Need business advice

Feel like we have this awesome idea but don't know who to go to and how to patent it...any advice? (it's a new advertising concept...without giving away too much) Anybody have any experience in this area?

    The best advice I can give you is to go to SCORE.ORG and get a consult with them. You'll have to get some sort of attorney most likely for a patent and the process is pretty costly but SCORE will point you in the right direction. It's free, it's a GREAT service and it's rarely used.

    Is this for online advertising ?

    Anyway, I think you can setup patents in any country pretty easily, though it's better to make them international.

    It's funny because i have a friend that's been working for 2yrs now on his startup and it's also a new way of handling offline advertising!

    Normally with a patent you have to be able to protect it. If it was me I would get everything together to put it into action. And then go for the patent after broadcasting it to the world. It's a tricky situation, because once you file for a patent everyone will be able to steal your work and if they have more money than you then they can claim it as their own. So, the real issue is that people know that you created the idea.

    LegalZoom also can help you with utility patents... sounds like that is what you will need.
