I'm having an issue with Wordpress. I had some posts up as pages and I decided I wanted the pages published as posts instead. So I deleted the pages and published them as posts - with one post published as sticky to the main page - but now I get a 404 error saying post not found. In fact, the only way to find the post is by navigating through the category. What did I do wrong?

    Hey mate,
That error 404 sure is a pain in the butt. In a similar boat with my wordpress site where the auto responder takes the customer to my thank you page and up pops.....error 404!

So lets see if the warriors can help you...and maybe me too! Good luck mate.

Can you try explaining that again. Not being facetious, but I truly don't understand what you are trying to say.

Did you set a static home page? If so, remove it now that the page no longer exists so that your posts are your front page.

From the information you provided this sounds like what is causing the problem.

    2 options...

    1. In the Wordpress dashboard, go to settings-reading- make sure on opening that you are directed to posts not page.
    2. The other point is that Wordpress doesn't like duplicates of files and pages so I wonder if there is a conflict? Get in touch with your hosting company for help.

We have all been there, so keep going!

It sounds like you need a plugin like Quick Page/Post Redirect Plugin
WordPress › Quick Page/Post Redirect Plugin « WordPress Plugins

This is the one I've been using for a while now.

    Hope that helps!

Make sure the pages are actually deleted and not sitting in "Trash". They can't exist at all, otherwise there will be a conflict.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I finally figured it out - I did all the things everyone suggested and also had to change my Front Page display in the Reading Settings to latest post. Problem solved!
