The lieutenant - soldier business model

The lieutenant (Please pronounce LEFT TENANT - I do SO love the Brits) soldier business model.

First, a little background/soapbox stuff.

I am something of a listener. Ok, I suck at it! 2 strikes against me:

1. I'm a guy (bad for listening)
2. I've got RIP-ROARING and 35 year long undiagnosed A.D.D.

I'm the 3rd grader staring out the window, and missing the boat on grades (at least until I got a bit older)

I'm the guy who couldn't hold a conversation with someone TO SAVE MY LIFE! Yeah, I wasn't exactly popular. As I got older, it got worse because I somehow figured out how to get all A's, even though I was BORED OUT OF MY MIND. More social problems (nobody wants to cozy up to the kid that gets 200 out of 200 answers right on the Latin roots test) NOBODY!! Trust me on this one.

With age, comes a bit more LISTENING ABILITY. And I've been listening to the members of the WF for, well, awhile. Also, a whole lot of other forums, many of which you'll never find, even if you're pretty good at finding things on the net.

Two things I tend to hear over and over and over (among others of course, but I'm talking now about these two things):

1. I need (help/mentor/SOMETHING) to move my (model/business/mindset/whatever) into a zone where I can actually make money.

2. I can't do (take your pick, the list is long) very well myself, but I don't have the money to outsource, nor do I KNOW HOW TO OUTSOURCE.

For many years, I struggled with both of these. I suspect many in the WF, including the successful, advanced warriors did too.

Solving these two parts of your business WON'T be the holy grail. It will NOT add creativity in a less-than-creative brain. It will NOT magically turn you into a brilliant communicator and master copywriter and and.....nope!

What it WILL do is take the edges off, and perhaps shorten the learning curve and PAIN CURVE that everyone else in the business has experienced.

Lieutenant - Soldier

What do I mean by that? What lurks behind those two simple words? Is this some sort of Chinese Art of War thingie or something? Not exactly, although if you haven't read Sun Tzu's masterful tome, drop EVERYTHING and go read it! NOW!! Just Do It!

The lieutenant side of the model (say LEFT TENANT in your head, ok?) Americans say it all wrong (and no, I'm not a Brit unless you go back some 400 years in my ancestry - actually, my crazy sister went back all the way to William the Conqueror's court - some harlot I think! (laughing)

The lieutenant side of the equation is the answer to problem no. 1

Deploy this and you are RARELY, if ever, going to be whining about a mentor. You have many to choose from, and they are MULTI-DISCIPLINARY. No longer are you worried about how you SUCK at writing copy. You have a lieutenant for that. No longer are you staying up at night, pissed as hell because the kid down the street can spit out PHP code and write Inner Left Joins of a MySQL database in HIS sleep, yet you can't. So what? You have a lieutenant for that. No longer do you have to cross your eyes until your head hurts at a particularly nasty bit of backoffice codebase that your product can't launch without. Ok, you get the picture. Problem No. 1 is toast.

The soldier side of the coin.

There are plenty of things you can do for your business, yet you just never seem to get around to putting in THE TIME to do them. If Internet Marketing were a normal business, you would simply hire someone to do these things. We all know what I'm talking about - the GRUNT WORK. The article cleanup necessary thanks to the wonderful people in INDIA (no offense, guys) who created that awesome set of PLR articles you just bought...argh! The linking, the social bookmarking, the forum posting - you get the picture. It's all a bit overwhelming to ponder having to do all that. And until you are rolling in the dough and can feel comfortable delegating these tasks for MONEY, you get to do them yourself.

Enter the soldier. What is a soldier? Quite simple. SOMEONE WHO OBEYS YOU. Let me say that one more time, for emphasis - SOMEONE WHO OBEYS....as in does what they are told. Often even ON TIME!! Imagine that!

All well and good. But, how do I GET some of these lieutenants and soldiers? I know they are out there, but um, capital isn't exactly my strong suit these days. Ever hear that dilemma? Me too.

The funny thing is - THIS PART IS THE EASIEST TO SOLVE

How do you gather lieutenants and soldiers without paying for them? Pretty simple. It's called "Let's all go make some MONEY together" - team building. some call it Joint Venturing, but that term can be a huge time-waster if you do it wrong. Personally, I call it Direct Networking...which combines a whole package of disciplines from IM to Direct Response, to Mail Order, to Business-to-Business networking to Affiliate Marketing.

Isn't it hard to convince people to join your team with the promise of money "out there"? Most people, I'd imagine, want something up front.

How do you overcome that hurdle?

      Steve,

I'm not sure I follow. You wrote:

The parts that are colored blue are "black boxy" to me, meaning
      I don't see what's beyond your words.

      Care to elaborate?

For example, if you're just beginning, how do you convince
people to believe that they won't be wasting their time joining
your team instead of doing other things.

Or say you want to join a team...

If person A has meager skills, both in quality and in quantity, and
person B is a coding God, what will person A, no matter how big
his or her heart and spirit, bring to the table?

And what disciplines would are you considering important
      for this model?

      Regards,
      Bal
