Aweber Query Confirm or Not to Confirm

Hi There,

I have an Aweber account with very few leads in it just now. But the few leads I have three of them have not confirmed in. This is all part of the:
Require Opt-In on Web Forms We strongly recommend leaving confirmed opt-in ON.

Tell me, Anyone who builds lists on a regular bases tell me. Do I really need to get my leads to double confirm from an email confirmation???

    Without a double email opt-in, you risk keeping bad email addresses on your list.

    Iain - I don't personally use double optin any more. BUT, I am very careful to not over-promote or piss off my lists. If you're going to be aggressive, I would use the confirmed optin.

    Personally, I have always kept it turned off.

    I figure, if a person is signing up through a squeeze page, they well know that they will be getting an e-mail from me.

    That being said, I have yet to receive unusually high spam complaints or any other issues brought upon from Aweber.

    I use double opt-in or my IM lists. I tend to focus on quality rather
    than quantity.

    Single opt-in can be a better option sometimes though. You pick.

    I have done numerous studies on this and even wrote a whitepaper on it for the exec's at my company. Our ultimate decision and the decision of many was to NOT do double opt-in. We chose this method to reduce friction and increase signups. It worked and our list is quality driven.

    I also answered this question previously on the warrior forum and cited all of the articles when I did my research. The research states - single opt-in works best.

    You can switch it "on" based on your goal(s) for your list(s). Confirmed opt-ins are somewhat better qualified as they've taken the additional step to receive your info. However, you'll actually get more subscribers if you just use single-opt-in (non-confirmed). Just be aware that Aweber has a policy that once you turn that "on" in your account - you can't turn it back "off" again.

      I think it's after you have some people getting the follow up emails from the list.

        Nope ... it's nothing to do with that, at all.

        People who have caused problems for Aweber in the past (e.g. over spam complaints) have had their ability to turn off the confirmation (i.e. to use single opt-in) disabled at account level, so that it no longer appears for them as an option at list level - that's all it is.

    It depends on what you are selling. I turn it on when I have people who actually subscribe to my newsletters on my website, but I turn it off for mass untargeted traffic. But that has worked for me personally.
