Pdf in html format..

Misako here with a very technical question. I have just created an ebook to be given away for free as an gift. I intend to place 2-3 affiliate links (cj.com), which are usually in html or javascript format. Problem is, the pdf ebook can't seem to read html nor javascript, so the links don't work. But i know it is possible, since i have seen ebooks with html formated widgets before..I would be grateful if any warrior could help me with this.

Hi Misako,

Is your objective merely to have clickable links in your PDF?

What are you using to compile your PDF?

You can certaily have links within a PDF that look however you want and are fully functional as they would be on a regular web page.

Hi Misako,

You can insert hyperlinks into your PDF. However, you cannot insert HTML.

All a hyperlink really consists of is the URL and the link text. It isn't really HTML.

For your situation, what you can do is insert in the PDF a hyperlink to a redirect page. To do this, you'll create a redirect file on your server and then insert its URL as the hyperlink in your PDF. The redirect page contains the HTML or Javascript for the affiliate link.

Hi,

It depends on the type of software you are using to create your PDF. Some do not allow anchor text links, but others do. Sorry I can't help you in that regard as I use the free PDF995 software and if it does allow it, I haven't tried it or looked for it yet.

You could try signing up at Adobe to create a PDF from their online software. If I'm not mistaken, I think they offer a version that allows you to set your links however you wish. They have a trial offer you can use for your first 10 tries, but then you have to pay.

Somewhere on the Forum this question was asked and answered with software that DOES allow your type of links. Run a search for pdf creation software.

You might want to have a closer look at whatever you are using to create your PDFs. I have a program called InDesign by Adobe (page creation, graphic design software). It allows you to make anchor text links before converting the file to PDF, but you have to go in and set all your links first. It was confusing initially and the feature was not easy to find. Perhaps your program has something similar that you must do first.

If you're looking for software to create the PDF, I highly recommend downloading Open Office. It will read and write Microsoft Word documents, and also has the option to "Save As... Pdf".

And the price is right... $0

I'm not quite sure if this is the type of answer you're looking for, but I recently created
a book as well, and the links that I had in the Word file, did not automatically get added
into the PDF.

( Assuming you're using Adobe Acrobat )

Once your book is in PDF format, you can highlight specific text, Right Click, and click Create Link.

You'll have different options for the type of link you want to create, select Invisible Rectangle,
The color for the link, Select Open a Webpage, click Next, and enter the URL.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for... Hope that helps.

Its going to all depend on what software your using before you transfer it to a pdf file.

I noticed some will only allow you to have it as http://www.yoursite.com ...for it to be linkable

and when you turn it into an anchor text link like 'CLICK HERE" or it won't work, so do some experimentation.

If your using like word document and then printing using the WarriorPrinter then I believe it only works as http://www.yoursite.com . Let us know your results..

Hi..not at the moment, but getting closer. I guess maybe theres a html.exe executable which could convert html to pdf.

I have never seen it done in a pdf file but the e books that are in exe format i believe can do it like the one's created with eBook edit pro.

It's another option.

About cj.com affiliate links.
It seems to me that you don't need to use the complete html code they provide if you want to create an affiliate link in a pdf.
You can use only the URL to the site without using also the image link, used for more extensive tracking.

One way is to take the html/java script link and use a link cloaker/reditect page to host this link. Then just use the url of this link to direct your links from with in the e book.

here is the coding to create a cloaked link.

Just insert your cj html/java link between the two "

Save as a html page upload it then direct the traffic from your ebook to this link.

I use eWriterPro to protect my eBook in pdf an example is in my sig of a protected e book. You can password protect, allow of disallow printing.

I think misako want dynamic images in her e books not the static one. But i wonder if a gif image would work just a thought...

PDF995 is free forever and it includes a pdf printer. You download it to your computer to use it. The only drawback to the free version is the ads windows that come up while you're creating your PDF - BUT they do NOT put ads into your pdfs, in case you were wondering. If you don't use it often, the free version is sufficient. If the ads bug you, I think the up grade is $29. one time, I think. As I said, you don't need to upgrade to use it.

pdf 995: create PDF documents easily for free The software is easy to use. Just set your default printer to pdf995 when you get it installed. Pdf995 also adds its toolbar to Word if you want it to.

I've been using pdf995 for years without a problem.

The only thing I haven't looked at yet is whether you can do anchor text links in that software. There are some options and I'm pretty sure I saw one somewhere for doing this.

Hope you figure it out and that it does what you want it to do.

Try PDF Creator from sourceforge
non affiliate link- SourceForge.net: PDFCreator

This will allow you to make pdf files from any web page, and the links in the usual www etc format are clickable. Text links are not.

This program adds a toolbar to your browser for both IE and Firefox. It is very stable and fast.
No spyware or adware.
This program is very easy to use.

Hi All,

I've used PDF995 for years and it is very good for certain things like instantly saving a webpage in PDF format, Saving online receipts etc.

However for creating eBooks with text links OpenOffice can't be beat. What a lot of people don't know or at least they don't use it is that all of the open office programs will convert to PDF. You can make some very "different" looking eBooks with the draw program, the Math program, etc.

However, back to the topic, text links are hard to create with pdf995 and more than easy to create with OpenOffice.

I always write with MS Word, save it, open it with OpenOffice and create the pdf. This preserves the table of contents links created in MS Word and preserves all of the text links.

  I finally got around to testing the PDF995 program I recommended for creating text links - and
  
  YES... you can turn any text into a clickable web link with this program. I'm glad I checked this out at last because now I know I can do this.
  
  Personally, I love PDF995 (except for those darned sponsor ads - but they're easy to eliminate if you pay a measly one-time $29.95 (but I'm cheap . If I used it more, I would certainly pay the fee.)
  
  Also important to note that PDF995 does NOT contain any spyware. And, it IS easy to use. Does not work with OPenOffice, though, but it does with Word.
  
  It's possible other programs have a simpler method for creating text links. PDF995 gives you a window where you enter the text you want to link, and the URL. So you'd have to remember what text within your document that you want to convert. This makes it a little cumbersome but how many anchor texts will you generally add to a document anyway? So for instance, if you used the keyword 'wealth building', when you do the link, every incidence where that keyword exists in your document would be converted to a hyperlink.

  For anyone else who might want to use PDF995, I just got a question from a Warrior about doing the text links. Apparently, he was only getting the first word of a 3-word phrase linked when he tried to use this feature.
  
  The solution is that you have to hyperlink your keyword phrases in your Word document first before turning it into a PDF using PDF995. That turns all the links you created there into live links in your final PDF document.
