welcome aboard! We were all newbies once, the best way to avoid info overload is to make sure you take action after you study something. Make sure your action:study ratio is at least 1:1, so for every hour your spend studying, spend an hour taking action.

Hi Jeannine, I wonder if you realize how fortunate you are.

I'm an ex-journo. I started Internet marketing after spending about three decades writing and editing for other people. Those are wonderful skills to have.

If you have good writing skills, yes one option is to sell those skills, for example by writing articles, and proof-reading. However, the way I see it, if you do that, you still have someone else telling you what to do. Also, you're strictly limited by the 40 hours or whatever you choose to work each week.

Instead, look for ways to get leverage. You can get leverage by using other people's money, other people's time, other people's skills, other people's whatever...

Consider this... If you're an artist and you paint a nice country scene, in most cases you sell it ONCE and then start all over again from scratch. However, if you write a report or make a video on how to be a successful artist, you get leverage. You sell that evergreen product over and over again for years, maybe decades.

Instead of selling your time, consider leveraging your skills by building your own online business. There are plenty of options. For example, with your own website you can:

    1. Earn revenue from Google AdSense. It's free to join. You have the freedom to choose the topic of your website. This is the easiest option. You don't even need to make a sale. To get paid, all you need is for people to click on the ads on your pages.

    2. Earn affiliate commissions. Nearly all affiliate programs are free to join. Big, respected companies like Amazon have affiliate programs. Again, out of the tens of thousands of affiliate programs and millions of affiliate products, you have the freedom to choose to promote only ones you think are fantastic. It's a bit like writing advertorials, except no advertising manager or editor is telling your to write an advertorial about a mediocre product. If you don't like it, you don't promote it. If you love it, you tell a story about it or write an enthusiastic review or create a case study describing in precise detail how it helped you. And you already know how to do those things!

    3. Sell your own product, for example, a report you write, or a DVD or video you create teaching something you know, or interviewing someone who has useful skills. You can use free OpenOffice software to create a report to sell.

    4. You can create an affiliate program, for example very cheaply using ClickBank, and get leverage by having other marketers promote your product.

    4. Sell advertising space on your website. Save that for when you get big. Anyway, you might want to use the space promoting your own products.

    5. Earn a finder's fee or referral fee. It's a bit fiddly, but it can work very nicely.

If you do one or more of these things, your website works like a 24/7 slave for you.

You are SO fortunate having writing and editing skills. Most Internet marketers struggle for YEARS to acquire such skills, because they're the the foundation on which all marketing grows.

For example, all Internet marketers want to attract more traffic to their websites. Most find doing so a big challenge. Not for you. Because you already know how to write and tell a good story, you can attract traffic by writing guest posts for other blogs and websites. That's a HUGE advantage.

If you want to leverage your editing skills, you can hire people to write articles for you, and then add your own personal touches and improvements, add your own "voice". I'm still generating useful revenue from a couple of case studies written by a student I hired a decade ago.

Make the most of your skills. Leverage them by designing your own business around your own skills and interests.

I agree with this. Those skills will put you ahead of at least 95% of other new marketers (IMHO).

Romer wish a very warm welcome!

The Warrior Forum has plenty of information in any internet marketing field that exists. Be sure to check out the sub-forums and make use of the Search feature for looking for specific information.

It also has a Warrior Special Offers section which contains offers made by Warriors for their ebooks, videos and courses which you can get dirt cheap. Usually the same WSO goes on to sell outside for a much higher price.

    Welcome, Romer Editing!

As others have touched on, FOCUS and ACTION are the keys to succeeding online.

There are a variety of methods and systems you can choose. Freelance writing is a good way to get your toes wet, but it's also slower, more cumbersome, and usually less profitable than other methods (it can be a good way to build up some start-up money, though.)

Here are some of the main ways people make money online (MMO):

    1. Affiliate marketing - you promote other people's products
    2. Article marketing - you write articles, submit them to article directories, and utilize the resource box to direct them back to your site or your affiliate link.
    3. AdSense - create mini sites in niche markets and monetize them with relevant AdSense advertising.
    4. Create Your Own Product - create your own information product: an e-book, a special report, a training video, or even a script or plugin, then sell it (and possibly leverage that by creating your own affiliate program so others are selling for you.)
    5. Relationship Marketing - become somewhat of an expert on a topic, then create a loyal following and email list that you promote products to.

Lastly, I'd suggest that you spend more time in the internet marketing and JV Partnership portions of the forum, and avoid the WSO (Warrior Special Offers). Until you get the hang of all this, it's easy to get distracted and start doubting yourself -- which will cause you to lose focus and traction in your business.

Do something PRODUCTIVE and PROFITABLE every day (and checking e-mail etc. doesn't count) to propel your business forward.

    Best of luck to you!

    Mary

you can make a lot of money online as a writer, and you have the skills needed to do a good job online since most selling is done by text. And if you market yourself as a freelance writer, you can actually make some big bucks (if you write high quality articles).

I agree that you should also be careful about the shiny object syndrome and learning too much. I think that you should learn a lot for the first month and don't even do anything if you aren't sure what you want to do. Just learn about all the different things you could do. Then, once you have an idea of the direction you want to go, take action, and then I'd say slow your learning to about 1 hour of learning for every 7 hours of work. So if you were working 8 hour days, you would be taking action 7 of those 8 hours, and learning for 1 hour. That's kind of how I roll and it works well for me.

Welcome Jeannine, information overload can be a real nightmare!!

What I would suggest doing is posting in the Warriors For Hire section to generate some work for yourself. There is always someone looking for a good native English copywriter & I'm sure they pay well!

I hope this helps & good luck!

    Hi Jennine,

Welcome to the forum. You have a wonderful skill since you are a writer and it will serve you well. My first advice to you is do not buy everything you are introduced to.Choose a niche, study it, speak to people about products that are available and ask their advise before purchasing. The internet can be a bottomless pit of expenditures if you do not!

      Hi Jeannine

Less is more. Some good advice here. Sounds like you are focusing on your strengths inbetween building skills and other potential income streams.
First focus on what you want to do. That way, you will at the very least, reduce your need to be distracted by every new product that comes along.

Allan's advice above is sound......doing your own product creation is a real key, as you have honed skills already.

SET YOURSELF APART! There are no shortage of writers and creators here, so you are always looking for the edge....

    ....ways to stand out...

    to inject passion into information

and rise above the white noise.
