Writers: How do you refill your creative gas tank?

I know some of you spend hours a day writing. How many articles/blog posts/etc can you get through before you just feel as though your creative gas tank is running on empty?

Anyone have any tips to making it last longer?

Take breaks. You can't sit for hours and keep pumping. For health reasons I can only work part time anyway but the principles are the same. If you feel tired, take a break. Go for a walk. watch tv, do something else until you feel refreshed and then ideas will come to you.

  • Whenever I feel that I am running out of creativity, I spend the very next day doing something irrelavant. What I suggest is:

    1) Spend the whole day away from your computer and tv

    2) Do something creative and nice at the same time like gardening, cooking, something that needs some effort and completely takes your mind off the computer/work/problems

    3) Go for a walk/ride somewhere with lots of "nature". Trees, river, mountain etc etc and most importantly FRESH AIR.

I find FRESH AIR to work tremendously good for me.

So my point is: Try something else to take your mind off writing and you will see that when you get back to writing, it will be a lot better.

I make a point of taking breaks as needed. I also make a major point of walking for at least an hour everyday and doing other things away from the computer. It's only too easy to burn yourself out if you don't take care of yourself right from the beginning. Then again, that's true of any situation.

Yea, I usually have to take a break or stop until the next day. But, I'd really like to be able to increase my output.

The problem I find is that, after a certain amount of content creation (emails, articles, blog posts, forum posts, etc) that my writing becomes extremely boring, dry, and short-worded.
