Okay, SEO - Someone Tell Me What To Do And Be Firm

If I start a new site with an aim to create one new page of high quality content each day, what should I do for each of those pages to get them ranking well in the search engines?

Write an article with a link pointing back ot it?
Social bookmark it?

I need some sort of plan to follow. I'd like to know exactly what to do (nothing on-page, just off-page seo) to give it the best chance of ranking well, and the entire site growing into something solid.

My advice is to find good keywords first and write content based on them.

As for offsite SEO, it's all about getting one-way keyword anchored backlinks. Reciprocal won't hurt, but one-way is king.

So using articles, social bookmarking, and do-follow commenting is your best bet. As for how much you need all depends on your competition. If you want the #1 spot for your keyword you simply need to out-link the site that's there now. This is why researching the keywords and the competition first will save you plenty of frustration and let you know how much work it will take to get to #1.

Yes I agree. Actually having multiple pages can be good and bad. The good thing is your content can promote your website in google. Content is KING for google.

The bad thing is you can have difficulty having all pages ranking high in google- needs time.

Would it be a good pproach to find say 20 good keyword phrases, create a page for each keyword phrase, optimise them on-page, and then start getting back links to them via bookmarks and articles etc? And then perhpas move onto the next 20 keywords?

This sounds easy, but very true!

To get business, you need traffic, and to get traffic you need good keywords with decent search but low competition.

When I say good, I mean:

Any keywords with quotes, but under 10,000 results - low competition, you can easily rank on PR 6 website with just bookmarking back links.

You also need to check for allinanchor, allinurl, allintitle for reference, if any of this shows too competitive, the previous guidelines of 10,000 results may not be useful.

The easiest way is using Micro Niche Finder, it will shows you the competitiveness of the keywords.

After you found 20 ~ 30 high search low competition keywords, you prepare 1 article for each keyword, and do proper on page optimization.

Put 1 article on your site everyday for the first week if your site is new, then 2 articles everyday the second week; 3 ~ 5 articles everyday the 3rd week and onwards.

Or if your focus is on traffic and sales, you can do this faster with the help of various web 2.0 sites, put 2~3 articles on the following sites, anytime:

      1. Ezinearticles
      2. Squidoo
      3. Hubpages
      4. Tumblr
      5. Wikidot
      6. Wetpaint
      7. Weebly
      8. Quizilla
      9. wikispaces
      10. webs.com

and any high PR social media.

This way, you can get all your articles up in 1 day, and start building more aggressive back links.

BTW, many people say that too aggressive back links will hurt your ranking, m...not true.

Think about it, if this is true, I can disable many websites! I just do aggressive back links to any of the site I hate, they will be ban by Google...! That's is cool but not possible, and Google know it.

Why you need to build your links slowly is because some similar content and same site incoming links may be discounted by Google.

What going to hurt your site is too many content live in the shortest period, especially the first 3 months of a new site.

Ok, using social media to get traffic is very, very fast! But you need to have time and resources to build back links to those sites, at the same time!

    Hey Alex,

I think you will get so many different replies in this thread that you will be back where you started, without knowing what to do. So pick ONE and stick to it.

With that being said, here is my suggestion:

Yes, you can start by grabbing 20 keyword phrases that have high searches per day, but unless you want to work really hard to obtain the rankings, this is what you must do.

    Keyword Research

    1. The competition of each keyword phrase must be below 100,000 competing sites, you can figure this out by simply doing a search on Google for the keyword within quotes.

    2. Even more importantly, you have to check the strength of the competition. The strength is based on several different factors.

But a good point to start is by checking how many incoming links the pages ranking page 1 in Google for the respective keywords have.

Use Yahoo Site Explorer for this purpose. Go for ones with below 30.

After that you will have 20 great keywords, it's time to rank for them.

    Keyword Ranking

    1. Optimize each page around the respective keyword phrase. With a spread keyword density of 1%-2%.

It must go in the title of the page (by this I mean in the <title> tag), in the URL if possible, in the <h1> header, in the first paragraph, as a meta keyword tag and within the meta description tag.

Like I said, 1%-2% keyword density at most, don't stuff.

The longer the content the better, so go for 500+ word articles.

That will take care of the on page SEO.

    2. Now you need to start backlinking to each page individually, ideally with anchor text for the keyword you want to rank for. But keep in mind that the more authority the page you are linking from has, the more powerful the backlink is.

A good way to measure the authority of a backlink is by checking the PageRank. You would think getting high PR backlinks is hard, well it's not. Contact Angela V. Edwards here, she can provide you with authority backlinks.

I would say that 30 authority backlinks per page will rank you for the respective keyword phrases considering the criteria I set above, but you must continue to do them as time goes through if you want to maintain the rankings.

Note 1: Social bookmarks are not that good anymore for some reason in terms of backlinks, unless it's an authority one and there are not many of those.

Note 2: Same case for article backlinks, not so good unless they have authority (such as EZA).

Note 3: The backlinks MUST be dofollow, or in other words, they cannot have the "nofollow" attribute.

That should do the trick for you.

    Best of luck,

    - Dan
