Any advice on how to get more traffic in a unique market?

I run an online auto salvage company. We are what you would call a 'cash for cars' type program. You want to get rid of your vehicle, you search the web and find a company like mine. we make you an offer, provide you with free towing and have the vehicle removed in 24 hours.

As a veteran to the auto salvage market, The easy part is actually buying these vehicles. As a novice to Internet marketing (or any type of marketing, for that matter) I feel like I may be missing out on some key points to generating more traffic.

my websites are offalcar.com and myoldjunkcar.com

Any help, insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would have someone do some keyword research (look in the warriors for hire section) to determine the keywords people are searching for to find services like yours. I'd then start an adwords campaign to attract traffic to your site while outsourcing SEO for those keywords.

what else you can do is setup a google adwords acount like he said and use google's keywords tool "MAKE SURE YOU SET THE FILTER TO EXACT FROM BROAD" in order to get a more focused idea or exactly what people are looking for. Google also will pre generate some closely related words or word phrases. My suggestion is you might wanna tackle some longer tail keywords to focus in on.. EXAMPLE:: "RED TRUCK" " RED TOYOTA 4X4" if this helps any... BEST OF LUCK

absolutely! keyword research is the foundation to being found on the web. Once you know what people are looking for, then you can learn to outsource articles and backlinks to drive your pages to the front of google to be found. There is a definite science behind it.

    Hi Offal Car,

I have three ideas for you, which I think may help.

    1. Sign up for Google Adwords, and try to predict the types of words that people use when searching for your service. The more specific you are, the better your return will be. Focus on targeting your local area, because that is where your business will come from and if you spread yourself too wide, Google will eat up all your money. Google Ads will target people in your area that are looking for your service which is exactly what you are after.

    2. Build a Facebook page and focus on building up your likes for free through Family and Friends. Chances are they won't have an old car for you, but if they hear of anyone with an old car, they will be sure to recommend you. Perfect for Word of Mouth advertising.

    3. Get the oldest looking bomb you have and park it on the side of a busy road. Then either put a sign on the roof, or paint your details on the window. This will be sure to capture people's attention and let them know exactly what you do.

    All the best mate.

    Cheers

    Jake

SEO is definitely the way to go. Presumably you only work in a certain area? If your market is unique as you say and you narrow that down even further to a locality then SEO wise it should be easy to rank for. Thats providing people are actually searching for it of course!

We actually do National work, but try to focus on the top 20 states for our particular industry. Would it be smart to focus on a minimal amount of locations to see what works better in certain states?

Being a unique market, meaning we are not selling a product, but rather looking to purchase product from potential customers.

3 Question to find out for you:
#1. Where are your potential customers gathering online? Target your market
    - ?? market places, ?? forums, ?? associate, ?? group online
#2. What is your USP (Unique Selling Points)?
    - What you have others don't, then show to them.
#3. What is your 'Irresistible Offered price and package' for them?

    Hope it helps

There are some busy motoring forums you can post. I have found forums to be a huge traffic generators. Our site gets 20 percent or more traffic from forums and it is good quality relevant traffic, real people. It will take some time to leave good quality posts and establish yourself but it is well worth it. You may even get addicted to forum posting so you get traffic by doing someting you like.

I have a client who tried all the bells and whistles and various other gimmicks with limited success.

I can only speak for HIM.....but UGLY YELLOW HAND WRITTEN BANDIT SIGNS STRATEGICALLY PLACE IN HIGH TRAFFIC DENSE AREAS are responsible for a 27% increase in his business.

It's old school.....controversial......and use a google voice number for your signs.

I've used signs for so many traffic generating ventures I've lost count. They work.

        peace, Vegas Vince

p.s. remember of all the color combos we tested a black sharpie on stiff yellow sign board works best.

Thank you for this. I have chosen to blog a lot of different aspects of our industry, but never thought to start posting and joining forums in a like minded industry.

There used to be a windows application I had at one time. That application had all the auto salvage guys, and some others... that requested parts, received quotes etc. I can't remember the damn name of that application now. I actually wish I could remember it. Because it had what seemed to be a heck of a large user base.

Basically people would look for parts in this application. Or they would post a request for a part. Then they would get quotes back in the app itself.

Seemed to be one busy system... where I am sure if that thing still exists would help increase sales. If I remember what it was, I will come back and post it. Maybe someone else has seen the application before as well. It was basically a parts finder application, that all the parts finder people used.

I would just focus locally then work from there. Narrow your keywords down to your local area. Once you get that market nailed then move up.

    1. Build a fanpage
    2. Name the page "I love Cars" or "I love ____". Use an angle that would make car enthusiasts like your page
    3. Create content that you think can be easily shared by your fans
    4. Slowly build a list
    5. Slowly promote your business
