Social Interaction Affects Page Rank

Okay, so I may have been in cryo sleep, frozen in time, living under a rock for a while, but is this true?

The likes, shares and comments you have on a particular post affects your PR?
I just want to confirm this and I don't particularly mind if a whole flock of SEO gurus start to chomp at me and take a dump at my windshield for asking such a noob question.

Can anyone get into further detail about this?

Thanks in advance.

Its so obvious that Social interaction will be of great help, but if your website link will get more and more likes and doing SMM to make reputation of your business will always be a good idea.

  • Yeah but does it specifically affect Page Rank? I'm asking more strictly as an SEO perspective. Yes I know it's good to have a lot of social interaction, but does PR factor this in at all?

Yes it can. Especially when you can get more share of your post together with your URL.
Social media is a big help.

Social signals (usually) do not effect Page Rank. Many sites (Facebook, YouTube, etc.) make all of their links no-follow, so you won't get any page rank from them.

However, social signals certainly do effect your rankings in the search engines.

The harder I work, the luckier I get.

I do know that all twitter backlinks are nofollow but if your post is re-tweeted 3 times, it becomes dofollow. That means that the post must be newsworthy and Google plans on showing some love for that link. So in a sense, yes. But I wouldn't say 50,000 fans on Facebook guarantees a pae rank of 6 for your domain. It's all about backlinks and social media backlinks are almost all nofollow.

So far in my experience it didn't have any effect on page rank.
