Niche Marketing dead?

Hi,

You can approch it many ways...

Trying to rank websites on page one of Google can be time consuming and sometime with very little reward...

I wouldn't advice you to try to earn a living following this business model only!

In my opinion the best way to succeed in niche marketing is to build a list, provide value and you'll be better off than you're now...

Thanks for replying. Well I have tried that as well. But as you know without any traffic to start with getting subscribers is almost impossible. And even if you do manage to get some of them people who will actually buy something acting upon email or less than 1%. Not very easy field to navigate this list building.

It's true, no traffic no conversion...

However, there are many ways to drive traffic to a website.

If you're on budget, you can start by:

- Commenting on other people's niche related blog posts (provide value!);

- Do videos about your product/services and post them on Youtube with a link pointing to your website;

- Write articles an post them on article directories (get them bookmarked).

- Write content and add them so document sharing sites (with links to your website)

- and so on...

Building a list to market your product/services is highly recommended...

MNS (MicroNicheSites) can and will make you money either through affiliate sales or advertising, but you're not going to get a whole lot of traffic like an authority site.... so build and rank lots of them, and even more importantly, make sure each conversion makes you a decent amount of money, and the Adsense EPC is .75 or higher, otherwise you're just wasting your timem

Ahmar.

Build an "authority-type"niche site that targets low competition products. You will get to spend most of your time creating content since backlinking becomes much less important when you are dealing with products that nobody else is promoting.

I have pages sitting on page one of Google since April of last year and I've never one a lick of backlinking outside of the initial social bookmarking.

Niche sites are not dead. Do them right and you can still do very well.

Woah, you're putting the cart in front of the horse here. You're only focusing on ONE aspect of obtaining traffic and you've only tried one specific subset of that one aspect. Niche Marketing is far from dead. It's been around for hundreds of years and it'll be around for at least another few thousand.

Do you do any blogging? Do you actively search out content partners? Is your website newsworthy at all? (Most are, btw). Have you looked into using press releases?

You should also focus on other distribution channels. This is how people grow their businesses, they don't get all their traffic from one source, nor do they only do it with one or two techniques.

What's your budget like? Paid advertising is one of the fastest ways to grow your business, though you have to know what you're doing (tracking, altering conversions, etc.) and be willing to possibly lose money before finding a winning campaign (very seldom do people share their money-making ad campaigns).

Niche marketing goes well beyond the Internet. When you watch a financial show on Fox News or CNN, the sponsors are financial services companies. That is niche marketing. It will never die.

The question at hand should be how to convert people, once you get them to your sites and as others have mentioned, getting them into your funnel via squeeze page is essential.

I say that you're trying methods that have no basis in reality if that's the result you've gotten. The bulk of what I do on a personal level has been with mini niche sites and they're still rocking strong as ever. I build them with only 2 posts and rarely ever add more content to them (unless I see a really strong performer, then I'll develop it into an authority site). It takes me maybe 20-30 minutes to build on and then I spend a few minutes a day performing SEO-related tasks until it hits #1. After that, I just monitor it every week or two to make sure it stays where I left it.

If you disagree put something constructive so that other members (new to IM like me) can get something useful from your experience. Posts like this are just pure BS and contribute nothing to this forum.

If you can't put something constructive or an argument don't just post on the thread to make fun of others.

All of these are WAR ROOM MEMBERS. This gives me a good sneak peek on the inner world of war room and how they will treat a newbie there. I won't buy ever

It wasn't my intention to be arrogant or to hurt your feelings. Maybe if you'd been around here longer you'd realize there are almost literally one of these, Is________dead? posts every other day. Sometimes they're started seriously and sometimes they're started by trolls looking to stir things up. Every company I mentioned in my arrogant post has been named in these silly threads that never seem to stop. It's often hard to tell if the poster is serious.

As for my opinion on niche marketing, I doubt you'd care to hear it. You mentioned that you ranked well with SEO but it didn't last. You hit upon the real problem without realizing it. It's SEO. SEO is all but dead. At least the way the SEO game has been played up until a few years ago.

As for adding value to this forum, I've added plenty. Some of that value is in pointing out that SEO, which for many people amounts to scraping, spinning and backlink spamming every blog on the planet, is dead. But people who do those things don't want to hear it. They want to believe the latest guru promising them overnight riches on autopilot is real and that I'm too clueless to realize that it's all about gaming the system. That's okay. These are the same people who come back here saying they've done everything the gurus suggested and still failed. Ugh.

I'm not saying you're one of those people but this forum is full of them. They wouldn't recognize good advice if it bit them in the ass. So, I don't waste my time trying to explain things like I once did. Maybe you'd do well to use the search feature for answers before posting a new thread as just about every question you could imagine has been answered hundreds, if not thousands of times. If you're new to the Warrior Forum - the first thing you'll learn is that there are a lot of one-liner (often smart ass) responses. These occur for a variety of reasons - people are bored or in a bad mood - they think your question is not serious - they want to get a laugh from their peers - or they're just trying to increase their number of posts (that happens a lot). So, just learn to scroll past those and focus on the people who really do provide good suggestions. For free advice from people who've done it all and tried it all, you really can't beat the Forum. Everyone isn't right - but you'll find a lot of things to get your own thoughts churning.

And you might even save yourself from spending a lot of time and money making big mistakes by learning from the mistakes of others.

So - be patient with the one-liners and sarcastic comments.

My opinions:

Example: I have 2 niche websites with eight to twelve posts. The older one of about a year is in several top searches for its keywords at this time. The other one is newer, in a more competitive niche, and getting some searches on longtail keywords from first page listings.

So smaller sites are still doing well. They just need good content and (some will disagree) a few good backlinks from various sources.

It is the nature of google to put your newish site to the top for a bit, then fold you back into the mix at a lower rank and let your site work it's way back up, IF google considers it to have the online and offline factors it is looking for.

It seems that about 5 to 6 months, new websites seem to settle in. It takes time for google to trust them any more.

Patience is a virtue in getting your site where you would like it. As many people said, diversify your marketing strategy from just relying on Google and you will get a lot farther faster.

Just because things change doesn't mean they cease to exist. It's alway been important to be able to adapt to changes. That is especially true on the Internet. You can't expect anything as anarchistic as the Internet to remain unchanged.

Niche marketing is not dead. Even if you just want to use basic SEO to get your niche site to the top. The key is not to go after the same keywords everybody else are gunning for.

I would agree its dead, and if its not yet. It is VERY close to being dead, i bet if you took a ton of time researching different markets you would find a few non-saturated ones. But still not worth your time.

of course its not dead its still a great way to get into IM and theres still some good money to be made

ive always said that niche marketing is a great way to "learn the trade" because you can get your hands dirty and figure out how things work online

however.... you should still be thinking about building something for the long term as appose to relying on SEO traffic (if thats where most of your traffic comes from)

building a list of customers and customers that love your stuff is the most profitable way to go and not to mention once you have a good list, you have traffic on tap too

Niche marketing isn't dead. I have a few niche blogs I set up October 2010 after I came back from Iraq. They are still kicking strong. In terms of an authoritative site, its just a bunch of mini niche sites stringed together guiding a visitor naturally through the sites topic offering suggesting and solutions.
Example: you have three tiers; tier1...homepage/index page (Jamaican Vacations) , tier2 navigation ( Jamaican beer, Jamaican beaches, Jamaican hotels, things to do in Jamaican, Jamaican jerk chicken...etc...), then tier 3 (low hanging fruit keywords like, what are the best beaches in Jamaica?, where are the safest clubs in Jamaica for tourist? etc....)
Basically your index home page is like you personal directory for your tier 2 mini niche websites.
Make sure you link your internal posts and related pages (post penguin and panda (PPP) SEO).
If you want to do any back linking you could but that on you.
Its just depends on your perspective and focus really.

Hang in there man..remember to keep the main thing the main thing and master the basics.

I think this just goes to show you why it's good to stick close to your passion. If you try to make it in a niche you're not really passionate about, it will be much more difficult to persist in maintaining your traffic and adding new content in the long term.

Niche websites can be built in an authority style. Instead of writing 5 articles, why don't you write some 50-100 articles? Post one per day, cover a range of topics and keywords in your niche, and make sure that your articles are of high quality. Eventually, Google will consider you an authority in that niche, and you'll get high rankings.

It takes a lot of time, but the final results will make it worth it. Short cuts don't work anymore, as we've seen from the recent updates.

I think if you find an untapped niche and they do and always will exist as new niches are created then like always you dominate that niche.

Search engines search for text on a site so if your site is the only site with that text string on it then its the one that will come up first in the results. Usually.
