6 Steps To $20,000/Monthly

Dear Fellow Warriors,

It seemed like just yesterday that I joined the warrior forum. When I was semi-green and curious to learn more. Those were the days where I did directory submissions (Yes I kid you not!) manually for SEO and even had an excel spreadsheet to keep track.

I've done well. And the warrior forum has played a good part of helping me. We're almost grossing 7 figures a year and have 7 in-house staff. A consult with John Carlton has spurred me on to aim for $3mil next year.

But this post is not about me. But to share tried and proven tactics that have worked well for me. And to let fellow warriors know that it is truly possible to earn a dream income with flexible working hours (packed with lots of holidays) through the internet.

The steps shared here aren't groundbreaking. Aren't sexy or interesting. But they worked well for me and continue to work well.

Here's to making $20,000 a month as fast as possible.

================================================== ========

Here's some tactical ideas in the rough. The steps are simple though the details within each point will take you a while to master. We make a ton of passive cash through an advanced model of this. But this will suffice for now I'm sure.

1. Find a niche to dominate and grow. Not small sub-niches but big niches with hungry buyers. Eg. Forex, weight loss, personal development, IM etc. With big niches it's much easier to attract traffic or pay for traffic.

2. Create a squeeze page and start building your list. Split test for best opt-in conversions. Test 3 different squeeze page concepts. Find a winner, then test slight variations of it. Variations can include the headline, pics, bullets, colours etc. The % improves make a big difference over time or if you run huge numbers of traffic.

We use A/B Testing Tool | Split Testing and Multivariate Testing Software - Visual Website Optimizer for our testing.

3. Setup an autoresponder sequence giving both value and promoting offers. Use getresponse/aweber. You'll have to test which works best for you and your niche. Or which style you prefer Subscribe to Ben Settle - Top Email Marketing Specialist and learn from him. =)

4. Create your own offer and have a kick-ass funnel with a strong frontend and multiple upsells. We generally have 1 frontend offer and 2 OTOs. You want to have your opt-ins see this immediately after they opt-in.

If you don't have this at the start, redirect to other strong affiliate offers. If you're running your own offers. Track your conversions and EPCs. We use Ad Trackz Gold - Ad Tracking Software - Easily track which of your traffic sources are effective. for this

5. Test and drive traffic like mad to your squeeze. Track and test your ROI. This would be your toughest challenge at the start. SEO, PPC, Facebook Ads, Media buys, Paid Solos etc. As your list grows to about 5-10k. You can start searching for JVs and cross promotions. Things will get easier.

6. Send emails 2-3 times a week (Or whichever technique you might learn about in email marketing) promoting an offer.

Pretty much most of the work is to be done at the front. Testing is constant work unfortunately. However the rest can be automated as much as possible and you'll hit a stage where you'll making decent/good money. And have considerable time freedom.

Then get greedy and rework all the steps again for a related/complimentary offer. You can now do cross sells.

Or...enter a new niche. I generally prefer related/complimentary offers though.

I hope you found this useful and I wish you all the best. =)

Regards,
Alvin Huang

P.S I'm not selling anything or going to promote anything later on. I've exited the biz opp market and am in non-biz opp niches.

I like how you tell us to generate an email list. Most people don't understand how important an email list is in making money. I have 1 website that I am working on now with regards to a list.

Not making as much as you, but pulling in around $5,000 with each site so far. These are great tips!

Alvinhuang! care to share contact? I am looking to go into Forex niche but I am not exactly know where to start. I currently already had 50 forex articles on hand and just waiting to kickstart my own campaign.

Your steps are genuinely real and basic in starting IM. It is just a matter of time and scale to reach 20k/mth.. I am a newbie and I am aiming to have a stable income before scaling up to support my family.

    Cheers! let do this together

Glad that some of you found them useful. Yes this model boils back down to having a list and scaling it up.

    nicholasb, Andrei Rotariu: lol

Jackson Tan: Don't you have that free report sharing how to drive traffic? Start there?
The model I shared basically applies to all niches. I would say the toughest part is always traffic. You have to figure that out yourself. On which route you would choose to take and which makes you a decent ROI. SEO, Paid traffic etc.
You can try joining this group on facebook for help.

giddingsgrl: You can try PMing me if you got questions. I'll reply when I can as I don't log into warriorforum as much.

Guys, this is but a basic model which would pretty much work for the average guy. Definitely doable without much technical expertise. I'm but a small fish in the bigger world out there. Like I attended clickbank exchange and saw Mike Hill's presentation on media buys. Totally blew my mind.

    Anyways best of luck everyone!

this is a solid model which is very similar to mine

its not pretty and it doesn`t sound very exciting does it but this is it, this is why so many people get stuck and not get anywhere because they go for other strategies which may sound more exciting, flashy and fun

as nicholas mentioned above, it`s 5 steps too many for most people but for some of you, I urge you to take this information and run with it ;-)

Thanks Alvin for sharing this post.

I have a few questions if you don't mind.

    - Do you develop a website beside your squeeze page, like adding articles and content to your main website? Or you only work with squeeze pages and advertise to get traffic to it?

    - Do you get free traffic from the search engines or you only advertise?

    - Is it not difficult to advertise your squeeze page with adwords and the like? (i know google doesn't like squeeze pages).

    - Can you share your subscriber worth every month? Like the $1 per subscriber / month? What can we aim for?

    - So basically you earn all that money from the lists you have build?

Glad that this post made more people reconsider list building as a higher priority.

      - Do you develop a website beside your squeeze page, like adding articles and content to your main website? Or you only work with squeeze pages and advertise to get traffic to it?

      - Do you get free traffic from the search engines or you only advertise?

      - So basically you earn all that money from the lists you have build?
      Victor

      1. Yes it'd be great if you got a website/blog with content. We're starting to do more of that right now actually.
And then redirect the traffic to your squeeze page. Like Popup Domination works well for blogs. Because we already
have a list. We can easily enter sub-related markets easily by just starting a new squeeze/new funnel etc and promote
it. Test conversions and EPCs before rolling it out to JV partners and affiliates.

Unfortunately if you're just starting out. You wouldn't be able to do it this way. So it might be wise to build an authority blog. Or feeder blogs (SEOed Domains) with content funneling traffic back to your squeeze.

      2. We still get search engine traffic but it ain't that much anymore. We do SEO maintainence for our portal websites but haven't focused much on it last 4 years. I do want to go back to SEO as an alternative traffic source but my team is strained with other matters right now. Thing about SEO is that results can be slow and the search engines like big G can be fickle. No doubt a person can be successful with it. But I just didn't follow that route.

      3. Yes it is difficult. I believe there are ways around it as I still see some squeeze pages advertised on adwords. I think they build a blog behind the squeeze with links at the bottom or something. I must admit. Adwords is not my forte and I've outsourced this to a consultant. We haven't ran our campaigns yet though. You'll need to check this up with an adwords expert.

      4. Subscriber worth. Well we all love to say the cliche $1 per month. But it depends on tons of variables. The products you promote. Whether you promote enough a month etc. This ain't my strong point and I don't get $1 per subscriber. I'm getting about $0.20 to $0.40 customer value per month.

I would say don't bother so much about customer value first. Focus on building the list and relationship with your list. Then focus on earnings per click that you get. If you can get EPCs of above $1 for every promotion you do. You're doing great. We just started a small list of 3k in another sub-niche and it just made us $400+ in one email. Sending to unopens later today and seeing how it fares. As you can see, the customer value of this list looks potentially higher than my average.

      5. Majority of our money is earned through the list. We have affiliates promoting our products on clickbank too. I would say we earn about 70% of our income from our list. If you were to take everything from me. My staff, my products. Even with my list I'll do fairly fine rebuilding everything else. But take away my list and leave me with my staff, products and everything
else. That'd be a much tougher climb back up.

      Hope this helps Victor.

Alvin, I found this post extremely useful, you are really good at what you do.

How long did it take for you to start making money?
Thomas Hill: I was lucky when I first started. I bought Jim Cockrum's "Silent Sales Machine" ebook and made
money straightaway selling ebooks on ebay. (Not allowed anymore though). If you're keen to read an interview about that
process. You can look up an old interview over here. Email Interview #18: Alvin Huang | John Yeo

Do you have anything for driving taffic?
jonathanloosle: Sorry buddy. Traffic generation itself is a whole big topic by itself that would take an entire program to cover. As we build our list, we sorta got lazy and relied more on the traffic generated from a list. We did adswaps and cross promotions that just helped up build our list and sell more products.

If I was to start now. I'll probably start an authoritative blog and make sure everything else channels back to my squeeze. Build a list. It'd take a while. But aim for 10 opt-ins a day. You'll have 300 in a month and 3600 in a year even if you stick at 10 a day. And when you have a 1k list you can then start searching other small list owners to do cross promotions or adswaps. It gets easier then.

      Hi,

I've read your post on WF about 6 steps to making 20k/month and I'd like to thank you for the information you provided. You basically
described a model I startedusing about month ago.

As you said, the hardest part is driving traffic and I'm a good example of that. I wonder if you are involved in "dating advice
      for men" niche?
I can't find any decent sites I could advertise on in this niche (for a reasonable price, I'm not talking about askmen.com etc.) and maybe you could help me a little bit.

What are your favorite traffic methods?
I guess you're not doing much SEO, because it's rather hard to rank a squeeze page?
Do build only squeeze pages or do you expand them with blogs and lots of content? I've seen people claiming that building lists through blogs and article syndication (content in general) they manage to have very high open
rates, what results in more sales than squeeze pages 'give'. On the other hand, it takes way more time than paid traffic...

I'll appreciate sharing your experience with me.

      Marcinao"
Sorry Marcinao I'm not in the dating advice for men niche. But you can still check out selfgrowth.com over here Advertising Your Products and Services on SelfGrowth.com

The solos to their Natural Health List is $600 and does decent for me. I know I know it sounds weird. Doesn't seem like a good fit eh. But interestingly enough people mainly interested in 1 niche can still be interested in other niches. You wouldn't know until you've tested.

Just to share. I've promoted wealth generation/generic IM products to my personal development list and done well. Hit and miss sometimes. I've promoted dating/relationship type products to my PD list and did relatively well too. I do buy solos from IM list to promote my PD gifts/offers. It's also a hit and miss. But sometimes it does well and its a new source of traffic.

So explore and test. Sorry that I cannot offer more help in this area. But what I would say is check out your competitors. Use alexa.com and check out their related links. Then check out the related links of those related sites. You'll be able to find more websites on your niche, some portals..some crappy websites...that's called research eh. And you might be able to find websites where you can advertise on. That's how I found some sources.

I believe there are paid tools that can help with this digging but I'm not familiar with that.

... Or you could just go smart and get yourself an already built, marketed and ready to go system ( with the capture pages, sales funnel, sales videos, banners and everything) and just take care of traffic.
      -Vladi Vasilev
I wouldn't really call that very smart. Perhaps lazy. lol

Ok that might work Vladi but you'll most likely buying a sales funnel that many others have purchased. It'd still work but conversions wouldn't be the best. Even with PLR it'd be best to rework the title/graphics at least a little to stand out.

Also the conversions have to be the best since many others have purchased it.

And why do you have to stand out from something that's working great?

We still make money off our biz opp offers and affiliates still promote them. So we didn't remove our websites.

Cool Hand Luke that wso was posted mid 2011. I would say you can consider me a pretty inactive WSO seller right?

Oh well..guess some people will still be haters.

        Hey Alvin,

I was gonna say the same thing - it's pretty obvious from the date in your signature showing 2009 that you're not actively selling those products now. Pity other people couldn't realize that.

From what I gather you are doing big things in the Self Improvement market and hence are no longer in IM. With the 6 steps you've just outlined it's little wonder you are now closing in on 7 figures.

Thanks for the tips and best of luck for the future.

        Kenneth

Pointing out when someone goes out of there way to lie about not self-promoting doesn't make anyone a "hater", Alvin. It simply means that if you're going to self promote but go out of your way to say you aren't self-promoting, you might get called out on your hypocrisy. If you aren't promoting anything or selling anything, then it's pretty simple to edit your signature or simply disable it for a thread in which you insist you have nothing to sell or promote.

Maybe you need to re-read what you wrote:

Yes, you are. Literally right now. Your signature links show your Clickbank product in the money-making niche (which is currently for sale) and a free WSO designed to act as lead-gen and get email addresses (in this niche). So it's not even a question that you are "selling anything" right now or "going to promote anything later on"....you're doing it at this moment.

Again, your signature links say otherwise.

You started a good thread about a general outline for a successful online business, which is nice and I think a lot of the newbies here need. There's no need to have a temper tantrum because several members called you out on saying you aren't selling or promoting anything in this market when in fact you are.
Cool Hand Luke: I had stated that because I had closed down my IM business earlier this year with a partner. The employee was absorbed into my personal development business. I did not think of my sigs which have not changed for a very long time.

Apologies for the defensiveness as I felt that I was telling the truth. And I had merely wanted to give back but yet got called out. I've edited the sig. Hope this suits you better. And I had no idea how to edit a sig just for a thread. Didn't even know that was possible.

The clickbank product listed was sold in 2008. The lead gen wso was posted mid last year. Yes wordsmith Luke. I should be more careful with words. As what I had intended to say was this thread wasn't a prelude to me selling anything later on.

But I think it'd be easier if I just refrain from posting and sharing from now on.

          Regards,

            Hey Alvin,

Don't let people get to you - you didn't do anything wrong, he's just pushing your buttons because of your sig links. It's a fair call and you could have just not included them when you posted, but then again when you're feeling good and wanting to share your success with others it's easy to forget how people will twist your motives and decide the worst about you with little or no reason so I can understand why you might not even have thought about your sig links when you posted, but someone will always pick you up on it even when there's no reason to.

That reminds me of the Paradoxical Commandments by
              Dr. Kent M. Keith:
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
              Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
              Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
              Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
              Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
              Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
              Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
              Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
              Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
              So, do good anyway

I would like to ask if anyone on this thread knows of a successful site or two one can look at, so as to learn from it. Obviously there is Chris Farrell's membership site, but that's really big stuff, with content created over several years. I'm thinking more of a smallish site with maybe ten pages of content that brings in maybe $4000 a month. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a real site that works really would help us newbies understand what constitutes a successful site.
            Many thanks,
            Roger

    Alvin,

This is a great post. List building is in the heart of push-button profits - You can make a ton of money at a single broadcast email provided you have a big list of targeted subscribers.

Nevertheless, the hard part is the list-building itself.

Great list, it's very similar to my plan for the next 12 months for IM. I am hoping to make $3k/month within 3 months, and $5k/month by the end of next year, which is more than reasonable I believe.

    Thanks alvinhuang!

People tend to over complicate the system. The argument about going into a broad niche rather than a more targeted niche is an interesting one.

Seems to me a very broad niche will work if it is filled with hungry buyers. But not all broad niches fit this criteria.

You have given back an an awful lot of very valuable information in this thread.
This is one I'm going to read, and reread. Thank you my friend.

Awesome info! Thanks for sharing Alvin!

    Quick question for all.

Should my website just be a one page squeeze page or do you guys recommend having some content but still making the home page predominantly a squeeze page?

    Thanks

Alvin, Thank you for posting your 6 steps. I found the information very
inspiring and useful. Especially the #1 with a larger niche. I had been looking smaller, like many suggest.

Did this post provide anything new or unique? Or does this become a great post by adding a $20,000 tag to it?
I can give a great advice as well. Build a real business like google, yahoo, youtube, facebook etc.
Then you don't even have to mess with squeeze pages, funnels and legally spamming your email list.

When I was semi-green and curious to learn more. Those were the days where I did directory submissions (Yes I kid you not!) manually for SEO and even had an excel spreadsheet to keep track.
lol... I did that when I started as well.

I remember sitting for 2 hours every day listening to spotify while submitting all my sites to 100s of directories.

Then I would do the same thing with blogengine blog commenting.
