Should I Sell My Iphone?

Topic title might not sound related to this category but just bear with me.

I have been having a really difficult time finding work online. Problems keep arising and i never seem to find a good client (im a freelance writer). I am quite broke and i am really starting to get desperate for some cash.

So i was thinking, why not sell my Iphone? If i sold my phone i could probably get 200-300$ for it - not much - but if i could find something to invest that money into do you think it would be a good idea?

Also, if you had 200-300$ to invest, what would you invest in?

Or maybe you have another suggestion for me... It is really starting to get frustrating spending all day searching for clients or some way to make money online and not seeing any results.

Have you tried finding a non-online job? Find a job, save some cash then get back to finding work online on your free time. This way you'll keep your iPhone, get some much needed funds, and have time to find work online.

I wouldn't recommend that you sell your iPhone. What are you going to accomplish by disconnecting yourself from others? Once you spend the money from selling your iPhone, your problem is still there.

I would suggest that you use your skills in writing to create content and then find buyers. Content is always a great asset to webmasters. Your market is huge. You can consider creating content for offline markets. For example, write content for landscaping companies and contact a few companies to see if they would like to buy your content for their website and/or newsletter. Find out which markets are hot for content and then create the content for those markets.

If your iphone is not bring in money for you and it is a high cost each month, then YES sell your iphone. I still have a crappy razor with a dealer line. I pay $15 a month. People mock me all the time that my phone is so primative. Fine by me, I laugh with extra money to invest in each month. To me a smart phone is one that doesn't cost $100 + a month.

For foreigners who don't know Chinese the only job available would be English teaching.

Wow, I had no idea this thread would reappear. For those of you who are too lazy to read through the whole thread; I ended up losing my Iphone on a trip to Hong Kong so I can't sell it even if I wanted to.

I created a writing gig on Fiverr and I have been slowly saving up enough cash for a Ad in the Warriors For Hire section - I only need a few more bucks and I will have enough. Also, I live with my parents so I don't have to worry about starving but being broke and stuck with your parents is not ideal for anyone.

I am going to open a Ad in the Warriors for Hire section and share the work with my brother who also happens to be a writer. I will try to save up enough cash to move out of my parents place and then invest whatever is left over into a internet marketing idea.

So thanks for the suggestions! I don't really know what else to say at this point .

And to the people who hired me through this thread - Thanks A LOT!

Well said, same here. I pay $20 a month for unlimited talk and text on a family plan.

You should keep posting on the related forums about your situation. I'm pretty sure there are so many people looking for the great article writers all the time. Since you are in need of very fast money, you need to write for someone else. Plus, do you have a blog? You should try to monetize it.

I had a wonderful article writer for about a year... She was probably the best writer I ever hired, and could simply write a brilliant article about anything...

How did I find her? She ran an offer on a website similar to this forum, where she gave away 5 articles for free to the first five people who requested. She later told me (if I remember correctly), that almost all of them purchased articles from her in the future.

Simply put, if you show people the quality of your work, maybe doing a free job or two to get started, you'll have your writing business up quick.... I don't think that hundreds of dollars in investment (Cash injection) are needed for a writing business, $20 max (Hosting + Domain + little advertising), so I wouldn't sell the iPhone... (plus you can write articles on the go, communicate with clients... can't do that in an ole flip phone).

    Just my two cents...

The problem with selling your possessions to get living money is that eventually you run out of possessions. Sure, you could sell something, like an iPhone, and get a quick couple of hundred bucks or you could mow a lawn once a week and have a couple of hundred bucks each month... and still have an iphone. In between grass cutting jobs, you could learn to build a less physically tolling business.

What.. do you mean actual physical labor?

Stop Brian you are making far too much sense today. Imagine, having to work at a physical job in exchange for money. What is this world coming to? I thought the internet made everyone rich overnight?

It's not just the quick cash. How much is it a month?? It's a LARGE unnecessary expense. Cut it.

Looking for more work is great, and there are a lot of great ideas here, but if you don't have regular work you should sell your expensive phone until you get back on your feet. It's a burden right now.

If I was in your shoes I'd sell it. I'm not surprised I'm the only one that thinks this way. It's part of being a contrarian.

Take a look at law firms. I have been offered jobs as a writer for law firms for their website. If you are good with web copy that is a really good place to start. Not only is the content fairly easy to write but it also has a lot of credibility for a "resume" when dealing with new clients.

I thought about and i decided to keep my phone. But just for the sake of discussion, if you had a couple hundred extra bucks what would you invest it in? (how do i find the threads i started, can't find the link anywhere)

Oh and the expenses for the phone are quite low, i mainly use it to receive calls.

So you sell your iPhone, and now you have $200, maybe $300?

After selling your iPhone, you have $200 or $300 that will probably disappear pretty quickly. (You know what happens...when you break a $100 bill, after a couple of days, you're asking yourself "where did that $100 go to?") If you didn't break the bill, you'd probably still have it.

If you keep the iPhone, and get creative in finding ways to make money, instead of spending money to make money, (as so many people on here think they need to do, i.e. they keep buying all of the next "shiny objects" they see). You can have your cake, and eat it too.

At this juncture, it probably is best to find an offline job as other people have suggested.

Internet marketing doesn't always take off quickly (sometimes it doesn't at all), you have to find a way to support yourself until when, and if it does.

it is difficult for a foreigner to find a job in Taiwan. I don't really have any special qualifications or degrees either - the only thing that i could do is teach english. If i did sell my phone, do you think it would be a good idea to buy some second hand products and sell them for a profit? There is a website like craigslist but for taiwan (tealit.com) and i'm pretty sure i could buy stuff from people and resell for a small profit. what do you guys think?

Sounds like you need to find an offline job at least for a little while. Save up some cash and start your online business while you work. You can then quit your job when you replace your income. Keep your iPhone or downgrade to a cheaper phone.

You said you're a writer. Why don't you spend $20.00 to open a Warriors For Hire sales thread so you can accept writing gigs? That's one of the options you have. Don't sell our iPhone yet unless you think that's your very last resort.

You have to market your skills. There are people that need what you have. I would have advised that you sell your iPhone and invest the money. You could always buy the latest iPhone later. However, since you said you have lost it, that's no more an option. Here are some things I suggest you could do. Pick the ones you have skills for. Also, do an inventory of your skills and offer them to people. Create a business card and distribute it. You could also market your skills on social networking sites like Facebook. Upload a picture of your business card with your contact details and what you do. Here are some ideas:
    1. Can you fix computers/electronics?
    2. Offer a service such as mowing the lawn
    3. Teach a subject like Math or the Sciences
    4. Look in your neighborhood for problems people have and provide solutions for them
    5. Can you fix cars?
    6. What skills did you acquire at your previous jobs? Make use of them
    7. What do people say you are good at?
    8. Sell items on Ebay
    9. Become an affiliate e.g on Amazon
    10. Write articles. Some websites where you can submit your articles include constant-content, associated content and infobarrel.com
    11. Create information products based on what you know and have experience with and sell them on the kindle and Nook platforms, amongst others
There are many more ideas I could give you. These should give you some ideas All the best!

You could sell the iPhone if you aren't dependent on it like rest of the world.
You can basically take 200-300$ and invest into buying 10 keyword rich domains ($2.95 each with NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO- promotion code)
    Total = $30 for domains
    Hosting at hostmonster $70/year
    Total $100
and install wordpress sites on it.
Invest into articles with remaining $200 and market these sites!

Why buy it in the first place? If you really-really do not need its functions (about 95% of the owners don't), and you bought it to impress those around, you could have bought a gold ring, a good brand watch (even some pre-owned Rolex watches are available for the price!) or something like that what do not drop its value all the time. The person who bought a gold jewelry item 2 years ago, can have about 20% more money for it today if he decided to sell it, while his neighbour who bought a phone.. well, you know what a 2 year old phone can be sold for.
I'd say sell as fast as you can. Only a really rich person can actually afford to have an Iphone: its price must be pennies for its owner.

Is there another phone you can use? If so then yes, I would sell it if in fact you are sure to be able to get 2-300 hundred for it... With the arrival of the new iPhone 5, older models may be harder to get rid of.

My advice, sell the iphone, take that money and invest it to be able to make more money.

Dude... for your own sake... apply some common sense...

If you need cash so bad that you need to sell off your mobile phone, the last thing you should be thinking of is to invest those $200 into ANYTHING. You should be thinking in buying groceries with those $200, and start searching for a McDonalds job right away so you can at least get back on your feet!

While creating the product, do pretend that you are starving, and for the good reason that you are not making enough money all by yourself. It may help you do better - just to push you and make more motivated to surpass your own capabilities.

      Good luck.

How about continuing to try working online?

A new idea pops up in my mind... photography!

How about photography? Learn digital photography (provided that you have a good DSLR machine already). Then proceed to sell your photos on stock photography sites.
You could potentially make hundreds of dollars per month... or more.

    Another idea... blogging
Start a simple blog or vlog on YouTube about "some interesting subject". If you are good in writing, it would work easily for you. But the advertising part would still be quite hard...
