Can you get in trouble for pointing links to another site and/or 301'ing a site

Hi,

I'm conducting an SEO experiment for my blog, my question is this:

The experiment will involved getting my site penalized hard in Google, I will then 301 it to a more stable large site like a page on about or an amazon category/product.

What I want to know is if my experiment actually works and the penalty is passed onto the other site and the page gets penalized, can I get in trouble? i.e. can I sued for damages or something? Especially if I blog about it and they know it was me lol.

Thanks

Ricky

  • I'll most likely do it to Matt Cutt's blog
  • At the moment I dont think there is anything that will get you in trouble for that.

    BUT

If you pick a big site like Amazon your not even going to make a dent, I think it will take an awful lot more than that to cause any chaos.

Pointing it at a lesser known/trusted site though could prove interesting.
