Hi...I'm new and have a couple of noob questions...

Hi all!!! New member and very first post!

I was reading the article below and found it quite interesting. I think I would like to try this but as I am not an internet marketer nor can I write HTML...I was wondering...

1. What is an email capture form on a homepage? And where would I get such a code? And would I just copy and paste the code where they want it on the homepage...is that how it would work? (I know what a homepage is)

2. Also...how would I set their site up with an autoresponder and do I put the return email "message" in the autoresponder account?

3. And lastly, do all you wise and experienced souls here generally think this could be a good idea overall to try?

Thanks so much for your patience with all my silly questions. I know..."what a noob"! Lol....

Here's the article just for reference for anyone interested. Thanks for your replies in advance...take care...

I hope I posted this in the right place.

This Is Very Easy To Do And Can Generate At Least $1,000-$1,500 Within The Next Few Days!

From the Desk of David Preston:
Hi Fellow Internet Marketer,
I was recently approached at an event I was speaking at and asked,
"How can I generate some quick cash? Is there an honest way of
doing that?"

When I explained this method-everybody started writing, so I thought
I would share it with my fellow warriors.

I named this: "A Stupidly Simple Cash Cow" or how to generate emergency money NOW!
Start this today and I'm sure it will carry you through the holiday crunch.
1. Look up local businesses in your Phone book
2. Write down the names of the businesses (25-30 is all you need to start)
3. Look the businesses up on the internet to see if they have a website.
4. If they have a website, check to see if they have an email capture form on their homepage.
If they don't, you're in business!
5. When you have about 25-30 "prospects" send them this letter:
************************************************** *
Mr./Ms. ___________

My name is ______________ and I am a local e-commerce
business consultant.

I know your time is valuable, as is mine so I'll get right to the
point. If I could show you an unused asset that you ALREADY
have that could make you thousands of dollars, would you be
willing to speak with me for 15 minutes?

This free consultation can save you as much as 50% of your
entire monthly advertising budget AND bring you brand new
customers at the same time! The best part is that you already
have it, so the cost to implement this marketing weapon is
minimal.

Please call me at (your number) at your earliest convenience to
schedule a free "no strings" consultation. I promise you, it will be
worth your time.

Yours in business,
Your name
Contact info
************************************************** ***

The "unused asset" they have is of course their website which has no list building capabilities.
By building a proper customer email list they can cut their advertising dollars at least in half, so they can just send a customer email blast about an upcoming sale instead of paying $4,000 for a full page ad.
6. Get a "Confidential" stamp from Staples or an office supplies store and stamp the front of the envelop (this will triple the likelihood the business owner will open your letter)
DO NOT mass mail that letter! You
really only need to mail 25-30 per
week and you'll be busy.

7. That's it! Believe me when I say that your phone will ring off the hook.
8. Now that you have the clients calling you, you'll simply setup a time to meet over the phone.
9. During your meeting ask the business owner questions about their business, what their advertising costs are, and what their return on investment is from their ads.
Note: 90% of business owners have no clue on how effective their advertising is...many just laugh when you ask the question!
A great opening line to make them feel comfortable giving you this information is to say,
"John, in order for me to help you I need you to help me."
Then, start asking about their business.
After you listen to their story, tell them about the cost-effectiveness of email advertising. Being able to advertise to all your customers with the click of a button will sound VERY appealing.
Tell them that you can spend a couple hours with them going through how to set everything up.
(Hint) - get a little technical here...your objective is for them to say, "I don't have that much time...how much for you to do it?"
An easy way to do this is just to say, "John, it'll only take a couple of hours. Just a little HTML and email copy..."
Customer: "HTML? email copy? uh...How much?"
The fact is, most business owners don't have the time to learn something, nor do they even understand what HTML or an email autoresponder means.
Believe me, even if they ask you to show them their eyes will glaze over after a few minutes and they'll ask, "How much?"
10. If they bite (and most will), tell them you can setup everything for $250 - $500 (choose your price point) and have it ready to go by tomorrow.
11. Before you walk out with your check, change their cash register and credit card terminal receipt to read,
"For Preferred Customer Discounts Sign Up At: (their website)"
There is a toll free number on the side of every register and terminal for support.
Just call them and they will walk you through changing it. It only takes about 10 minutes.
12. After you leave, go home and setup an auto-responder account for them.
Note: Aweber .com and GetResponse .com are great auto-responder compaines. If your customer wants you to manage their list (most do) then you can just set up a new email list on your account and charge them a monthly fee for maintenance.
If they want to manage their own auto-responder sign them up through your affiliate link (monthly, residual income!)
13. Copy the email form code from your account and paste it on their existing site! That's it!
Here's how I do it:
I usually visit their site, right click and select "view source" and save it in notepad.
Then I open the notepad in an html editor and simply copy and paste the code where the email form goes.
I use Trellian pagebuilder, which is free and allows me to preview the finished site.
Then, send it to their programmer and they can swap it.
Done!
Note: If you don't want to learn how to do it yourself you can outsource the work for pennies on the dollar via Elance.com, Freelance.com, the Warrior Forum, etc.
---------------
Note: There are a lot of upsells you can do with this, but here's the most common...
I usually get a question from the owner on,
"who is going to write the emails"
Now you've got a monthly residual income...simply outsource the creation of the emails (or write them yourself) and you've built a monthly, recurring income.
---
I've just shared a tested, proven method to generate some serious emergency money FAST!
And it's very easy to generate 4, 5 or even 6 deals
per week this way.

Just copy and paste the direct mail letter and get to work.

YOU can do this!
I told you it was stupidly simple!
...and it works because it really is helping them, and that's what it's all about.
Make it a great marketing day,
David Preston

  • Ohh... This is in regards to the cash cow. You should edit your title to include cash cow, and you will probably get some offliners in here to give you inforormatio.

In the meantime - To get an email form on the homepage you simple use the code that aweber gives you. Aweber is the autoresponder that you use to set up the email marketing.

You could also use the lightbox method which has been discussed.

Those are the basic answers to your questions. You seem really new to this. Are you?

    Hi John,
welcome to the forum - I think you'll find this a great place, and it is the correct place to ask appropriate questions.

First I'd recommend taking a moment to familiarize yourself with the search function available on the forum - a great tool sometimes. Plug in Autoresponder and you'll find a lot of material out there.

Next, The opt-in form, or sign up form, is typically generated by your autoresponder service or program. You can use a service such as Aweber, GetResponse, iContact (my personal choice), constantcontact, and a myriad of others. Again search on those companies and visit their sites for more information.

You would take this code and place into your site's homepage - or any page where you want to capture a visitor's contact information.

If you don't know how to do that, its not too hard and some of the above services have support desks to help out. I would not recommend putting this on them, but instead practice on your own account. Also, many of the above providers also have a wealth or online training to help you along.

Then within the service is where you configure you're responses - either a direct email after they sign up, or typically a confirmation request - which implements whats called double opt in.

After the confirmation is when you can start an autoresponder sequence. This is a sequence of emails you send out. Their content is up to you, your customer, and depends on your goals - getting people into a brick and mortar shop, or getting them to purchase a product or service online.

Again, its hard to get into specifics because there are entire ebooks, videos, courses, programs, and even threads within this forum on autoresponders, email marketing, etc.

    Good luck with your endeavors!

    best,
    --Jack

I don't mean to be harsh, but if you aren't yet familiar with how to set up an autoresponder, you'll probably want to spend some time setting them up on your own before you approach offline business people as an ecommerce consultant. Sign up for an account with Aweber, mess around with your account and practice setting it up on your own sites. Legitimate business people are going to want to see proof of what you're offering, so you'll probably do best using this method if you can show them a portfolio of the lists you've built and what those lists have generated in terms of sales or other actions. If you go into this business without the proper background, you do a huge disservice to real ecommerce experts who actually have something of value to offer offline businesses.

Thanks for all the advice. And yes, I am very, very new to this. It seems interesting though. And I understand the concern over me possibly doing a disservice to those professionals who actually know what they're doing.

I will study up and walk lightly...I promise.

Hmmm...so into further research on the subject, I'm finding myself wondering what the sales increase numbers might be from an automatic mailing list. Or if it improves sales at all? I could bs them with garbage numbers and show them an "example" website as to what the business is getting from my services (ie. autoresponder mailouts) but hard numbers are difficult to come by without real world proof and experience. Hmmmm...bs'ing clientele is not "walking lightly" and smacks of dishonesty. But, if the list and emails did attract repeat customer patronage and that was transfered to the cash register and displayed as higher cash sales at the till...then that would be great for residual income on my side. If not, I'm kinda running a confidence game of some sort for a short haul profit. Either way...I make good money as long as I'm a good actor. A bit of a moral dilemma forming. Unless, I just tell them I'm offering them a mailing list service to boost sales, but don't take responsibility for whether or not those sales numbers increase...

Oh...and thanks for the warm welcomes!!!!

        Welcome, JohnnyO.

Now, I'm not telling you what to do, or how to do it. But, I believe it would help me and, possibly, some others, if, instead of sharing a bulk portion of your internal dialogue, you just made an effort to distill your thoughts down to one or two of the most pressing/pertinent questions.

        Best wishes for your success,
        Eric

Okay, I need to explain to customers why an email list will boost their sales and by some sort of percentage.

I would love to see some web sites (ie. email list subscribed real "on the street' businesses) with wonderful numbers that back up brick and mortar sales.

Because I think I have the dynamics as a salesman to blast this little idea into fruition...I just need to know that I'm not really trying to rip them off.

I guess, in the end, I really want to know if I am going to help their business or not.

Anyone have hard numbers or research on this subject, by any chance?
