Facebook Likes decreasing and not indicated in stats?

Hi, My clients facebook page has lost likes but this hasnt been reported in the facebook insights. It was on 2200+ and suddenly a day later its at 1800+. We did give the page an initial boost with purchased likes.

Anybody seen this happen before?

Seriously? What do you expect if you purchased likes? They're not real, are they? If they are, I would be far more worried about the content being shared on the page above everything else. Stop buying "likes" it will harm your fanpage in the long run.

We only bought the likes to get enough to initially claim the name. Its been organic since. I don't see how the likes could disappear without their being anything reported in the stats ie unlikes etc

Do the "likes" make your client feel happy?

No mystery here at all: the bought spam accounts were probably found and shut down by Facebook. What, you didn't believe the Sales Copy when it said "real human likes" did you?

lol not for a second. I thought that was the most logical reason, but I wanted to get another opinion on the matter. I think I'll do some facebook ads to replace what they've lost.

The purchased likes probably disappeared, that's the most likely reason.

Cheers Tony. I've already been in touch with the client to confirm that the easiest way to sort it out is to replace the missing likes with facebook ads. I dont really want egg on my face.

one could successfully argue that by buying fake likes in the first place (and knowingly too), you've already accomplished the very thing you're trying to avoid.

        Just sayin'.

For the paid likes, you probably know the answer, but for organic likes, some could have just lost their interest with your page and simply pressed "unlike".. The engagement with your fans could have been too little or too much, both would just trigger the same thing "unlike"...

They had the artists tweets going through to facebook too which I think was overkill cause they wanted it to pull all his tweets instead of doing selective tweets. Strange thing is, regardless of whether bought or not, the facebook insights don't report any large decrease in fans.

This could have been the issue, an overkill. I'm not sure what happened to the report, but do you have an FB admin that is dedicated to update your site and keep interaction with your followers? If you have one dedicated on your page, he could have easily saw drop on your likes.

I have been added as an Admin level account to the page and their is no report of likes decreasing, over the past 3 months they've been losing maybe 1-2 a week if that.

They recently purchased likes by recommending his page via Facebook ads, this increase it and then this sudden drop.

I know one artist that is successful in having likes and engaging the fans... I know that his page is moderated by an admin but he posts there too to interact with his followers. I saw one time he made a contest where in he gave away premium items with his autograph and concert tickets and sometimes even a fan sign. The contest was to have the most number of common friends that also "liked" the artist's page. They simply will send a screen shot o their account where their name and common friends are visible. This was a successful campaign since the prize were just shirts. I saw the top place had more than 900 friends who liked the page artist's page. This is just one technique, I have seen others that did different types of contests to amp their likes. I guess the best technique is to never stop encouraging people to like your page, even organic likes can just lose interest in the process. I don't have any idea of reports so sorry I can't help you with that, I guess you can just keep track of it manually I you can't find a report or anything that could give you instant alerts.

We have been looking at methods similar to this. We've found getting people to commit to his page at events to work really well. Interestingly, the artist performed at a university and the labels employees were giving away free cup cakes in exchange for likes which overall isnt a bad expense when you consider they bought a large batch of cup cakes.

Lol cool idea, I've never thought of using cupcakes though.. I hope you get good results from the techniques you used and keep me posted on which technique gave you the best result.

If you want to get more likes, you should constantly use sites that exchange likes for facebook. One site that goes into my mind is youlikehits

Thanks for sharing. It is a possibility but the client has been doing well building naturally, the 95% of the likes are what they have built. I don't want them to lose more likes later on as many of the facebook accounts on youlikehits and addmefast et al are bots.

Just a tip that has worked well for the clients. They have been taking ipads to the artists gigs and getting people to physically like his page right there and then
