Kindle Authors: Is Kindling/e-Publishing Dying Down?

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are having a great day. I have a question that I'm sure has been asked and answered before on this forum but I can't find it at the moment.

Do you think Kindling/e-publishing will become over-saturated or...has it already reached that point? I personally feel there will always be room for new authors but it seems like there are a gazillion writers/authors loading books onto Kindle recently and the competition is getting insane or so it seems.

I know the key to beating the competition is to supply quality books but that's not the reason for my questioning. I'm just curious about the popularity of the whole Kindling world; is it growing or dying down?

Of course as I was writing this, I was checking the Internet to find my own answer...and found the following:

- There is an article stating some buzz about a new Amazon Kindle coming out soon to capture college/university students going back in session this month.
- The number of people owning Kindles (and similar e-readers) is still relatively low compared to those owning computers, cell phones, etc.

So does that mean the market for Kindle authors is still in its infancy? I think so but I'm curious what those of you who are interested in Kindle authoring think.

Thanks!

I can't really speak for the selling side of things, however, from the consumer side, it hasn't really. I will say quality has died out quite a bit for us as consumers, so as long as you have a quality product, you will get great reviews and plenty of happy customers.

    Hi eastwest

I am sure this is only the early start of a huge swing to from paper to screen. There are still many people who are addicted to turning a paper page over. They think that they will never leave books and join the revolution. They will come around to it.
The e readers are truly excellent machines that do what they say in a friendly way that non technical people can run with.

For authors who write proper books this is good news.
For marketers who try to game the system with 30 page trash, Amazon is weeding them out fast.

I think it will become more competitive. Writers will need to work harder on marketing. But I think the Kindle and Nook market will continue to grow.

I believe it is getting to the point where you just can't leave the marketing up to amazon anymore. There was a time when you could upload your book and put in a good description and keywords and your stuff would be found. Now you hvae to market your product in other ways in addition to just leaving it up to amazon.

It's not in its infancy, it's a toddler now. There's plenty of room for growth. Kindle sales are still climbing. As they do, Kindles will become even more affordable. More people will be getting them. I was on a plane last week and there were about a dozen people with Kindles.

I think the key to success in this market is to find out what's selling and who's buying it and then write for them. There's a great book out there by John Locke on Kindle book marketing titled, How I Sold 1 Million eBooks in 5 Months!

He was the eighth author to hit a million sales. I can't say enough good stuff about his book. It's about Kindle marketing but one could easily apply the principles to any online marketing effort. At $2.99 it's a steal. It's worth ten times that much.

You have a nice smile, btw.

The more you stop to ask these sorts of questions the less time you have to get in and take advantage of this situation. STOP analyzing and start DOING

Wow...thank you everyone for the feedback. And thanks for the compliment too TravelingGuy! :-) I appreciate that.

You are so right Mike, I've been analyzing for years now and need to get going on the "doing part" or I will be left in the dust. I bought Geoff Shaws Kindling course, which by the way is fantastic, so I guess it's time to put all of that knowledge into action.

Jennifer, Rose, Ken and Dudeontheweb, I agree with you all; it's about (1) doing our research on what the "readers" are looking for plus (2) having a quality product while (3) doing smart marketing.

    I so appreciate your comments!

Anyone who is serious about producing books for Kindle should be focused on writing, writing and writing some more!

In my opinion, this is the opportunity of a lifetime and those of us who have begun building our kindle book portfolios are in the cat bird's seat. Remember, there is the Kindle e-reader and the Kindle app that can be downloaded on practically any device. Kindle books are only going to become more available and in demand.

Yes, competition is picking up as more traditional authors, experienced Kindle authors and first time authors and writers publish more content for Kindle. That's good! Means people are buying. Are you writing quality books that people will want to buy? Well, that's the challenge for each of us, isn't it.

If you're interested in doing it, stop pondering about how many Kindle WSOs are or are not being posted here on the warrior forum--it doesn't matter. People should be busy planning/writing their next book, and the next, etc.
