Website Building Program??

Hello Everyone,

I'm a complete newbie attempting to open an online store selling maybe a few hundred items. Now I could hire someone to build a site for me but I really would like to learn how to do it myself. Unfortunately I can't just take off from work for a few months and learn how to code and what not.

Are there any software programs that you could recommend that are drag and dropped based that are somewhat easy for a person like myself to create a professional site with shopping cart and all? I tried out Xsitepro and it really doesn't seem to be geared towards an online ecommerce business. I'm looking into WebPlus X6 but it appears to only use three types of shopping carts: Paypal, Mals, and Roman Cart. I'm trying to stay away from Paypal if possible because it's a hassle for the customer if they don't have an account. I'd rather just have them put their CC info in and buy the item. Does anyone have any experience with Webplus that could give me some advice? Or maybe there's another program out there for a novice like myself. It seems like Wordpress is a favorite around here but it might take me way to much time to learn and I need good results without having a years worth of practice if you know what I mean. Remember I have no experience at all. Thanks in advance.

    Use Wordpress.

It is an open source website software that you load onto your domain and configure through a very flexible CMS.

As it is open source there are millions of plugins available for it and you can generate any time of site you like. There are dedicated e-commerce plugins that allow you to set up your entire online store, manage payments, customer service tickets, and much more.

Remember, you want wordpress.org not wordpress.com

    Cheers,
    Dave

Thanks Dave. Will wordpress be difficult for someone like myself who knows literally nothing about building websites, html, etc?

How big are you thinking about going? Are you just going to have a few products, hundreds or thousands? There's a huge selection of options out there & you'll want to make a choice based on your actual requirements vs. what people are just going to shout out for you to use.

Do you want to be able to upload a feed to a comparison shopping engine? Do you want to be able to automatically integrate eBay? There is a ton of options out there for you & a lot of times something like a shopping cart plugin for WordPress just isn't going to cut it.

Hardinflash-I'm just talking about a small store with under 100 products.

I used to work for a mid sized eCommerce business & we used some software called channeladvisor. Handled all the inventory, payments via PP & our CC processor. It also enabled us to simply upload a feed to Google's shopping engine as well as other shopping engines. Not to mention handle all the eBay stuff as well.

You might want to look into one of those all in one things, there's more out there than just Channeladvisor but it really makes life a lot easier when your sales start racking up & you need to keep track of everything.

Use Wordpress on a self-hosted domain and purchase the ShopperPress theme. Search for a discount coupon before purchasing. You can have a foundation for an ecommerce site up and running in five minutes. After your hosting account is set up of course.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.
