How many of you consider the concept of "internal marketing"?

Internal marketing is how well you treat the people you work with and hire. It seems many IMers are simply looking for the lowest cost and forget they are working with real human beings.

Treating your people well has many benefits. Steve Wynn is a famous Las Vegas casino developer. When he built the Mirage, he actually spent more money on the employee dining room than he did on Kokomos, which was the most expensive restaurant in the Mirage all the time.

He knew that the better he treated his workers, the better they would treat his custumers.

Next time you hire a freelancer, you may want to think to yourself if you are treating that person better than his/her other clients?

Paying better than the next guy and showing appreciation for a job well done can mean priority treatment and little "extras" in the jobs they do.

Paying the lowest possible price rarely gets you the best value or long-term results.

I definitely agree with this. When I work for someone how they treat me definitely adds to the value I give them. If I feel confident in our relationship I start to see more opportunities for me to promote them and start giving them more information and insight on beneficial findings they have not thought about. This leads to longer relationships and definitely quicker turn-around and a better product and service for them.

I like to have clear communication, the ability to ask questions, get feedback, and share things. I have found that I am much pickier about who I will work with now, due to some unclear and negligent relationships with the people who have hired me.

Yes I totaly agree! I have a friend who constantly changes freelancers when a cheaper one is available. He doesn't build relationships and his freelancers are not giving 100% out of them. I currently have a two freelancers hired - one for offline flyer distribution and one for building websites. I have a strong work relationship with them and they have both worked for me for over two years now. I tend to give them bonuses and extra money, when I am doing really well thanks to them.

All I can say is A-Frickin'-Men. Treat people right and they'll turn themselves inside out to help you.

If you treat the people whose job it is to serve you like part of the furniture, you get the bare minimum service they have to give to keep their jobs. Treat them like people who deserve respect, and you get the best they have to give.

Way back when I used to help out screening job candidates, I preferred to do so over coffee or a meal at the local diner. You can tell a lot about someone by how they treat people who are not in a position to help them.

I don't remember where I heard it, but it's something I try to live by...

Treat each employee as if they were your best customer.

    All the best,
    Michael

In addition to treating your employees well and recognizing their individual value and contributions, an integral component for high achievement is effectively communicating your vision so they feel they are part of a team.

"Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results."

Not even getting into the woo woo factor here, but pretty much what goes around, comes around. And if you are willing to ditch someone or squeeze them to get every last drop of profit out of them that you can, you can bet that is going to come back to you.

Hiring free lancers, looking for promotion partners, even finding customers, all people that it is to your highest good to treat well, all the time. Make that one of the prime rules of your business and you are going to have a lot more really good days, and make a lot more money, and like what you do a lot more.
