What are the required skills for Internet marketing

To be a successful Internet marketer what skills would you recommend I develop? So far I have made this list, Sales(persuasion, rhetoric, good communication overall) The ability to write well and articulate thoughts fluidly, marketing of course.

What other skills would you recommend?

I am 18 years old and ready to work my ass off at this so any other pointers would be appreciated.

Patience and time are two good one's. You can go crazy trying to build a business. Just don't get impatient with it, if you are consistent, it will work out...

You have the sales part down. Now try some basic tech skills such as photo editing, video production, video editing, how to use an FTP program, how to install WordPress and other useful things.

  • Business Management / Entrepreneurship, as in: Learn how to run and grow a business properly, not work 24/7 in one.

You will get allot of individual answers in here such as: product creation including ebooks, audio, video, software, etc, and those are helpful skills,

knowing how to write copy is helpful,

knowing how to program and code, build, and maintain simple or elaborate sites is helpful,

knowing how to create graphics is helpful,

knowing how to make use of stats and numbers and turn that into profit is helpful,

knowing how to get all of the above seen by millions (the marketing part) is helpful,

and I could go on, but in reality, "a real IM business" needs many or all of those skills and more in order to have a successful Internet Business running.

The information overload comes in when people are trying to learn all of the above and more, and the big mistake is, they do it all by them selves.

(I can see some of you checking your todo list right now).

The real success lies in knowing how to build a complete team of people that can take on all of these tasks, and together your company becomes the name brand everyone knows. Or in the case of IM, the name brand Guru that gets all the credit for all the hard work that his/her team puts in.

There, I just saved you $997.

Definitely agree with this. There are a LOT of things to learn in actually running a serious income producing internet business, and the only way to properly run one and leverage whatever you can is to systemically run it. If something will repeatedly be done, create a system, and outsource it. Use that time to do profit producing activities, that's how you begin to leverage what you have. Systems. Copy Mcdonalds and Starbucks.

I'd say learning the fundamentals of copywriting and good old proven marketing techniques will always be a valuable asset. Better to spend time learning those than SEO, which will always be one algorithm update away from nulling your efforts. Not saying SEO isn't good to learn, it's excellent traffic if done right, but if you do choose to focus your efforts, learn the timeless art of sales and marketing.

As in any business there are some elementary - fundamental skills anyone has to learn who aims for continues success, and those skills are:

    1) Vision. Every real online entrepreneur has a burning vision and is willing to give everything to make this vision become real. If your vision and dream is strong enough, you will do whatever it takes to succeed.

    2) Perseverance. How to simple continue with what you are doing when things are not looking good. It's easy to quit when things are not running good and it's easy to continue when things are running good. You need to develop the mindset that you do what you need to do REGARDLESS of the current result.

    3) Time Management. Online marketing is all about time management, physiological management, about managing your thoughts in a way so that you are directed to accomplish more. It does take some practice and it does take some expertise to master time management.

    4) Networking Skills. As an online marketer you have to be good at networking with people. There is not a single person who managed to build a successful online business all by himself/herself. You have got to work together with people if you want to succeed.

    5) Niche Specific Skills. This is where you start making REAL money online. I know that your question was WHAT SKILLS you need to become successful online. This depends a great deal on what areas you want to excel at.

If you want to create a full time income with selling your own products or affiliate products, you have to learn advertising, you have to learn ow to build a list, you have to learn how to communicate your marketing message, you have to learn how to write campaigns and much more.

If you want to succeed with SEO, you have to figure out what currently works, you have to learn keyword research, you have to learn how to set up a website..

There are so many skills involved in any specific niche business model that you will always have to learn more and more.

It is best to decide upon a niche and stick to it UNTIL you have realized absolute results, meaning a consistent income. If you managed to reach this point, you can provide coaching programs, consulting services, eBooks and much more.

With that being said, if you develop one, ESSENTIAL money making skill it will pay you in multiple ways.

Figuring out the easiest way to automate your tasks, outsource your work, and create residual income (so you're not making money based on how much work you put in, it just keeps working for you).

A sincere heart to give a real value to people.

    Combine with :
    - Traffic generation skill
    - List building
    - Basic good copywriting -- read "Hypnotic Writing" by Joe Vitale.

I think if there's the one lifesaver, this is the ability to give value from your heart. Even in a niche you're not really interested in, you must always answer "how can I help people with my website? how can I ease their life? Were I a complete stranger and I visit this website (your website), will I find it useful?".

IMHO, there's no such thing as a definite list of traits that one must have in order to be a successful Internet Marketer. We are all entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs know so little about so many things. While it's good to learn a lot of things, you only have to acquire the basic one: the ability to build a lasting business relationship with anyone whom you like to do business with. Relationship is the foundation of all businesses, even in our personal lives.

learning how to get traffic to your site

learning how to build a relationship with that traffic through email marketing

learning how to research your target market and the trends for that market

learning how to automate as much tasks as possible

learning how to outsource other tasks, training your outsourcers, and managing your outsourcers

learning how to setup systems to create repeatable results

    learning cashflow management

Those skills are too advanced for most people because they haven't figured out their mindset set.

The first thing you need to do before you can see success in any niche is to fixate your mindset. That will always be step 1.

Once your mindset is set, you now have the power to develop REAL money making skills.

Literally anyone who has two eyes and can click a mouse can make money online. I think that most people just quit a tiny bit too early. The reason why they quit too early is because they are not persistent enough and think that jumping to the next big thing gives them a better shot.

At the end it turns out that taking a new shot before you have successfully executed the first shot leads to a fresh start, but not progress.

If you don't quit, your chances of success are always higher than when you just from one project to the next within days. That is true when you are working with a proven system.

Give 100% during the hours you work and finish your project to get some measurable results.

Tim, I don't know about your personality but I learned much about building self-confidence from Tiffany Dow and Marcia Yudkin. I'd recommend you follow these two ladies.
Other than that, technical skills are also important. I also value communication skills, content creation skills and budget controlling skills. If you know how to outsource whatever job you're not able to complete properly, it's a good addition too.
