Product reviews: Is it better to post them as a page or a post? What is your experience?

Hi Warriors,

I am writing some product reviews on my WordPress website. I wonder, what is better to write them as a post or as a page?

If I write them as posts I will be able to create a category "Product Reviews" and include the category on my navigation bar. When someone clicks on the nav bar, they will get a list of products with excerpts. So this way the visitor will have a quick overview of what is available.

If on the other hand I will write them as pages I can create a drop-down menu and the visitor can click just on the product he/she chooses. Also this way it will not clutter my posts that may be more of a general nature.

Can you please share your experience to help me choose the best way.

Thanks,

Dita

If your blog has posts then you have flexibilities to show related posts as plugin is available, you can also show recent posts in sidebar........ this way you can also show "most read" "least read"

these are helpful in optimization and getting traffic to your site as well.

For menu, I would say that use categories, it should be displayed on sidebar with sub-categories...

Let me know how it sounds!

      Hi Mary,

I understand that Mary, and I already have that implemented on my site.

So do you then write your product reviews as posts only?

      Thanks

I prefer using blogger. I'll create new blog for each product then write the review. The difficult thing is I must build backlinks to my blog one by one!

I think you are better off creating posts and having a static page as the home page. From the home page you can link to category pages, which each includes a list of products within that category.

      Hi Trevor,

Thanks for your response. The fact that a post can be included in categories and pages could not be, was leaning me towards writing the product reviews as posts. As I mentioned in my initial question, I was thinking of including a product reviews category on my nav bar and then have a comprehensive listing of reviewed products when someone clicks on that tab.

Posts a far better. They keep the content fresh, and I have found that I rank better this way for whatever reason. Don't know why that happens as I am an SEO deadbeat and way prefer paid traffic.

If you really like and use a particular product and are thinking of endorsing/promoting it more than other products then a page is better. You can have a link to it at the top in your navigation bar. You can make a clear statement that you like and recommend the product with that page.

Else if it is a regular review or even a negative or nuetral review then do it as a post.

    Hello Dita,

Just like what most Warriors above me said, I also recommend you to use them as posts. Sometimes, we have clients who order product reviews from us and hire us to post them on their WP accounts as well. I can't remember a single instance when they told us to use the reviews in pages. They wanted the reviews to be seen as posts. I think you can go with them in unison.

I think it really depends on what type of website you have.

If you have a niche website where you promote 3-4 products and in rest you write informative articles related to the niche you should use pages for your products reviews and posts for your articles.

If you have a reviews website where most of your content are product reviews and only once in a while you write articles that are not reviews then you should go with posts for your product reviews.
