Suggestion on new business

I am planning to run a small freelance site that would cater a very specific niche (not IM-related). I can't figure out how to charge the customers. The following are some of my options.

  1. charge employer $5 for every successful transaction while charging employee $3
  2. charge both for $5 for every successful transaction
  3. charge 5% to 7% for both for every successful transaction (percentage of project cost)
  4. charge employer $1 to gain contact information of the employee. no additional charges for any successful transactions. charge employee $1 to gain employer's contact details

So far, the above are just my options.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Thank you,
adie

You should also refer to other freelance site and check the percent of fees they are charging, you should charge less than them for better result.

I would definitely, take a look around at the other lancer sites and see their rates and then decide on what you charge. As mentioned, charging a little lower than the competition and providing better service can be a nice entry into the market.

check your competitor and charge fees less then them for batter result
    you can also charge
fix fees of 1-2$ and a percent(%) of successful transaction
don't forget you are entering this market so provide good service with less charge

    just my 2 words

I only have a problem with your fourth idea because if anything you are going to get people frustrated with you. You should try a method like Fiverr where all contact has to be through your website. Percentages are not a bad idea if you are talking big money (of course this is a big reason people hate Paypal).

You could also try out a membership system! I would do a monthly subscription fee allows you to view client's contact info and they have no other fees for that month. The main problem I see with you allowing them to see your client's contact info you will not have any returning customers because you are the middleman...meeting freelancers with the consumer. Also with a membership system you could allow them to gain points everytime they use a freelancer and then they get a percentage off after they have worked with freelancers X amount of times. That would be another incentive for someone to sign up with a membership

I hope I gave you some ideas ^_^

    Thanks

I based the forth option in language-school-teachers.com. I think you have a better idea. But my concern is: Does people really want to pay a monthly subscription even though they seldom use the service?

Can you further elaborate what types of points/incentives would be a better option and how this works? I haven't tried running any membership sites and I know there are lots of wp plugin for this but I really wanted to build a custom site from scratch..

I am also planning to have an internal escrow system as optional feature with paypal only. Based on my experience, there are lots of feelancers who left unpaid because of scam employers. Freelancers and employers will feel a little comfortable if the site has an escrow system.
