I'm new to IM and confused

So I am new to IM and don't really know what to believe. I have listen to a ton of the pitches and have done a little research online and am weary that all of it may be a scam. Every pitch I listen to says they have the secret that no one else knows??? When I dig into their method they seem to be doing the same as everyone else, i.e. find niche, find an affiliate product (usually IM product), blog or write articles on it, use squeeze page, blah, blah, blah.

Can anyone tell me if I can really make a decent living doing this besides selling the IM pitches. I don't have a problem selling IM but it just seems that that is really all anyone in this biz does.

I would appreciate any sincere feedback as this is written in sincerity.

Thanks,

George

P.S. there are a couple guys I have listened to that seem to offer some good advice and don't seem to give the "I have the only solution and everyone else is an idiot!"

I've been making a living marketing products and services online for several years. 1/2 of what I sell has nothing to do with IM.

You don't "have a problem selling IM".

That's the first myth. You don't "sell" IM. Internet Marketing is not all about selling "IM" programs to other people.

The first lesson for any newbie is to actually learn what Internet Marketing is. And for all purposes, the answer to that is very simple:

It's doing everything that everybody does offline, over the internet.

You can sell pizzas on Main Street, or you can sell pizzas online.

You can walk door-to-door selling your "advertise your business" service or you can sell the same service online.

Internet Marketing is using the internet to communicate with -- and influence the actions of -- web surfers.

Just like the "offline" world, there's a million different ways to make money "online". The fact that all of this is done using the internet, it intimidates newbies and leads them into the traps and scams of "gurus" selling their secret formula.

I emphasize: read, read, read. Research, research, research. And keep doing it until that light goes off in your head: the BIG idea will hit you and everything will seem clearer.

    EXAMPLE:

While I'm pretty experienced and earn my living online, I read tons of stuff that has nothing to do with Internet Marketing and a big idea will hit.

My latest? I was reading about a missing child. And then I said to myself, "hey, isn't there tiny GPS units available that can be sewn into kids' clothes or worn somewhere on the discreetly? And isn't there apps where parents can track their children if needed?"

So that one news story has led me to writing an eBook about what to do if your child goes missing and how to find them and bring them home safe.

I've got an eBook, several GPS units that would be hard for a potential kidnapper to detect right away (like if a child is taken chances are their phone would be tosses so tracking units should be placed in other areas), an app and some other stuff in the package.

I started marketing the package locally and it's selling like gangbusters. Now it's time to expand.

Sure, the idea has been done before, but as with any old idea, I took it and marketed it differently. Bottom line: an idea hit and I took action.

    So should you.

BUT...that action shouldn't be purchasing guru packages or falling for some youtube video promising to make you millions. If you do that, there will be only one millionaire made and it won't be you!

Before you start selling find free stuff (look for free Ebooks to give away) everyone likes a freebie then build a opt in page where people leave their name and email for the freebie that way you are building your email list, once you have 100 or so on your list find a product to sell to your list but keep the opt in page going and continue to build your list.
That is what any program you join will tell you to do.
You could always join affiliate programs and sell their products with a opt in page also.

No - no-one can tell you whether you will make money.

Only YOU know that and if you don't know what you're doing and want other people to tell you what your business should be then you're onto a hard start.

It's good that your BS meter is going off instead of blindly handing these guys your money like so many others do. Definitely avoid bizops. As you said, they all follow the same framework.

The MMO (make money online) segment of the online industry is all about training you to push the MMO industry. Just imagine a college that instead of training you to work in the real world, trained you to sell other people on going to college. And then those people were trained to sell college and so on. In the end all you have are people that can sell college. No doctors, accountants or engineers. Everyone just sells college. That is MMO. Nobody learns how to program, do graphic design, obtain seed capital, build a brand or sell advertising. You learn how to convince people they can make big money working online. The whole thing is just stupid and ripe for collapse just as the "envelope stuffing" schemes of the 90's came crashing down.

I think the best thing you can do is find some websites that you really like and research what it would take to run a site like that. That version of things is going to be a lot different than what most here say, but the upside is obviously much higher.

Its not just that there is a lot of fluff and BS...it is also that newbies expect to make a lot of money easily and overnight.

Since they don't make it that way, then the offers are fluff and BS. Your expectations are what is fluff and BS.

Newbies need to learn that making real money anywhere in the universe is a result of hard work and determination. You need to be solid on what are the basic elements for selling online. There is nothing else or new about this so don't keep buying WSO after WSO hoping that each one has a new invention on sales page, capturing emails, posting links, and blah, blah, blah.

The fact is that each WSO is most probably the result of a successful method that one warrior made money with and if you do the same and keep doing it, you will make money with it too. But you also need to know, that each method was a result of specific understanding, prior trials and failures and experience which helped that warrior to succeed - you will need to focus and work hard at it just like they have.

This should be the basis of any judgement concerning IM in general - most want quick results but this is not the bread and butter of sales. I consider and have witnessed first hand, many people blow away good efforts before they had a chance to mature just because they want faster results. And I say great - you want faster results? Then work faster and harder! Don't expect to sit around watching videos are chatting and posting pics on FB or playing games on your computer all day and still make money from IM.

Yes... alot of "secrets". However the most basic "non-secret" will earn you the most.

Find a low competition niche, find or create a product, get a site, get an autoresponder, create a squeeze page, create a sales or review page, and keep driving traffic to your site.

    Hi George

The best advice I could give anyone starting out in IM is to understand that there is a learning curve to go through - if you choose to go through it.

There is a long way and a short way.
The long way is valuable yet confusing and can be very time consuming and expensive....and destroy peoples confidence and hopes and aspirations in a lot of cases.

The short way is to get good advice first up. You start with a clean slate, an open mind, and the ability not to get sidetracked by confusing information that will hold you back.

Trends change. Experts change. Software changes. Algorithms change. etc etc.

I reckon the very best thing you could do would be to find a GOOD coach/mentor.

Make sure they have excellent credentials. Make sure they have the capacity and ability to help you to help yourself and to then choose a pathway/system that is proven.

The fact is its daunting and challenging - particularly when you are sold the add ons and told you need this and that to succeed.

Most software becomes either obsolete, counter-productive or doesnt get properly supported once you purchase it imo.
Therefore avoid it in all but the most compelling and proven situations.
It will distract you and cost you money.

Wordpress plug ins? Same thing imo. They can be good - but nevertheless distract you and cost you money (plenty of good free ones anyway)

    Multiple website packs? Ignore them.

Traffic systems? Ignore most. Get some good fundamental current advice and apply it (if appropriate)
Heaps of free info thats good.

    I could go on.

I wish i'd had someone to say some of this stuff to me when I started

    Goodluck!

Instead of buying a bunch of crap like a lot of us did when we first started out, just search this forum. You will find about everything you need to know and all it costs you is your time.

Another thing is, don't jump around from one thing to another, stay focused on one thing at a time. Make a sale then duplicate it over and over.

When I first started out I was just doing one thing after another, my friend Willie Crawford gave me some of the best advice I ever got when he told me to "stay focused"! Learn the one thing you are getting into then keep learning it until you know it inside and out. Once that happens then you can move on to something else but more than likely you will be making more money than you ever dreamed and will just want to stay in what you're doing. Become an expert in your field.

The main thing is, instead of just reading everything there is to read and etc, get started and do something! Take action! There is no big secret to success. The "secret" is to take action and do something! Put what you read to good use and do what it says to do to reach your goals.

You do have written goals, don't you? Plan the steps you need to take to reach them.

If what you mean by "sell IM" is teaching others how to do internet marketing effectively, that is a highly valuable thing and can be sold in different ways, but I definitely wouldn't say that's all anybody does.

In my opinion, online marketing doesn't have to be all that much about selling at all. I prefer to go the relationship building route, where you genuinely care about others succeeding too.

In the end, yes, some kind of product must be sold to make money, but there are a lot of great ways to get there that have little to do with scammy pitches.

You see the basics of internet marketing is, was and will remain the same always. You go to any guru of internet marketing, he will not be able to teach you IM without going through those basics.

If you work in a position for several years, you must be able to find out some exceptional systems or may be some easy techniques to accomplish your task. Learning IM is the same. If you continue working with it, you will be able to find out some easy techniques too.

George, you will find a lot of information on this forum with different WSOs offerings....
What really helped me in the beginning... is to take an action and stay focused.I called myself a WSOs junky at one point....until l I found a mentor who showed me the way to do it right...the biggest problem for me was to focus on only one thing...so I eliminated everything and focused only on 1 thing...managed to run and make my first money online , advance my techniques and repeat the whole process.

I had and I still have learning curves, but I take one project at the time, focus, take an action to start and finish one project and only then...move to another one.

    Good luck ...

Sometimes I feel that after replying to threads like this, I've been had somehow.

    Why?

    The OP posts for "help".

Then the OP never replies EVER to thread that they've started.

I've seen it time and again where a "newbie" will make an account, post a thread like this and let us semi-experienced members try to welcome them and give them some tips and they're no where to be found.

Personally, I sometimes wonder what's up with all this.

IM has a ton of competition. There's a lot of money to be made in this niche but it will take more consistent work every day. Most newbies get in blog a couple of times and expect the money to come rolling in....

    Traffic + conversions = sales

All you need is a landing page, sales page and an auto responder
That's it. Making money online is like learning to drive a car...

If I gave you the keys and a car I'm pretty sure if you were determined you could figure put how to drive it with a couple of bumps and. Dings. But...

If you had someone who has already been driving for years without crashing teach you I'm sure you would learn in a fraction of the time.

IM is the same way if you want to be successful you are going to want to keep investing in yourself and learn from the best.

    And be wary of myths out there;

    Where there's a problem there's opportunity.

True, but this principle shouldn't be your primary guide. In reality, it should be "where there is a list of problems, pick which one you can provide the best value to and energizes you and you know you can make the difference you want." It should be something that you can have a chance to be the best, and provide the best value and simply love what you do.

It's possible to make $1000/week online with no money and no experience.

    Success doesn't come before work.

If you treat IM like a business, then you will get paid like a business. But remember, you will need to invest in your business, you will need to spend time growing your business. This stuff doesnt happen over night. Some will try to sell you that dream, but I am proof that dreams do come true.....if and only if you work hard enough at it.

I can understand your situation because I was also confused and suffered from information
overload but I have now learnt a lot mainly through research on the net and also from my
mentor. My advice is do not buy any product until you are sure it will help you or you are
sure you can get a refund if it does not work for you. This will help you from falling for
    the scams out there

I have used mainly free methods to set up my sites and get traffic. I know which products

I think when you get past the point of theory and actually do what those courses are teaching you, you will know it's no scam. Hopefully, they are or will be teaching you the art of copywriting as well.

When someone says some of the following:
      The Secret
Work only 30 minutes a Day
      Wake up when you want
      Fire your boss

It's a part of copywriting the only real secret I can think of is Doing the Work
The more you learn the more you will be able to notice the wolves.

I would suggest watching tons of videos on youtube and other video sites on marketing and traffic and other methods like making money and etc. I would say to put together your own methods based on your research. There will be times that you will fail that much is certain, but not giving up is key when it comes to succeeding. I failed several times but I also never gave up either and I make money as a result of not giving up.
