Difficult Decision...Should I Put My Product on Clickbank

Okay, so I've been reading quite a bit about how many vendors and publishers are making with Clickbank.

The majority of my revenue comes from my own workbooks that I sell via. Amazon.com. My workbooks are taken up in video lessons on my site.

I am highly interested in selling my workbooks as ebooks via. Clickbank. It seems that this might be a good business model for me.

I do have one concern though...don't I face the risk of someone re-publishing my ebooks (a.k.a. my workbooks) throughout the internet? What if someone distributes my workbooks and/or worksheets online and people can get them for free?

Is there a way to prevent this?

Thanks

    No absolutely reliable way.

There are many different ways of deterring it, and reducing the chances of its happening - and of course those are very well worthwhile: don't let the impossibility of "100% security" make you imagine that the 97% or 98% you can easily protect against isn't worth bothering with. It is worth bothering with: it can make the difference between making a living and not making a living.

One fairly good way, which won't cause problems, delays, expense, irritation to customers or any of the other problems so often associated with "product security", is to use e-Junkie in conjunction with ClickBank (this is part of e-Junkie's set-up) so that you can have the buyer's transaction-details stamped on each page of the PDF before they download it. It's not "guaranteed security" but it's quite good protection against most content thieves. People won't be able to re-sell it, or to upload it to any torrent or file-sharing sites, without removing that first, which a determined person can do but I think it isn't easy for them at all.

The mistake to avoid, I think, is to protect only the download page and not the product itself. This makes little sense to me.

If people do still steal your work, you do have some legal remedies available, too, but many people find those too inconvenient and/or expensive (depending on the circumstances).

I would say focus more on getting sales than on deterring pirates.

The former expands your income while the latter limits your income to what you have.

Yes, as digital merchants online, we face the risk of people republishing our products daily.
The easier you make it for someone to upload a file and share it, the more likely someone will.

No, There is really no way to prevent this other than streaming your content via video etc as opposed to delivering downloadable files such as PDF's etc, however, there seems to be some debate regarding consumers complaining that they should have the right to have a product on their hard drive, as opposed to having to log in somewhere to view their course, etc.

There are some products and services out there that allow you to protect your download page in order to make it more difficult for someone to "break in an steal/share your products", as opposed to paying for it, however, this does not prevent someone from purchasing your product once, and passing it on to thousands, who may do the same.

However, do not let any of this deter you from your initial plan to sell your products on Clickbank, as the rewards far out way the risks.

I know this to be fact

The more people that buy the product, the higher the chance of it being shared for free.

    It's inevitable... unfortunately.

Amazon is an excellent distribution channel for your work. Good move on getting your work into that channel.

    Now, onto ClickBank...

The lure of ClickBank is not so much distribution but promotion. The plan here should be to maximize promotion of your product, which will in turn, augment your distribution, and more importantly, sales.

This is the nature of a downloadable product. Its part of the "cost" of doing business online with an easily accessible, downloadable product.

One way that you can maximize legitimate downloads and usage is to encourage or offer some means of support or value add on for legitimate purchases of your ebook so that users register and become part of your "community" of users, not just consumers of your information.

Thanks for the input everyone. It seems as if the rewards outweigh the risks.

I'll definitely look into this as a serious option for me.
