Another Tax Thread, But I Have Different Questions

Hello guys,

I'm currently doing my research on paying taxes being an internet marketer. I am a European affiliate marketer and product creator and would love if someone could help me understand how I should pay taxes in my country.

I am located in Slovakia and I'm currently making money as:

an Amazon affiliate (I've got a few checks already - never worried about taxes)

a Clickbank affiliate (I have made some money but haven't been paid yet - I set a quite high check treshold on purpose, because I first want to understand the tax problem)

a product creator - I have a product placed on Clickbank that is making me money, so I make money on Clickbank both as an affiliate and a vendor, too.

a CPA marketer - I am with Maxbounty and Neverblue and have made some money with them

These are my questions:

1. I'm a foreign non-US affiliate - do I pay taxes to the IRS and to my country's government, as well? Who do I pay to?

2. Do I have to register a business name or company to be able to pay taxes?

3. While joining the CPA networks, I was asked to fill out the W8-Ben form - But I don't really understand what it means to me. Can anyone clarify?

Basically I have no clue about paying taxes but I do know about marketing and traffic generation. I know how to make money but I don't know about taxes.

Please any advice will be greatly appreciated and welcome. Thank you!

    1. I'm a foreign non-US affiliate - do I pay taxes to the IRS and to my country's government, as well? Who do I pay to?

No, you do not need to pay US taxes. The W8 Ben form establishes that you are not in the US and do not need to pay income taxes.

You do need to declare the income according to your country's tax laws.

    2. Do I have to register a business name or company to be able to pay taxes?

No. If you are not a registered business, any income would be personal income.

In some countries it can be a benefit to register a business and allocate the income to the company instead of yourself.

    3. While joining the CPA networks, I was asked to fill out the W8-Ben form - But I don't really understand what it means to me. Can anyone clarify?

The W8 Ben form is so they are assured that you are not a US citizen and do not need to declare income tax.

Without a W8 Ben form, they may need to submit documents to the IRS related to payments they make to you for tax purposes.

Thank you for the response, very appreciated. I have a few more questions.

    1. I also read in another thread that Paypal will report your income if you make over $20,000 in one year and you are in the U.S. - Is that right?

    2. I'm in Germany - Am I allowed to make as much as I want, have as much money as I want in my Paypal account and send money from Paypal to my bank without any restrictions and without being reported to the IRS?

    3. I heard that Clickbank break the EU regulations somehow and that paying taxes in Europe from Clickbank earnings is rather complicated. Could any Europe-based Clickbank affiliate help?

    Thank you!

      I think I can.

This as you know is an IM forum and at a guess, unless a Slovak is here to help, I suspect this isn't the best place to get Slovakian tax advice.

What I'd do is Google "slovakian tax advice" or I'd simply ring up a local Slovakian accountant and ask his/her advice. Forgive me but it would be far quicker and I think the information will be far more accurate than bumping this thread.

I am located in Slovakia and I'm currently making money as:
      I'm in Germany
Edit. In the first post you said you're in Slovakia and then in the next post you said you're in Germany. Either way, wherever you are, seek an accountant in the country you're in now.

With respect I think you're over complicating things.

I meant I am from Slovakia but temporarily I live in Germany.

Anyway, I tried contacting a local tax adviser but she didn't know at all what internet marketing is and she was wasn't able to give me proper advice.

It seems it's quite complicated. If anyone else from Europe could drop in any piece of advice, that would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

With respect an accountant doesn't need to understand what you do, they are there to handle money and taxes. Besides how hard is it to explain what you do to them? You're not surely saying that because you're an internet marketer she turned you away? Sorry but that's the sign of a crap accountant and you need to find another.

I'm in England, I have an accountant, that's why I suggested it. As soon as I needed one I called one here in London. Simple, but seeing as you have tried to talk to an accountant once and have now given up on that, I wish you great luck getting German accountancy advice on the Warrior forum.
