Help with Kindle Ebook

I'm thinking about publishing a kindle ebook. I have a couple of good topics to write about. However, I'm not really good(never tried) at writing ebooks.

Is it difficult to get ebooks approved for kindle? What if the ebook is less than 10 pages? Is it worth listing?

I recently lost 20 pounds in 8 weeks, naturally and I'd like to share my step by step process in an ebook.

I've also found a way to earn $1200 per month on squidoo. I was thinking about making an ebook for that as well or maybe a video WSO with the step by step process.

I don't know where to really begin.

I guess I'm asking if someone could show me where to go to begin writing my ebook, should I download special software for writing it?

It's fairly easy to publish on Kindle. Sounds like you're going to be writing articles or reports and not really book-length content. Less than 10 pages would be considered a long article and some people are selling articles. Most charge 99 cents for those.

There are no restrictions from Amazon as to length of your book. The main thing is that your content is 100% original and unique to you. If you don't feel comfortable creating content yourself, your other option is to outsource the writing to a quality content writer. You would then be responsible for formatting, publishing and getting a cover made (you can get covers designed for you on fiverr or here on WF).

As for getting started, there are a few good Kindle courses in the WSO section you may want to check out. Many like Geoff Shaw's course, but there are others that may suit your situation.

    Congratulations on your weight loss.

Is it not as long as your work is:
    Original
    Properly formatted
    Make sense
    Readable and understandable

This is really good idea but I would suggest that hire any content writer that is specialist in writing ebook for the niche you want.

    Hi Bill,

I just read your post and thought I maybe of some help to you. In my experience, you can write an article or a book and it doesn't matter what the length is as long as the information is really good...

It sounds like both your topics could do well. I suggest you just start writing and get your information down in a word doc or something similar, then you can go back and correct, add or change what you want. DON'T get hung up on making it perfect just start writing...

When I write a How To book I try and word it like I'm talking to the reader as if they are sitting right next to me... This has worked well for me and I'm sure will work well for you.

As for a publishing to Amazon, I just listed my free book and videos for download in the War Room. I see you are a War Room member so you can get that information free if you wish. I don't know if I can put a link in here so I'll just give you the title:

FREE War Room Gift [No Opt-in] How to Self-Publish Your Book to Amazon Kindle Step by Step Guide

If you have any questions please let me know.

    Good Luck!

    I would do it.

The thing is pricing versus volume.

Selling outside of Kindle, you could charge more for your book.

Selling inside of Kindle, you will likely be able to sell more copies.

In Kindle, length does not matter. As with anything, the value of a product is decided by the value that is given to the customer.

I suspect a lot of people would be excited to learn your technique for losing weight.

I would advise however to make darn sure that you put appropriate disclaimers in your book to indicate that "this is only your personal experience, and you are making no claims as to what others will accomplish following your guidance." Further, you will want to advise your readers to "check with their medical doctor, before undertaking any procedure to drop weight."

Be especially careful when you are dealing with information related to a person's health.

Does Amazon have any kind of restriction that would disallow him to sell his book both within Amazon (for Kindle) and outside of Amazon for a higher price?

Not unless he is enrolled in KDP Select.

Under the KDP Select program, he is guaranteeing Amazon exclusivity for a period of at least 90 days.

There are two other considerations that should also be taken into account.

        1. If available elsewhere online, Amazon must be guaranteed the lowest possible price for which the item can be sold. The lowest price at which you can sell a book on Kindle is $0.99.

        2. If the book gets black-hatted and it is available anywhere online for free, when Amazon discovers the availability of that title elsewhere for free, they will mark the price on Amazon to free also.

The only concern I have about selling a particular title outside of the online bookstores (Amazon, Pubit - B&N, iBooks, Lulu, etc) is the black-hatters.

To avoid potential problems there, I will put one version on Amazon Kindle, and a similar but different version at a higher price elsewhere. I will not sell the exact same thing inside and outside of the online bookstores.

      They can. Most don't.

Although I write a lot of articles of around 1000 words, I try to make my Kindle titles in the 5 to 10,000 word range - minimum.

    For kindle ebooks:

    - Your content should be original
    - You can write book in any size. There may be 10 pages but you can also write book with 10,000 pages.
    - You require MS Word or simply notepad to write ebooks for kindle, But after that, special and proper formatting of your book would be required. You have to make a .MOBI (HTML compiled) file to publish book to kindle.

Yeah it's easy enough to publish and get approved. Actual selling is a different story though

I have been publishing on Kindle for some time and I never realized that you could even publish articles on there. Live and learn. I was aware of writing what they call shorts. These short stories have to be over 5000 words I think and have to be reviewed before being published.
