WTF!!! Tracking conversions from multiple sources that lead to one page.

Im a pretty tech savvy guy, and because of that when i do hit a wall its almost something thats just impossible (to me)..

But may my trusted warrior forum friends can help...

I'll explain my situation as best as i can.

I need help tracking specific links from multiple sources that lead to one conversion page.

i have a blog that follows this path: blog opt-in > confirmation email > download page

I have a squeeze page that follows this path: squeeze page opt in > confirmation email > download page.

I use a combination of paid traffic and article distribution (syndication). so i have to include sub-id's on each link so that i will know exactly where the traffic is coming from.

but how will i track which traffic source actually made it from the opt in form to the download page and its conversion rate???

Im thinking about doing this.

For each link that i need to track, create a special link using pretty links to track the hits with that link. then setup goals within google analytics -- but that will only tell me how much of the traffic converted (went on to the download page).. but it doesnt break down which traffic source converted???? does it???

for instance if i send ppc traffic, organic seo, and article traffic..wont it all just say ORGANIC traffic? Where as I need specific details?

What are you all doing to combat this issue..

P.S. I hope this makes sense.

You'll need a tracking system that allows you to place a tracking pixel on your download page for each incoming source.

For example, you'd make separate tracking urls for each referrer. I.E, one for your Adwords, another for your Facebook Ads, your Youtube videos, ect..

Each one would lead the visitor to the same page, but by placing the tracking pixel for each link on your downloads page, you're seeing which sources are actually converting for you. As well as the ratio of clicks to conversions for each source.

I'm pretty sure Prosper202 (free) lets you do this, although I'm not very familiar with it and can't say for sure. I was playing with an install of it on a shared hosting account, but it was really glitchy. It really needs a VPS to work properly.

But I do know LinkTrackr gives you that ability, as well as HyperTracker.

    Hope that helps.

thanks -- i keep hearing about hyper tracker and linktrackr trying to avoid them to get away from more monthly payments but i guess its just apart of the business. I considered prosper202, but i thought it was just to track keywords from ppc sources??I dont know i could be wrong, it might have other uses.

I use Pretty Links Pro for this, but your approach might actually be better. Thank you

        Totally understand you.

I don't remember where I found it, but I got 3 months of LinkTrackr for $7? If I find it I'll send it to you.

And as much as I looked around, Prosper202 is the only free resource that allows you to do this sort of tracking for your links. There's also The Bevo Media Exchange - The Performance Marketing Exchange For Affiliate Marketing, but I've barely done any tinkering with them. Might be worth checking out.

I's actually using PrettyLink Lite at the moment as well. It's a little more work, but I haven't figured out another way for my needs. Here's the way I use it for one of my campaigns.

Since my optin page redirects the visitor directly to a Clickbank offer, the only way I could track conversions would be to contact the actual Clickbank vendor and ask them to place the pixel on their offer page for me.

That's a pain for me, as I'm pretty impatient, and half the time they don't even reply. So what I did was create separate Clickbank affiliate urls, each with a different Sub ID for each one of my traffic sources.

Then I'd cloak each affiliate link in PrettyLink Lite (free WP plugin) to make them look clean, as well as track clicks and to tell them all apart.

Each traffic source would also get it's own Aweber contact form, since you can create multiple ones for the same list. I'd name each contact form accordingly (AdCenter, Adwords, ect..) and place the corresponding PrettyLink in the "Custom Confirmation Page" url.

This also means I'm using a separate landing page for each traffic source; each one with a corresponding Aweber contact form. I do it this way because I have my list set on single opt in, so my confirmation page is the actual clickbank offer.

It seems like a lot of work but it's really not. Just made duplicates of my original landing page in different directories, and copy/pasted the PrettyLinks for each one into the HTML code. It's even easier if your landing page is on Wordpress. Just copy the Aweber (or your own autoresponder) code to each landing page.

I'd rather do all that than to have to bug all the CB vendors to place all my tracking pixels on their page for me.

        Hope all that makes sense.

You could try Adtrackz Gold. It is a one time fee of about $100 and will let you track pretty much whatever you want. Some very successful Warriors on the Forum use it to great effect.

I use LinkTrackr to do this. You can create sub-campaigns on the fly and track actions over multiple steps.

    CPV-Lab can also do it.
