    Hi,

You can get good writers from elance.

The price range is about US$5 for an article with 500 - 800 words.

But you can always negotiate with the writer to get a reasonable price.

And this is why there are so few good writers selling their services online. Who would turn out good articles for these prices? McDonalds pays better.

No, a $5 article will generally not get you the required quality. Which native English speakers are going to be happy to work half an hour minimum on your article for $5? You don't ask your graphic designer to work for peanuts and you don't ask your web developer to work for beer money, so why ask your content writer when the words on your page are so important?

No, for actual quality, you need to pay someone what they are worth - like everything else. For that extra quality you will see results far in excess of what you are getting from a $5 article. There's nothing worse than having your website filled up with spelling and grammar mistakes.

      Hi,

Haha.. Ok.. since you are a content creator, it is obvious that you will not agree about US$5 for an article. But indeed, you can really get a good writer for US$5 an article.

Believe it or not? it is up to you

You may be able to get one. By luck more than anything. I have yet to find more than 1 in 100 $5 articles which actually give what they're supposed to.

Are they grammatically correct? Does their word choice fit the intended reader? Do they flow naturally? Do they get all their points in without thinking about a word limit? Do they make people want to share?

If you do not think about any of these when writing you're not going to create something worthy of the name. What do you expect from this $5 article? What do you intend to gain from this spent money?

From what I can see the rate for an average 500 word article from an average writer is around $5. Experienced and excellent writers are successfully charging $15 to $25 for 500 words.

But ever since the last 5 years or so, it's been $5 for the average writer. I couldn't see a major change in that rates.

It's not. It's $5 for a below average writer. If you think that is average...

Look at some of the excellent writers on here (I wish I could be part of their group, not there yet ) and look what they charge. Excellent writers are charging $200-$1000 per piece, which is 750-1000 words. But the people who ask them to work know they get quality and they know that it is going to be read and read by lots of people.

A $5 article is, at best, not going to harm your business.

This might be true but only because the entry requirements for entering the content writing service is so low. All you need is a computer and an Internet connection.

Anyone looking for a content writer ask yourself this: Am I happy using "average content" for my business? Because of you are looking to hire the "average" writer for $5 then that's all you are likely to get.

If you are looking for some good articles you can find writers for $15-30 per article. If you want cheap articles you can find them for $5 but don't expect too much out of them. Of course, there are also writers that charge much more than $30 per article. (These prices are for 500 words.)

It is all about what you want from this article and what kind of quality you are looking for. I would suggest looking around Warriors for Hire or the signatures of members on the forum.

I am an experienced native English speaking writer and have sold articles on constant-content.com for $20.
Articles writers there have to submit articles for rigorous editing before the articles will be accepted on the site.
Good quality articles there and reasonable prices - you can buy 'for use' which means more than one copy can be sold or you can, for little more, have exclusive ownership of an article.

You would have to be very lucky to get quality articles for $5 each on fiver or any similar site.

You can get articles for $5 or less if you just want to bury a bunch of backlinks inside of text, but they won't be articles that anyone actually bothers to read.

But if it's indeed just SEO fodder you're looking for, yes, you can pay $5.

On the other hand, my clients have rarely ever complained about anything I've sent to them. On the off chance I do get a complaint or even a revision request, it's more to change the tone of the article than anything about the quality of it.

Threads like this one and service providers like I anonymously mentioned above are why I'm going directly after offline businesses and beginning to distance myself from the WF in the future. If people seriously think that they can spend $5 and get any kind of quality at all, and then they're happy with garbage like I've quoted in this post, there's no point in being here and trying to offer up quality work.

I'd rather go after a business who understands the value of the written word and what it can provide for them.

I think it's going for about $5 to $10 per 500 word article nowadays. That, however, still depends on the quality of work and the caliber of the writer. Also, some employers tend to lowball and some writers tend to over charge.

If you come to think of it, the pricing really just depends on how well negotiations went.

$5 for 500 words is for a very below average writer. I pay my writers much more than this but they are high quality writers. I guess it depends on what type of writing you want. You will pay more for the better writers (and it is much worth it)

Are you talking about per 100 words here? As if not then read what people post before hand. You can get a good quality full article for $5. It is possible. You're going to have to spend $5,000 to actually find one, though.

No native English speaker who actually has a grasp of grammar and tone is going to sell a full size piece for $5, it's like spending an hour to be able to buy a beer, or even less after fees and taxes. It's ridiculous how anyone can think this, you don't pay your web developer $5/hour.

    Hi Shuaishuai,

If you're a solo writer, $5.00 per 500-word article isn't advisable. A company like us (small company) can afford that price because of the volume of orders we regularly receive from our clients. We're talking about thousands of articles every quarter of the year.

A good native English solo writer should be charging $0.05 per word as the bare minimum.

$25 still seems like a lot to pay for a 500 word article. Are there people out there who are actually willing to pay that much for quality content?

  • Depending on the type of writing you are looking for, you can find writers any level. If you want good quality unique content that you own the rights to, you are looking at least $10 and up per article. If you are looking for articles that may have some grammatical errors and are from non-native English speaking writers, you can find this all day long for free on article directories. There is a wide range of quality that one can find with website content. I guess, knowing more about what your goal is will define what will work best for you.

  • It's very difficult to find excellent writers in these days. A lot are more into getting on your money than returning good quality writings.

Some people have to pay more to get quality writers but it's all upon chance. Check out Odesk and Elance. And get a sample article of your own choice before hiring someone. If they are really good and they are willing to get the job, 1 article from a great writer is not such a big deal.

5$ would always be enough but if the writer is a pro, meet half way on the price. Again, test first before hiring. Too many promise great deals but give you depressing ones.

(Maybe you can check published articles they have written for more credibility)

      Sigh.

No, $5 would never be enough.

I have a special deal going at the moment but even with that on, there is no way I'm writing for less than $3.50/100 words. That's the absolute minimum I get to and even then, I haven't got there No, you need time to actually research your work, edit your work and you need to be able to think about your clients tone, audience and the word choice, overall subject matter, etc.

Just getting an article on healthy eating and writing: "You should all look for ways to engage in healthy eating..." is awful. That's bad content. You need to know who your client is looking to attract and write for them.

  • From my experience, a native speaker with experience would charge $3 - $5 / 100 words.

The prices some guys are describing (@ $1 / 100 words) are usually from freelancers in India etc.

$1 to $5 articles are often PLR articles that have been passed around all over the internet. They are not unique. They are not targeted to YOUR needs.

Some freelance writers charging those prices actually take such articles and make a few changes to make them somewhat 'unique'. It doesn't take any time at all to do that. Some use article spinners which basically replace certain words. This often produces articles that make no sense. If the "writers" actually knew grammar and English, they would know that such articles are garbage.

I've heard of freelance writers who write on a topic for several clients and sell the same or slightly modified versions to all of them.

If you're hiring a freelance writer, regardless of the price, be sure to run it through Copyscape or some other copyright program. They compare the article with similar ones on the internet to see if it's plagiarized / stolen. You would be in trouble if you used such copy on your site. Some companies are diligent in spotting stolen articles being posted online and will quickly tell you to take them down.

If you try to submit them to some directories, they will do that copy check and find out it's copyright protected by someone else and reject it.

So there's a lot to consider when looking for a freelance writer. Consider, too, that there's more involved than just rattling off 500 words and collecting the cash. Articles I've done usually include at least some degree of research to make them unique. Even articles I've been asked to rewrite involve additional research. Depending on how much, one 500 word article can take an hour. Who works for $5 an hour? Certainly not me. And certainly not for $10 an hour, if I can get 2 done in 30 minutes.

About.com pays what amounts to $40-50 per article (for guides and topic writers)
    Demand Studios? $25-350 per piece
WriterAccess (Level 5) you can negotaite as needed, I generally charge $100 per piece there (though I only get $70 of that)
    Elance YMMV
Magazines --I write crafty decor stuff, $375-700 is average, but I also get compensated by the paint/paper/glue company if I mention their products, another $75-350 per article.
    Entepreneur.com pays $100 per article
    Inc pays the same
The gold mine? Private clients and non profits

The figures here are not insane at all, IMO.

Think about this-- that $5.00 per page writer (that's hopefully $5.00 per page, it sounds like this poor guy is going to have to fight to get to the $5.00 level at some places)-- is he going for quantity or quality? Is he going to focus on research, on word use, on grammar, on quality and on making your article the best it can be, or is he going to churn it and burn it out as fast as he can, so he can get to the next...and the next....and the next....

Use oDesk or elance for writers. you can find good writers anywhere around $2-$10 for 500 words. Make sure you hire someone with good experience. check their profiles and feedback score.

To do $5 posts and make a liveable wage, you would have to do 3 in an hour to make $15 an hour. Even if you typed 50 wpm as you were composing--a major accomplishment, that'd be 10 min used up. If you are to do 3 posts in an hour, you have used 10 of your available 20 minutes and you have 10 min left for italicizing, underlining, links, and editting. Guess what gets left out....editting!!!

If you are trying to get a SE ranking and visitors to your site, editting is key; you cannot afford errors in your blog.

The only other people who would produce $5 posts are those who would work for $5 an hour. There are very few people who talk and write at all like me that would do that.

With content writing, you get what you pay for. You can get articles for less than $5, but chances are they won't do much for your website. I charge $10 an article, but I know many who charge much more than that.

You can find good writers on elance, odesk, or even on this forum.

The ever-lasting fight between supply (writers) and demand (buyers) is also living here in the writing business. Additionally spiced with completely different perspectives of these two.

But this fight does not help answer the question "Where can I find good content writers?". Also, the question is not revealing what is "good content writer" - is it good because it's cheap, or fast, or provides good content regardless of the price or turnaround time, ...

So without further ado, I would recommend 2 services that I've had good experiences in using them:
Fweez - Article Marketing / SEO Content / Web Content Writing / Keyword Research
    99centarticles.com

They were good for me in terms of quality, price and TAT - and for the purpose I have hired them (I didn't need scientific dissertation, though ).

It depends on how you define "good." Too many people define "good" as "cheap." As mentioned by the rant above this might come back to haunt you if CHEAP is your only criteria.

You should look for content that is both AFFORDABLE and offers GOOD VALUE to your site's readers. What's good value? At a minimum, the content should be:

    1) well-researched
    2) engaging
    3) 100% original - it must be copyscape-compliant
    4) cohesive

That's just the minimum. Your particular niche might require further additional elements.

What people seem to forget is that the writing part is the easy bit for most writers.

It's the research that takes the time if the writer is asked for an article on a subject he is not familiar with.

Anyone who charges $5 per 500 words is working for peanuts - and you know what you get if you pay peanuts...

The answer to your question must always start with the question: what will you be using the content for? This will determine the quality you'll need, and thus the average price you'll have to pay!

When we first started we actually wrote up over 5K articles (I know...sounds crazy). But eventually built a team and now offer a service for people looking for content.

All I can tell you is if you use Elance or any other service you may have to expect to receive some errors and you may have to work with them to adjust to your overall style.

Price ranges will differ depending on the person and how bad they "need" some cash. Just take your time.

Also the warrior for hire section is pretty good, I have a service myself you can see it in my sig. Hopefully you find it useful!

You need to get high quality articles these days, look for people who specialize in the field you are promoting.

A good original 500 word article may cost between $10 to $80 depending on the author.

$5 is absolute peanuts, what type of person is going to write a high quality article for that price?
