Low index rank on Google, High content?

Hi,

I have a website for a business I work for. On Google for the main search phrase which I don't want to go into, my content pages rank higher than my index page.

The index page is a static age gate(not porn, alcohol) so there is no update to any content here, I legally can't put content here.

Any thoughts? Would I be better off making all the content pages crawl-able but not indexable by Google bot?

Many Thanks

D1cee

    What is your question?

Google ranks pages - so if you want your index page to rank higher - get more links to it than the internal pages have, or revise the content to be more targeted for the term.

Having your inner pages ranking higher than your home page for your keywords is actually a good thing. Your plan:

    1. Make those inner pages good LANDING PAGES (search for that term, learn what the concept means)
    2. Aim one inner page for one keyword/keyphrase, build them to give the visitors what they came looking for, always building a different page for a different set of keywords
    3. ...
    4. Profit!
Why bother trying to bring people directly to a homepage that you can't modify? If they are already coming to an inner page, take advantage of that! The point here is to get good targeted traffic, and you already have that! Congratulations! Now, don't do anything stupid like making those inner pages no-index...

Ok, I get what you're saying however I would prefer users to go via the index page for the age gate, also I always thought it looked smarter to have the index page at the top.
