3 Things You Need To Be a Successful Internet Entrepreneur

1. Understanding

Most Internet Entrepreneurs understand the internet economy better that "normal people" but in order

to be successful at it, you need to understand it better than your competitors. There are people in the

online community who are quietly making bank without without proclaiming it from the rooftops. To

be the best you have to do your homework, research the latest trends, know which trends can last a

long time and which is going to stick. You need to understand the behaviour of the online economy

and adjust your strategy accordingly.

2. Project Management Skills

Most successful internet entrepreneurs are passionate about what they do. But being passionate is not enough. Without the skills to co-ordinate, organise and roll out projects, you are bound for mediocrity. If you can understand the power of project management and outsourcing effectively then managing your internet business is guaranteed to be a much easier affair.

3. Focus

In Warren Buffett's biography, "The Snowball", a situation occured where he and Bill Gates were asked what the one thing was that they felt made a person successful. That one thing was focus. To me personally, being focused means not getting distracted by the "No's" and "shiny things" around me.

If anyone has any thing to add. Please feel free.

My 3 favorite ones are: test. test. Test everything.

Even when things are working out - keep testing.

For me this is one of the most important attributes. It's all about doing things consistently well every day. You must achieve the same high standard on bad days that you do when you feel on top of the world.

patience, patience, and more patience. I thought I would quit so many times in the beginning when I wasn't making anything. I did test and then test some more and soon found out where my problems where and got them fixed. The rest is history. Great post.

To be successful, you need to TAKE ACTION on a CONSISTENT basis.

After that, it's all about trial and error.

The more times you fail, the better chance you give yourself of being successful.

Of course you'll need to have an intuitive and creative mind.
You must always be open to innovation and also be innovative yourself.

But greatest factor of all for me is perseverance. Most people will not be successful the first handful of tries but with the right combination of common sense, innovation, intuition and perseverance you'll eventually get there.

      Hi. Great ideas, everyone!

To me the biggest thing you need to be a successful internet entrepreneur is "passion."

Passion helps to guide you when you start to lose focus or when you run into bumps along the way.

Passion keeps you consistent because you are pursuing something you know is the right thing to do.

Passion drives you to sacrifice and to persevere and to take action because you are doing something you love.

Without passion you might still be able to make money -- if that is ultimately your definition of success.

However, for me I think having passion in what you are doing is still the goal we all want to achieve.

      Hi Rob,

      Thank you for mentioning belief.

I almost went with belief, as nothing happens without it. It's the most important aspect of success of any kind.

      All the best,

Bull Dog Tenacity is a must, I believe.

When a Bull Dog clamps onto a bone, nothing or no one can get him to let go!

It is that type of tenacity you need to succeed. Grab on to your dream and work it to the bone, don't give up, don't let go and don't let anyone steal it from you.

Okay, I have read through this thread, and need to inject some reality into the discussion.

It would be great if you only needed 3 things to be a successful IMer, but all of the responses show you need many more than 3. All of the answers are valid, and all of the things are needed; therefore, it makes sense that a person would need ALL of them.

The good news is that everybody already has some of the traits already mentioned. I would suggest using your strengths as much as possible, and then filling in the gaps through a combination of self-improvement and outsourcing.

    All the best,
    Michael
