Help With Camtasia 6.0

Hey folks,

I have Camtasia 6 and I'm wanting to record a video; however, the issue I'm running into is when I load up "Camtasia Recorder" and attempt to turn on my web cam, I encounter the following error:

Unable to display the camera preview. The camera may be in use by another application.

However, if I load up "Camtasia Studio" and then use the option to record via webcam, then the cam works but I can't record anything on my screen.

I've tried submitting this issue to TechSmith support but haven't heard anything in over 3 days.

I'm hoping that someone here who has this particular version may know how to resolve this issue, as I'm not that technically inclined to first record the screen capture portion, come back and record the webcam and then mix the two together into a single file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

Sounds like your video drivers are being used by another app running in the background?? Any webcam software running in the tray?

I could be something like yahoo messenger running in the background with the cam active.

I don't have Yahoo installed, nor even Windows Live Messenger...Funny thing is I can minimize Camtasia, bring up the GUI for my web cam and it works...!

      Strange thing I tell you.

However, I'm beginning to think that it's not possible, as I came across a 'how to video' on the Camtasia web site and it looks like you have to first record the 'screen' portion of the video, then come back and do the webcam video later and mix them together as a 'picture in picture' video..

Oh well, really wish you could just do both at the same time....

      Thanks for the replies folks!

It can be done, there is no need to mix two videos, in fact for picture in picture all you need to do is set up camera on the recording panel:

1st click on record screen, a sub menu sort of box should open, now this is for camtasia 6 , I don't know about other versions..

This panel has two main areas, one for selecting the area, and another for settings, in the settings panel there should be two icons, camera and audio.

Now the tricky part is to switch it on, yes its a switch, just click on it then it'll expand with a preview of your webcam in real time, if it doesn't, try clicking the down arrow pointer on its side and select your webcam for its options..

(By default it should be selected )

Now if everything works press record and that should do it..

And if it doesn't close all the applications that involve your webcam and try again, although i never had a problem running it side by side with skype or AIM

        Hope this helps

          Hi Guys,
I am having the same problem. I can record the camera within Camtasia but not the screen. (same error meassage) I checked that nothing else was using the camera and there were no startup camera programs running in the background..

Techsmith are not forthcoming with an answer, they just asked all the usual questions about something else using the camera... but I even checked in task manager and there's NOTHING using the camera..
          I'm using a logitech pro 200

Anybody else know anything that could help?
