Free or paid which is better for list building

I have been reading that a fellow highly seasoned warrior does not believe in giving away a free report. Yet I see a great many of my fellow warriors who say give away a free report.

Which way is better. I must admit the the freebie tire kickers are not fun.

I always use a free course, videos series or product to build my lists and it works fine for me

However I know some people don`t like to give away free reports because they may feel that its not worth it. If they have tested this for themselves then thats cool

By only selling something on your pages you will be losing out on a lot of subscribers

Do what ever works for you. Its something you will have to test

I enjoy giving away free info because even if someone doesnt buy something i can still leverage the traffic to send to my blog which gives my blog more exposure and gets more eyeballs on my content and that means there is more of a chance of my content getting shared more

this is how i do things but everyone is different

Paul's absolutely right on this one as there are different opinions on this forum and outside of it on what's best. I think it really depends on what your main goal is. If it's more for what Paul's talking about then you really don't want to be potentially losing any extra traffic by making it an upfront paid offer.

However, if your main goal is to have people who really are prepared to spend some money and invest in themselves on whatever you're offering then I can see the value in going that way. Also some people don't like "freebie seekers" as they don't feel they provide them much value in the long run, although I havn't tested this enough to see whether there's enough to this.

Giving away a free report would work. Why not have a low-priced OTO so you can convert at least some percentage of free subscribers to buyers?

Or, you can create a high-quality ebook and sell it for very low price ($1-$3). This way, your offer is lucrative enough to get you a lot of subscribers and you know that your subscribers have no problem with taking out their credit cards. It's a win-win situation if you ask me.

I like free! I am not going to give you a penny when I can click back and get a free report from the other guy or girl. The free report my ad a bunch of freebie seekers to your list but to the common person looking for information this is a very nice gift from you. Not a marketing tactic. If you want to make money while list building.

Send them to an affiliate link or your own product on the thank you page. After they sign-up they are taken to your offer. I don't use any exit pop-ups or anything on this one ad they may find it to be a bit much and it will destroy the pleasant experience you created with your free offer.

  • giving away free reports is an awesome way to build your list - giving away videos of software is even better.... BUT I would rather have a list of 10 buyers than 500 freebie seekers.

a lot of it comes down how much value someone thinks that they will get

for instance, andre chapron has a differet kind of approach

he sends people to his 4 page squeeze page and then during this process he qualifies people

he then makes you pay him something like $10 per month just for being on his mailing list

he can do this because he has a good reputation for delivering quality information and a lot of value and also knows a hell of a lot about marketing

if a newbie tried building there list this way they would find it much harder

Giving away something for FREE is not compulsory but it all depends on what you want to do.

Over 10 years ago it was a lot easier for people to directly sell without having to build a list.

Now you have to nurture and develop a relationship with your list first and then see sales at the "Back End" of your sales funnel.

Again it depends on what you are selling also.

If you are selling physical products on Ebay that people need on a daily basis then this works perfectly as these people are glad to part with their money.

If you are in the "Make Money Online" niche then people want to see something of value from you on a consistent basis before they decide they want to buy your recommendations or even your own information products etc.

Hope this sheds more light onto your question!!!

In my own opinion and based on my personal experience, giving something for free is a form of marketing tool, which enable your customer to see if your product or services can satisfy their needs and wants since they will buy/pay your product and services.
