Offline advertisement for online biz. Your take?

I am reading this thread. tl;dr version is:
Guy created a website for driving lessons in London, wants to know how to drive traffic to it.

I've always been a fan of the idea of advertising offline since sometimes it can be almost free (flyers, cross promotion etc). Some of the ways includes networking and meeting new people which I find beneficial. One more thing is that if you are face to face, you can probably make a deal if you know the 101 of sales.

What's your take on offline ads, if you're targeting a specific audience which you are able to reach "on the streets"?

    Post cards, magazine ads, voice broadcasting, outsourcing telemarketing are all good forms of offline advertising. Work smarter not harder.
