Red Background Causes Bidders to be More Aggressive

Some research has shown that bidders tend to be more aggressive in their bidding when the background is red. But it works better with bids that are bin.

When eBay bidders see red, bids rise - Life Inc.

OOPS, I just noticed this same study was referenced a couple of weeks ago. Should have used search first before posting .

Totally agree with this. When making a website, you should focus your colors based on the demographic you are trying to attract. You should definitely look into it for your next project.

Btw, weren't you curious as to why you see so much red on this site?

Just for split testing purposes... has anyone ever tried to sell a WSO with a pink button? I seriously wonder if it would convert better from the "WTH" ratio, then any of the other buttons!

Any attractive color would actually steal people's attention, not only in auction sites. But sometimes, if it is designed poorly, it might not work as well...

Well, the idea behind the study was not stealing attention per se, but rather making them more aggressive ... they already had the attention.

Hahaha i think red does kind of get people making those kind of actions. However, i tend to find most marketing sites always have a blue background.

Thanks for sharing this information, Marvin. I read an e-book about a research made on different colors when it comes to business or people's moods. It shows that red steers the reader to be more aggressive.
