slice of your profits.

Less profits means less money to acquire new customers and grow your business. Less profits means less money to support your existing customers and keep them happy. Less profits means less money to develop new products to sell to your customers.

    Sell to buyers, not shoppers.

When times are tough, buyers look for value. Shoppers look for price.

Shoppers will spend a whole day scouring the Internet to save $5 on a spindle of DVD's. Buyers will spend an EXTRA $5 because the DVD's are the brand that never fails and works perfectly with their DVD burner.

Shoppers will drive all over town to save 10¢ on a gallon of gas. Buyers pay an extra 10¢ a gallon from their favorite station because they like the owner and have been buying gas there for a decade.

Who is more valuable to you, not only in the short term, but especially in the long run?

Compete on VALUE, not on PRICE.

    Great thread, Ron.

    Best,

    Brian

As important as it is to have a clear business plan when starting out, it is equally important to take massive ACTION. Too many people sit around looking for more information.

My father always used to tell me "Son, do SOMETHING even if it's wrong." Now I took that to mean, don't sit around waiting for everything to be perfect before you begin doing anything because it will NEVER be perfect.

Some of the greatest lessons are learned by experience. Don't worry about making mistakes. You're going to make them and chances are you'll make some doozies. But you'll also learn what doesn't work and if you're smart you'll make adjustments along the way. Then if you're patient and persistent you will come out a winner.

My best web marketing tip is to find and follow your passion.

Instead of chasing money discover what you're passionate about: Something that you can write page and page on. Something which makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning. Something which you're enthusiastic about and could talk about endlessly. Something which contributes to the lives of other people significantly and something they're happy to exchange money for.

Do that, and you've made web marketing extraordinarily easy. Plus you'll never have to work another day in your life.

Personally I have three passions two of which I'm working on at the moment. The first is my information publishing company which provides people with advanced communication advice. The second is my personal development blog titled "Fighting Demons." And my third long-term passion is writing an inspirational book and founding a personal development company.

If I had to pick just one Internet Marketing tip to be the "Best internet marketing tip of all time" this is it...

Build your own in-house marketing list.

I'm not just talking about a list of prospects who got something from you for free. I'm talking about having a master in-house marketing list, whether email based, a list of physical addresses, or phone lists.

You need a list of leads (people who don't know you or care about what you have to offer but are willing to give you the opportunity to turn them into people who are at least interested)

You need a list of prospects (people who are interested in what you offer...they ask you questions about your products and services, and mostly, are considering purchasing your products and services)

You need a list of buyers (people who have purchased your prodcuts and services and will continue to purchase your products and services for years to come)

You need a list of lifetime customers (people who have purchased from every price point multiple times...$10,$30,$50, and then $97, $197, $397, $997, $1997, and so on).

Everything you do in your Internet business should be to get people into one of these lists within your system. Anything you do that has nothing to do with building your marketing lists is a waste of your time.

Even when you sell a product it should always come back to getting people on your marketing list. Your marketing list is everything. Without it, no money making strategy on all the Internet (even AdSense) matters. They won't be effective without your own marketing list first. A list of people to contact and build a relationship with over time to build profits for the long term. It all starts and ends with your marketing list.

Some tips from a copywriting standpoint:

      1. Remember that your website visitors are reading from a computer screen. This is not the most comfortable process in the world.

      2. Touch on the problem/pain lightly - then sell the magic of a dream big-time. This can be done a number of ways, depending on the target audience.

      3. Don't clutter up your site with too many bells-and-whistles. Remember that graphics support the text - not vise-versa! It's all in the words - and the mood the graphics create that mirror the words.

      4. Use lots of headers and subheaders - this encourages skimmers and "looky-loos" to get back into reading the text.

      5. Be honest. Make the biggest promise or claim you honestly can - then prove it. Depending again on the target audience, different techniques of proof ring true to them.

      Hope this helps,

Staying focused and organized are the biggest challenges I have every day. What I've found helps is to really set my goals in morning for what I want to accomplish that day. Write them down in a list and be realistic and be very specific. Don't write "put up a website" that's way too vague. You may not be sure of everything you want on the website or have everything ready yet. Break it down into parts. "Put up the sales page", "Put up the pay page", "Submit 5 articles" etc.

Only write down what you can realistically accomplish that day. What this does is pull you back inline when you get distracted. You have a short list to refer to. It is so easy to get distracted when using the internet. You go off on a tangent following an email or links that sound interesting and before you know it your day is shot. Stick to the first thing on the list and get that done.

Once you've completed a couple of items you'll feel very motivated because you'll have a sense of accomplishment. You are actually getting things done! Best of all you will be productive. You will be moving to that end goal. If you put too much on the list you'll get frustrated because you won't be able to complete it. Make sure your list in small enough to be completed with daily distractions and setbacks but long enough to be really productive. If you finish you list with hours to spare in the day, take the rest of the day off or add something else to the list.

What we've done here is create organization, productivity, and a positive mental attitude. All with one little list. The mind is easily manipulated! At least mine is. You won't feel overwhelmed by the enormity of your projects because you've broken them down into small parts.

I hope this helps at least one person out there get more organized.

My Best internet marketing tip of all time:
Don't try and re-invent the wheel, especially when you've just joined a market.
Practice the best ESTABLISHED strategies out there, and put them to work.
Preferably, put them to work in a field of YOUR interest. This is really important, because it will keep you interested...
Once you got the hang of this, THEN go ahead a break that wheel apart to rebuild to your taste and apply in the field of choice... preferably whatever looks more lucrative.

Best advice I can give you is get up off your backside and go out and meet people in the business at any gathering you can, workshops, seminars, local mastermind groups even local chamber of commerce meetings.

My best internet marketing tip is to think outside the box. The best way to do this is not look at all of your direct competitors.

Of course, you need to keep tabs on your competition, but don't spend all of your time studying them. If you do, your website, service, etc. will only mirror your competitors. To be successful you need to be "different".

Now I am going to reveal the best tip for being successful...

One of my marketing managers once told me the best way to be different is to introduce ideas from other industries into your niche. The best way to do this is to study and read trade magazines/ezines from other industries and niches and see what works in those industries and apply them to your industry. By doing this, you will be different from your competitors because you are introducing a "new and innovative" approach into your niche.

I personally subscribe to about 10 different magazines from 10 different industries. I don't read them from cover-to-cover I usually thumb through them, read a few articles and donate them to a local doctor's office. But every month I pick up a lot of great ways of doing business then I apply those ideas to my online businesses.

Best of all most of industry trade magazines are available for a 1 year free subscription. This works great for me.

Give is a try and let me know how it works for you.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Internet Marketing Tip
Here's mine. It is all based on emotions and dreams. This example will use a relationship.

We all know that buying impulses are triggered by emotions. Now let's take it one step further and see how selling a dream or a fantasy with internet marketing can yield spectacular results.

This is straight from my course. . .

The best marketing people understand that they are selling a fantasy to the prospect. It could be a fantasy of wealth, sex, fast cars. It could be ANYTHING. The key here is to understand what your niche sees as a fantasy. Once you understand what the group as a whole has for dreams. . . you can use that as a deadly weapon to make more sales. Here is what you need to sell the fantasy.
    • Top Bar/Header Graphic has all the correct elements of color messaging, images, and text. This is part of the fantasy. If you don't have this correct, the dream of what they want won't be complete.
    • Testimonials, people need proof, so have testimonials of people who have used your product and show how they are living out their dreams by using the product/service.
    • Ad-Copy, must tell a story and draw the person in. It must relate to them and they must believe you are speaking directly to them. You will be the voice in the wildnerness that delivers that product-salvation.
Who sells fantasies? McDonald's, look at the happy people in the commercials, happy families happy children. People really believe that by going to Mcdonalds, and eating the food, that they too will become happy.

It is important to note that your prospects will judge your product/service by recalling experiences they have had from the past. This is called "Euphoric recall" Have you ever met a new person and maybe did not like them because they reminded you of someone else? Or met a new person and you were drawn into their persona because maybe at one time you loved someone who looked similar?

This is a powerful and sometimes deadly tool in marketing. Experience is powerful. Let me give you an example.

Let's say you are selling a product to women, and this product can put the fire back into a relationship. She is at the site because SHE WANTS THIS. She is unsure though, as her mind is not wrapping around the idea.

You might say, "Think back to when you first met your husband, that first kiss, the magic you felt in this moment. The incredible love you started to feel and the bond that was built. . ." Now think of today and ask yourself this question, "Wouldn't it be great to bring this fire back to life?"

That is her fantasy, and we selling her on previous knowledge of how it felt to have happiness. She had it once and she can have it again. YOU will be her product-salvation.

If all of the elements are in place. The images, the testimonials and the correct ad-copy. . . She will make the purchase. Purchasing products is an emotional based decision. What you have done here is to take her back to a place where everything was incredible. She will be recalling the great feelings, and chemicals will be released into her brain. You then bring her back to the present and ask her a question.

The question must be answered with a yes. Not a no. She will say yes in her mind, and knowing that she can have what she once had. . . she will go ahead and purchase the product/service.

You must sell a dream. Get to the place where they are.

    Quick Example:

    Dear Friend,

Relationships are difficult, just look at all the divorces, people these days. . . they don't take the time to work at something so rare as true love.

Allow me to make a confession.

Things were not always good in my relationship. Well, they were at first, but as the weeks turned to months and the months to years. . . I could sense we were drifting apart.

Do you feel that same frustration? It is a horrible feeling, isn't it?

What do you do? What did I do? Let me explain briefly, I searched in vain, went to 50 or 60 web sites, no one had the solution. . . Then it came to me. . .

Before I reveal to you how you can go ahead right now and have that happiness all over again, I want to take you on a trip through time. . .

Think back to when you first met, that first kiss, that first hug, that very first deep and intimate moment. It felt incredible, didn't it? Now think of today, wouldn't you like to have what you had then, and right now?

Do you see what just happened here? We drew the reader in. . . Got to the same place they are and then took her back to when things were great. Pulled her out of the great times and offered to get her back there.

This is using the emotions and recall of your prospects to get in touch with them at their level and sell them there dreams. . .

Hope you enjoyed that. . . I did not edit this. . I wrote it just five minutes ago and just pasted it right in. Well. . . time to go edit and add a few more pages and then read it off into the good old microphone.

  • Well, we are the folks behind MarketingTips.com, so.

    Here are a few:

    1. Finding a niche is the key to success. You can't develop a product without finding a market first.

    2. Solve a problem. If you're solving a problem that actually exists, you'll always have buyers.

    3. Put time into your copy, be it long or short. Leading your visitors through your sales process is KEY.

    4. Make sure your website WORKS -- all your navigation, your checkout... if it works, your visitors won't lose their patience on the way to becoming customers.

    5. FOLLOW UP -- email marketing is a must-have, and one of the cheapest arrows in your quiver.

    6. If you get involved in social media, get involved in the conversation. Broadcasting is for radio.

    7. Care about the people you sell to -- and you'll find that they notice.

This applies to newbies but also to the more experienced.

Stop trying to do half a dozen things at once.

Stop reading every damm e-book/ program /sales copy that get's released, you're not actually going to miss out on "the most important brilliant, amazing, top secret" product in existance, it will still be there in 6 months time, despite what they tell you.

Focus on one thing and one thing only, stop reading IM e-mails and hitting send'/receive every 5 minutes.

Write down a plan of action for one project and stick to it.

    my contribution:

Establish a very personal relationship with your web site visitors, and get away from the avg "sales page" "squeeze page" impression MOST websites gives.

Realize that your potential customer is one of the millions of people on the net searching for information and answers, your site is just ONE of maybe a few dozen this person will visit tonight, whatever he/she is searching.

The art is to make the visitor STOP browsing and searching.

Whether he/she is looking for a health remedy or IM marketing course or way to make money online: It doesn't matter.

Instead of trying to push a SALE at any cost, have a site which talks TO the customer and makes him think that he can now stop "researching".

Maybe he searches for "the best digital camera for under $100"....YOU are the one who did the research, you provide the proof and review, YOUR expertise as an expert in this field.

You list the benefits of this product (whether its YOURS or whether you are an affiliate, doesn't matter)...you compare...YOU provide all information to make the site visitor stop going from one site to the other.

Visitor gets real information from YOUR site - the information he is looking for. He is likely NOT looking for your avg. "sales pitch"...he has seen many, many already...before you..and after your site...

Establish a personal relationship. You, the authority, with the site visitor on the other end. Convince him. Provide value.

    Believe me, it works!

As most of you know, taking surveys and participating in focus groups for profit are usually scams. I discovered there are a few legitimate ones as long as you are willing to register for enough companies. $20.00 a day at a bare minimum is not unreasonable in two month's time working 2 hours a day. Here are the ones you will want to check out:

    PaidSurveysETC (best organized)
    PaidSurveyScout (best for beginners)
    HighestPaidSurvey (pays the most)
    ExpressPaidSurvey (good in general)

Best marketing tip is to simply learn and implement.....

People make marketing out to be some kind of impossible task... or something you have to go to college for and have a Master's Degree to be able to do...

That is NOT the case. All it takes is time for you to go out here and learn ONE technique at a time, because trying to learn everything at once will overwhelm you. Once you have ONE thing down, put it to test and see what results it brings you.

If it does not work, hit the drawing board again. Not one marketer is perfect, and the MARKETING arena is a constant learning curve. You will NEVER know everything about marketing because the internet changes daily.

So my marketing tip is simple: LEARN & IMPLEMENT.

Get your most important keywords and keyword phrase in your Title tag. It sounds simple, but very few people do a good job of this. Also, make sure your domain name is not in your Title tag.

    Here's My Tip:

people turn to the Internet for one reason. that reason is to solve a problem! So solve a problem and there is your money maker.

This works every time. Think about the people who make money. Think about the people who sell things. What do they all have in common? They have all solved a problem.

what that would be as there are so many things important to marketing.

Now that I think of it, maybe this IS the best marketing tip of all time.

sometimes, especially in IM it can be a long road which consists of trial and errors.
(See any "failure" as a good thing: Because you learned something!)

Observe which things don't work..and which do.

And then focus on the ones where you see results.

For me this applies to many things: Making 100s of websites - some will never make any ROI...some totally unexpectedly just "work" with traffic and google rankings.
Same with PPC campaigns: Trial and error. Some just fail, some work.
Same with WSOs: Some flop, some work.

Take each of those experiences, examine why some methods "failed" and why others work. And then expand on the ones which work.

This might have been said before, but here goes...

My advice would be to always look at things from the other persons perspective and 'step into their shoes.' So if you're selling something then that would be your potential customers, or if you're trying to get JVs then that would be your potential JV partners, etc.

It sounds obvious, and it is, BUT most people don't put it into action. People email potential JV partners and say 'please promote my product' but of course they probably had 100 other requests that day too - why should they look at yours? But by putting yourself in the other marketers shoes you can make the offer a 'no brainer' by doing something for them that is more valuable to them than your JV and then saying 'if I do that for you, will you promote my product?' That's probably a bit of a rambley way of saying it, but hopefully you get my point .

...Make something a 'no brainer' for the other party and it makes it almost impossible for them to refuse your offer, but you can only do this by stepping into their shoes. What do they want? What REALLY motivates them?

Lots of great advice in this thread.

      Cheers

      Dan

Here's my tip (tried and true) - always test, test, and test. never be satisfied with what you are getting. not only do you improve your results, you beat the crap out of the competition (and maybe even take them out of business)!

    How about this...
Just put your thoughts and ideas into action!! Don't sit and wonder if something is going to work or not. You'll never know till you try it! Just put it out there, and the rest will fall into place if you just keep going and never quit!! Think of each failure as stepping stones to get you to where you want to go.
    To Success

Not sure if there is a "Best Internet Marketing Tip of All Time" since the Internet changes constantly and there are what seems like a new set of rules every couple of years.

    Well here goes:

Provide content as if you were the person on the other end of the screen. Take into account the user experience and what their goals are by coming to your page. Then construct the page to satisfy those goals with a clear call to action and a headline and graphics that immediately give the end user a value proposition. And oh yes, never place a link on your site that doesn't make you money somehow, it is really hard to lose money when all your links point to it.

The goal is to get someone when they are "leaning in" (as opposed to sitting back and watching videos for enjoyment), this is when they are interested and will take the time to research what you are putting in front of them. Give them something relevant and you can herd them where you like.

(As a CPA Network, we see so much crap come in the door, affiliates with nothing more than banners and links on their sites with no more relevance to the user's wants and needs than a piece of gum on the sidewalk. If you are going to put up a website, make sure that you put up something that has relevance to a group of people with a common interest and then help them get what they want. Hopefully a large group with money )

And if you were to ask me what is the secret sauce for PPC (I know no one did, but I couldn't resist because this is something that has paid off in the millions for me):
Make sure that the Headline in your Ad is the first thing they see when they come to your page. And remember, if your "display URL" says www.tomsgreatwebsite.com and you are selling Biz Opp, you probably will get very little in the way of conversions. Always use a good "halo" URL that once again enforces that you are the one who has what they want.

You need a strategy for buying a great domain name, I personally like the Google AdWords External Keyword Tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal) as you can see the volume of searches for popular terms and then go after the best term for your niche. For example: if you sell Biz Opp you may want to buy a domain that has the popular search term "work from home" in it (1.83 Million searches every month). Thus you would want to buy workfromhomenotebook.com (it is available) and make it a blog type site that "journals" your experiences with work at home offers (in essence a guide or comparison site disguised as a blog that gives good information to those seeking work from home jobs.)

So not only did I not stick to just 1 tip, I actually gave away a live domain name no one picked up.

I am not a very active warrior so I try to add value when I post. There is a video on my site, Jim Lillig: Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing Reviews News and Views of Performance Marketing Online : that explains more in detail about comparison sites.

    I hope this helps.

      Develop RELATIONSHIPS.

      Relationships are everything.

Create strong bonds with your subscribers (video blogs, 100% transparency)

Create great relationships with potential JV partners (attend live events, make PHONE calls - not just email)

      Cool thread!

This can be true for all types of niches.

Be resourceful. Search for as many free tools and tips as possible. Find a mentor and build a relationship with them. Ask many questions. Have a timer, maybe 50 minutes on 10 minutes off. Unsubcribe to all those emails you don't read anyways. Look at what needs to be done in small segments. Say ok I am going to work on this for 20 minutes, after that repeat another 20 minutes. Don't look at the whole picture at once, it is too over whelming. Try to help others where you can. It will come back to you.
