Do IMers have an unrealistic dream of running a business with no money?

I've been a long timer reader here and time and again I see threads where people ask for making money advice after saying they don't have any money in their hands.

Offline, I'm yet to see a business where you can put in nothing and get past the idea stage.

I would think a domain and a website is the least you need for your online business.

Of course, you can start making some money by offering services, or by promoting affiliate products using free traffic methods or something, but ultimately, isn't it unrealistic to think that a business can run without money?

It is realistic.fiverr for example.. There are hundreds to thousands of new people discovering warriorforum everyday and most of them have similar questions so we can't really avoid such questions...

  • I think when people say they don't have money, they don't literally mean they don't have any money. They mean they don't have much money to allocate to an online business.

All business requires at least some minimal level of capital.

You can certainly do a lot of things to reduce the amount of capital required... sweat equity of working with no pay to minimize labor costs of hiring others, barter, etc...

But business is about capital. Period. You cannot be in business and not be a capitalist. That's what a business does, move capital, create profit.

I think money is a basic things to run a business, but with enough skill and knowledge the business cost could be reduced .. even without money you can setup business with a partner who have money but don't have enough skill and knowledge like you

This all comes down to psychology 101.

People want to conserve energy, resources, time, etc.

Taken to extremes, this natural desire to save energy and resources leads to "pie in the sky" fantasies about running a business with next to no money and just a few hours of work a week.

It's annoying, yes, but it's so basic that it's not really even worth worrying about.

It's the same as the people who are always looking for the magic diet, the magic cure for their failing marriage etc.

It's been with us since the beginning of time, and will be with us until the end.

The bare minimum is probably a domain name and hosting. The total expenses for each month is less than $5. This is possible.

And the answer is its possible but very highly unlikely

Which IS strange, because any business requires capital - either in cash or in sweat equity.

That, I agree with. Which is why I used the word 'unrealistic' to begin with.

The chances of running a business with no capital at all are so slim, you can almost say there's no chance. Unless you plan to do everything from blog setup to SEO yourself - which I think is an inefficient way of doing things.
