What is more profitable: A niche site promoting an item for sale, or a site for entertainment?

Hello friends, New to this wonderful forum.

So I'm stuck on step one, an idea for a site.

I have mixed opinions on which type of site would do better, a site that promotes an item, such as a website that focuses on the latest iphones, or a site about which lightbulb is the best for indoor farming for example.

Or, an "entertainment" site that doesn't particularly sell anything; like a site for movie captions, or funny pictures, or a site that helps depression patients cope by sharing advice, etc.

Does it matter? I mean, as long as you're getting traffic it shouldn't matter, right?

Please help me better understand. I've recently started a niche site that is for entertainment purposes only and doesn't leave any doors open for things to actually "sell" and I've been seeing lately on this forum (been a lurker for a little while) people leaning towards niche sites that leave oppurtunities to promote other people's items (through clickbank, etc)

should I start from scratch?

You can ALWAYS sell something on ANY site:

    - If you are doing movie quotes, link to the movie on amazon (with your affiliate ID, of course!)

    - Depression site - get a pharmacy affilate a account, link to self-help books on amazon or even clickbank

You get the idea. good luck!

If I knew how to "thank" on this forum, I'd so give you that fattest thank ever. But since I do not, I will instead verbally thank you.

So, thank you for putting my worries to ease.

My pleasure. My other advice is make a goal to get it set-up and make your first sale by next Monday. Put some pressure on yourself because no one else will (except maybe the Mrs. ).
