Virtual Real Estate (VRE) - do Exact Match Domains still work?

After looking into ever department of Internet Marketing I couldnt find anything more sustainable as a means of income than VRE. My idea is to use exaxt match domains and just 3-5 articles and let them rank with alot of SEO work.

I have been put of this many time in the past 2 months, by people making such statements as "exact match domains are spam to Google now", "you need to put alot more SEO work to rank EMD's nowadays", and "EMD's are so 2008".

I would like to hear from people who started building their VRE after 2010/2011. Have you had any success?. Are you websites ranking well(i.e. first page)?

EMD's still work fine - you may not get the boost you once got but there is never going to be a "penalty" for exact match domains - think of all the individual businesses and names that have "exact match domains".

With that being said it's best to find "brandable" style - short, punchy and somethign that doesn't look quite so spammy as - HowToFindTheBestWhatever.com - I think searchers are getting more wise to those really long-tail EMD's that are obviously just designed to rank for that keyword

But think of an EMD like GuitarLessons.com - not spammy sounding/looking and obviously a site for guitar lessons - easy for people to remember, AND good search volume - that's what you want to find!

RemoteControlHelicopterReviews.(com/net) - Up for sale! No reasonable offer refused. Great branding for a super hot niche!

emd's in general can only help. The question is what are the keywords used in the domain name. My first websites were all emd's. I still have several of them. The ones that I have kept are the types of keyords that are more generic (ie are more of a category Bestwidgets.com ) and can be expanded out to a larger site easily.

EMD still work, and with the same content they would rank much better than some random brandable domain without keyword in its name

Of course, EMD works but it should be less competitive, and content is always king in SEO.

EMD's still work, but it's just the beginning. I have some real estate websites and you need to add content consistently to keep on top of the rankings.

Also it helps to have a database of listings so you can capture emails.

Despite the false "fear" that some try to peddle, EMDs are still working great.
