Music industry - Itunes conversion rate ?

Hi all!

First post here, I am new to affiliate marketing, in the learning process.

I have spent a while looking for a niche using Market Samurai and now I found one that I like, that I know well and that has little competition with good traffic potential, however, it is in the music business.

I would like it if you gave me your opinion on the music industry, is it a bad idea since anyone can download music for free nowadays? I am asking because the only way I see I could monetize that project is threw selling MP3's and signing up with Adsense.

Also, have any of you or someone you know used ITunes's affiliate program? If so, was it converting well?

Thanks!

  • Congratulatons on picking a niche that you actually know well. It's nice to hear that there are still folks out there who spend time finding something to promote that they actually enjoy and are passionate about. Income wise however, especially relating to promoting the purchase of music, you will have to be able to direct an "extremely" high amount of traffic in order to make a profit. I.E. you run a popular high traffic blog, or have a large list of music buyers. If not, you would have to experiment with PPC ads and try to turn a net profit after ad spend.

    Thanks for the quick answer!

Since I am new I don't even know what an ''extremely'' high amount of traffic means lol

Using Market Samurai I added the traffic results of the keywords that I would use, the software says that I would get around 3000 visits per day if I ranked first in Google. I think I could rank first (that is after learning SEO and preparing a site with good content prior to publication) because I looked at the competition that was ranking first second and third and it was Wikipedia and YouTube videos.

Anyways, assuming I would rank first after hard work, 3000 per day, is that an ''extremely'' high amount of traffic or is it small for affiliate marketing purposes?

    Thanks

  • Receiving 3000 visits per day via SEO with no ad expenses would not be bad, but turning 3000 visits into actual "profit" would depend on what percentage of them actually click through and purchase products in order for it to translate into a profit for you. There's a difference between sending 3000 hard core Tobo1981 fans to the new Tobo1981 album that sells for $10, (which would pretty much guarantee that a large chunk of them would buy) and sending 3000 general folks to the itunes website to browse and hopefully come across something that they may buy. Try to target your audience (rock, reggae, dance, horror movies, etc...) and match them with specific products that they show interest in, this will help allot.

Welcome to the forum. 50 cent said the music industry is "low" right now. Haven't heard any new songs from him lately. But the beat goes on... artists like Trey Songz, Keyshia Cole, Lil Wayne, and Ne-yo are still producing hits. Even though people can download songs for free online, i'm sure you will find people who will buy from you when they visit your site.

As far as iTunes conversion rates... i dont know, but i do know that financial expert Suze Orman uses it successfully for her business and television show.
