Using Linked to Get More than $5,000 in Sales in 2 Weeks

Recently I launched a course on building an app business based on my success being an app entrepreneur for the last 3 years.

Before I launched the course, I wanted to make sure that this course really had sufficient demand in the market and that all the effort I was putting in developing the course was not going to go waste.

My Linkedin Strategy

So I decided to run a quick test to verify my assumptions about the demand for the course.

1. I decided to first keep the course free and share the information about the course on Linkedin. I already had a couple of potential types of users in mind for this course. I assumed that app developers, entrepreneurs and internet marketers would like this course. So I joined many groups for these people and started sharing information about my free course.

2. I knew that for the course to get a good amount of visibility, it had to be on the top of the active discussions page and when a weekly/daily digest is sent out by linked in, the course discussing needed to be listed under the "Still Active Discussions" section of the Linkedin digest emails.

3. So my plan was simple:

- create a dummy user on linkedin and buy contacts for the user on fiverr.com. Once you have a good number of contacts for your dummy user, you can easily get in to a majority groups without having to get approved.

- Go to the discussion page of your course and add comments as the dummy user.

- Reply to the comments of the dummy user

4. I could do this as often as I wanted, but it was important that I added comments on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday nights because I noted that a lot of groups sent their digests on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

So based on this test here were the findings:

App developers didn't care about this course. They seemed to live in their happy world where they continued developing apps hoping that they will become rich without any marketing involved.

Entrepreneurs were super interested and so were internet marketers.
Among the free signups about 50% were entrepreneurs and the rest were internet marketers (I searched for each person's Linkedin profile).

**How I made the money**
So once I got a good idea about the types of users who were most interested in this course. I continued to try to keep my posting about the course on the front page of the discussions in the groups frequented by entrepreneurs and Internet marketers. I just made sure that I increased the price of my course to $99.

Within about 1.5 weeks I had about 55 subscribers who bought the course.

So that basically meant more than $5,000 in revenues within 2 weeks of running the test.

**Next Steps**
I am looking at trying out Google adwords to see if Google adwords can be a viable source of customers.

Google Adwords it is indeed a viable of source of quality visitors. That is what most of the internet marketers are using. Second would be facebook and third would be bing/yahoo.

Today I had some more success with Linkedin. I usually don't expect Linkedin to convert well because the Linkedin discussion groups are full of spam.

So what I did this time is to contact one of the moderators of the linkedin group which has been sending me a lot of traffic and then offered him a revenue share.

For every sale I make thanks to his group, I offer him a 40% cut. He has agreed to the deal and he will be making my blog post the manager's choice for a month.

So let's see if that helps me get some more sales.

Anyanna, The idea presented is to identify the types of users you will get to sign up for a free "something". If a large portion are quality buyers then you have a good market. Entreprenuers and iternet marketers are a pretty good customer base. If you identify the users as good customers....any niche should work great. Remember the idea is to fill a need...more money, good health, success...etc.

As long as you have the budget for it, AdWords is one great way to gain instant traffic to your app course. Let me know how you make out with it.
