Full Time Internet Marketers: Do you ever get lonely?, what do you do, when you do?

Hi,

I was pondering the whole full time job vs full time IM thing earlier. And I thought that although a full time job arguably gives you less freedom and autonomy, one of the biggest things I feel keeps people in work, is the work relationships, interaction and routine.

On the flip side, a full time internet marketer will have a lot of freedom and autonomy, but will be working alone for long stints of time, sure there will be people to interact with online, but is it the same, and an adaquite replacement for work environment relationships and communication?

My main question was, do you full time Internet marketers get lonely? if and when you do, how do you deal with it, how do you stop yourselves feeling depressed because of it?, and what do you do to motivate yourselves and carry on regardless?

It seems like a topic that isnt discussed all that much on the forum, and just wanted a little insight.

Really looking forward to your replies.

    Great question!

Yes, it can definitely get lonely. Luckily I have a business partner, but even that can get difficult at times. It doesn't help that I live in the Philippines...pretty far from the country of my birth.

Fortunately, I've found other entrepreneurs that are traveling as well and we're able to meet up from time to time...that helps considerably.

    1. Get lots of marketing friends you can call up and talk to anytime you want

    2. Get the heck out of the house and do SOMETHING on a daily basis

    3. Make sure you spend your weekends doing something normal... and not just more internet marketing

      Is that enough though?

Is it enough to replace not having a group of work friends that are always there.

Or do the benefits of working full time for yourself in IM outweigh it anyway?

That's the one thing I miss, my work friends.

        But...

It still beats the crap out of being told what to do all day

Plus my back used to hurt every day and I made multiple times less.

There are more upsides like you don't rely on another business owner to come through so you can get a paycheck. To me that's more risky than having my own business and depending on myself.

go out on the street. preferably to a high traffic mall.
i ask about 20-30 girls for their numbers. I usually have a great conversion rate 6:10 to 8:10. sometimes I go hard and get 10:10
After collecting numbers, I start texting each of them and make them feel special. I usually send same generic texts to everyone, After a day or two of texting I get 4-5 dates and then I go out for drinks most of the time, sometimes coffee, and the sexyy time at night

I find it's kinda similar to building a list, first you capture the lead. then you make them trust you and then you close with the sales .

The funny thing is that it's not a joke.
I usually only do this on weekends and the best season is actually right now, end of the summer. my target market is 18-20 y.o student girls. they don't really have time during school to meet guys so they do as much dating as they can during summer time.

the easiest time is the end of summer cause the less active ones didn't find a boyfriend so they are down for anything right now.

My favorite locations is mall, bus stops ( i call it bus stop pimpin) very easy when you have a nice car and lots of student girls waiting for buses. other locations college dorms - specially the female only dorms.

another great location is at 3 am saturday night outside of nightclubs, the girls who didnt got picked at the club will fall for any guy after the club who ask them out.

one of my favorites, traffic pimpin. when u r stuck in traffic just roll down your window when you see a hot girl and ask for their number, works everytime, have about 9:10 conversion rate on that one. works great on a bit older ladies 30+.

This is definitely not a joke and it saddens me that some marketers believe that. This guy didn't speak a word about the seduction communities but this is exactly what they suggest that people do during bootcamps. Go to malls and ask every attractive girl you see for their #.

I have mentioned countless times the strong relationship between seduction & marketing and very few seem to ever see it (You think Frank Kern met Neil Strauss [expert PUA] by accident? One of the best seducers in the world teamed up with one of the best marketers in the world? Or David DeAngelo who also worked with Frank Kern, John Reese and other well known marketers? These guys hang out together in the real world because they have far more similarities than differences). But before I ever got into marketing I did exactly what this guy does for 4 years straight. I would wake up everday, and me and my local NJ lair would go out approaching girls.

Why? Because it will blow your paradigm to pieces thats why. Seduction is ALL ABOUT social psychology & human behavoir. Marketing formalizes these fields into more of a mathametical type approach. Seduction focuses more on the psychology aspects of things (which imo is the more important part of marketing). Whats surprising is most seducers understand certain aspects of marketing (Like NLP) better than most marketers I've ever met.

Just another reason why I believe seduction helped me SO MUCH in terms of copywriting and speaking to people in general. I already understood how to incorporate NLP in my speech, so converting it to writing wasn't a hard transition for me. I understood some of the more advanced tactics vets were using on this forum, only thanks to seduction. Like the whole "cat string theory" I believe was originally developed by the seduction world. But its now talked about a lot in marketing.

Its probably one of the most consistent theories I use in all my marketing. Take aways, build value, force prospects to qualify, this is all taught in seduction but its taught in real time. In marketing its taugh more of a theoretical concept. You rarely get to see it working in real time.

There is a video on youtube with a guy named "Cajun" in a show called "Keys To The Vip". Any marketers interested in this stuff find that video. All us marketers like talking about "testing" but you have NO IDEA how much testing some of these pick up artists have done. Go find that video and you'll see what I mean. This guy succeeds on 100% of the girls he approaches and does it FAST. At the same time he is on this show picking up girls he's also promoting his business and building his brand.

Here I found it on my own: (6:00 is where Cajun starts but he has 2 awesome approaches in part 2 as well)

(you got to watch part 2 as well!)

Thats why I NEVER just study what marketers are doing, I always study the seduction community too. Their insights into human behavoir will blow your mind. Combining seduction tactics with marketing tactics is a recipe for mass mind control imo. The 2 really compliment each other so well its unbelievable. Plus in that video you can see a clear difference between someone who understands the fundamentals vs someone who doesn't.

      -Red

ps. To actually get back on topic. What I do so I'm not "lonely" is NOT LIVE LIKE A LONER. Its really that simple. If you avoid talking to people, meeting people with similar interests, of course you're going to be a lonely.

I have my brother who I'm with everyday (we work in the same business) when he's not around I have marketing friends, seduction friends, musician friends (I love making music on sundays in my studio) female friends, and thats all I really need in my life to be happy. =]

100% days is great. When I have those I feel like the king of the world.

My goal everyday is to get 100% rule, but some times it does not work out, bus lot of times it does.

One of the keys elements to this game is isolation. try to get 1 number when they are a group of 4-5, there always will be some jealousy and hating that will block the successful number exchange.

I find myself pondering about that same question everyday. A lot of people have told me to forget about university and just go full time internet marketing. I'd make a lot more money and at a considerably shorter time.

While that may be potentially true, not going to university would badly damage my social life, so will I really enjoy my successes of full time internet marketing if there's very little people to share it with? I don't think I want to take that chance.

This is an interesting topic and one that has been on my mind a lot lately. After a certain amount of time working from home it gets rather boring and I dare say depressing. Often real world friends and family don't understand Internet Marketing and how it works leading to more problems.

I just got to the point where I had to do a major reboot since I have been doing this for years I have a lot of family that thinks whenever they need something done while they are at work during the week I am the guy to call. It got so bad I had probably 2-3 leaving the house driving errands to run every weekday because of family requests.

Also it has been fascinating watching my 7 year old grow up because that is all she has ever seen me do. When she was five I heard some ask he what does your daddy do? She said he doesn't work he sits at home on the computer all day.

All that said sometimes it is indeed very lonely when you are at home all alone.

      2) write for another site/FB group (spinoff of the first one)
      3) belong to another forum (spinoff of first one)

I always have someone to talk to, plus I don't ever talk to my friends IRL except on the weekends...

I do not think full time marketers will have any problem like feeling lonely. I know a few
successful ones and they are enjoying life since they do not have to worry about money.

As for the less successful ones and those still quite new to IM , they are too busy working
to achieve their goals to get lonely !

I have a lot of friends named Ben. How can you be lonely when you're counting all your Benjamin's?

Seriously, if you work when you're at your computer, and shut down and go do something else each day, how does one have time to be lonely? I could work all day because I like the career I've created for myself, but I go do other things to have balance in my life. Working from home isn't for everyone, on the other hand, I think most anyone can make it work. If you like what you're doing you may need to examine your daily routine and make adjustments so you can be productive when you work and socialize when you need to. If you don't like what you do, well, why are you doing it?

I think someone else said loneliness is a state of mind, and there's a large measure of truth to that statement.

    Skype.

Or go for a walk in town/at the seafront because just being around people/people watching can have a similar positive effect if one is getting cabin fever.

I also find that being couped up and not moving around in an unnatural environment is not good for creativity or mood, so going outside for a walk is necessary anyway, not just for human contact - and I say this even though I have gone from a small room with no windows originally, to one with huge windows, lots of air, regular birdsong and a sea view - I still need to get out each day away from the screen and the online insanity.

    Hope this helps,

It's just another job that you can earn money more efficiently, which means you have more time with your family and friends. No point feeling lonely especially as DotComBum said, when you see profits coming in you get motivated. But again, you need to have the kind of personality/character to be ok with working online, meaning you are willing to work alone or with a few partners.

I only get lonely if my new strategy on IM didn't work well

Well, I am very satisfied on my job... I love it and I didn't get bored. If you know how to manage your time on your job and outside world, you will surely enjoy your life.

I keep myself fit, having a sport after work or every weekend. I play tennis with my coolest tennis buddies. Sometime unwinding drinking vodka or beer. And also, traveling in different places.

In short time management should properly done. Work hard, enjoy life! cheers!

  • Is this thread serious? Cause sometimes I wish I was alone lol. Honestly, turning my phone off is one of the most relaxing and pleasurable things I could ever do.

I'm not saying I hate people - not in small doses anyway :p
But there are times when I honestly want people to leave me alone haha j/k. I got into IM because I wanted to use systems to do most of the explaining and converting.

I'm not saying I have tons and tons of friends or anything but I do get a lot of random calls during the day (friends and clients) to the point where I just want to lock myself in the toilet or have a shower as a form of santuary LOL.

Thankfully there was outsourcing to cover all the business related stuff.

Too much of anything can be a bad thing. Sometimes you crave time alone when you are working with others all day, but when you suddenly go from that to be alone all the time, then of course loneliness sets in.

Your friends at work can spontaneous go for lunch or after work drinks, but for you it always has to be organised an a bit of extra effort. Your friends in jobs can turn around and chat to someone one, physically about their life in general, you on the other hand have to find someone who has time to talk when you want.

It's natural that loneliness sets in and don't believe the bull hype of people on this thread, where they are telling you to man up or that it never exists. It does and it's a well researched issue.

There are however ways to manage it. (I felt lonely myself so did something about it).

Although I work at home/on holiday whenever I want, I also have a 'hot desk' in a entrepreneurial office in the centre of the city. Lot's of entrepreneurs, lots of different businesses, but they all feel the same as me. This means that on days I feel like really being around people, I can pretend to go to work and have the same perks as a work life. I can be sitting next to someone whilst working. I can see and meet tons of people all day long, and I can spontaneously go to lunch, coffee or even after works drinks with others.

Best of all, at the end of the day in a noisy office, I remind myself just how much I enjoy working alone! I like to remind myself at least twice a week, it's been great for networking, new opportunities and getting me out the dangerous Internet Marketer's mindset.

Try it, I recommend hot-desking to all my course students.

I recall reading somewhere a few years ago that working alone at home is like "being stranded on an island". I thought that was a bit extreme, but I do understand where they (and you) are coming from. I think most people go through this. However, I discovered something HUGE that made me snap out of it most days.

I was being "busy", but not accomplishing nearly as much as I should have been. I was busy checking stats, visiting forums, etc, but I wasn't really working as hard as I should have been. If I HAD been working hard and staying focused for a set amount of time each day then there wouldn't have been any time for being lonely!

      Make sense?

That being said, just make a list of "attainable" goals that you want to achieve, break the steps up into daily, weekly, monthly, etc chunks and then make a list of daily tasks to reach those goals. You do the most important tasks, stuff that you're good at, stuff that you enjoy, stuff that no one else can do, etc and outsource the rest.

Next, buy a kitchen timer and work in 30-60 minute increments. Take a 10 minute break after each increment, but no more than that, as your mind can drift too far away from your work and it will be hard to get started again.

Repeat this for a total of 5-6 actual "work" hours each day and you'll actually accomplish more in this 5-6 hours than most people do in an entire eight hour shift (military excluded) :-).

Finally, when your workday is finished start working on building a social life. I've heard of some marketers even putting family time, personal time, etc right into their daily/weekly planner.

Spend time with loved ones and friends, take up hobbies, go to the library, join a fitness center, look for local groups of like minded people that you can spend time with, go to church, join a bowling league, learn how to play an instrument by taking lessons, etc, etc, etc.

My point is that as long as you're actually "working" you shouldn't have time to be bored, lonely or depressed. Been there, done that!

As far as your social life goes, you'll need to find things to do to fill your "off" time. Only you can determine what makes you happy.

      Hope that helps. :-)

One thing might help is if you get to meet other IM enthusiasts in your locality. Your friendly Search Engine can help there. The alternate is a hobby. There'll be something you can get into which one way or another will get you out of the house and connecting with others to a lesser or greater degree. Hope this helps

    Hmmmm...

Well im trying to get into IM so i can eventually work where, when and as much as i want.
I mean if it takes me 'x' hours to do my daily tasks and if i want to take a day off to go and be with my family/friends then next day i would do 2x hours of work or something like that.

If this is something you (experienced marketers) think its impossible please tell me!!
    Save my time now...

Good question. I never get lonely as the internet is my best friend. There is so much to do I never get time to think about being lonely. I exercise daily and get out of the house when I can to take a break from the computer. I am considering buying a dog to give me some more exercise and for that bit of company we all need from time to time. Anyone else have a dog under their desk?

It's better for a person to be lonely than to be surrounded by people who are demotivating.

I've made some healthy culls to my social circles in the past and took onboard better, more influencial people.

Definitely. My social life is virtually non-existent nowadays apart from a little sport. When I was younger I was spending a lot going out, and to be honest all of those people have got normal boring jobs and are going no-where. I feel like I am getting somewhere the more I learn and build up my business. My online friends are into the same thing as me, and I can relate to them more. I tell my offline friends what I do and they just look at me puzzled. Affiliate what? lol

What are your "go out on a date with a girl I've met, have fun, feel great, don't worry about what tactic to use to "game her", be myself, and possibly end up having sex":10 conversion figures? Of course, one would need a sufficient sample size...

I'm not sure if you really think it's a joke, but if you think it's a joke then my reply is that he didn't catch on your joke, and if you didn't mean that his tactic is a joke in the first place then I wonder why did you think his tactic was fantastic, since it looks like a big fat joke. What a joke my reply is...

Get a hobby that's interactive that you enjoy so you can talk about it with others, something you are all gathered together for and all get into.
Bowling, musician, golf, darts, softball, card club or anything that involves others that focuses on a common reason for being together. Being a full time IMer can get very lonely if you are a single person and you have no other activities outside of work.

Well if you can build your business well enough, you won't be working too much. So technically you are a "part-time" marketer. In your free-time, you can hang out with friends, and basically spend time on your hobbies that you always wanted to do. Be social, don't sit in front of the computer 24/7. I usually get some air, travel, etc. Just have fun!

...waay too busy to be lonely. There are times though when you step out to the mall for instance and you see colleagues having a laugh with each other on their lunch breaks, and you kind of miss that.

But hey, who's going back to a boss?

Lately I have been going to the park at lunch and it's so peaceful for the soul

LOL it's awesome to find like minded people with more or less the same problems!!! My problem is my parents and friends think I'm crazy and should get a real job!!!!! I have no IM friends online/offline, but obviously joining the warrior forum is about to change that!!! hahaha ohhhh and I make it a goal to spend 5-7 hours outdoors! Going to gym, going for coffee with friends and going to the beach just to forget about everything!! Luckily I live in AUS! Oh and for people struggling with motivation, I recommend listening to Jim Rohn or Anthony Robbins and actually do what they preach, Write down your goals and put it on your WALL and read it everyday with excitement!!!!!!!!! Without dreams and goals life is pointless!

I'm not lonely because I have many online friends while doing my online business. But for me, meeting people offline is also important. So I don't just spend my time in front of computer. I will always need sometime to meet friends offline. Because not only it's good for real social life, but also good for health, make my body move, not just sitting

The best advice I would give is to keep your work life separate from your personal life. While working, interact with new and interesting people on a daily basis and after you have worked for the day, make sure you do the usual things your friends or family is doing.
