Transitioning from being a Writer to an Internet Marketer

Hello all,

This is my first post. I decided to join this forum because I need help with my plan to transition from being an SEO writer to an Internet Marketer.

I have been writing for many clients for 4 years now, and I started writing online because it was the best option for my circumstances then. I kept doing so because I was fortunate to have found clients who ordered from me on a regular basis, which helped stabilize my income. I eventually decided to become a full-time writer and left my corporate position.

Ah, I bored you with my life story? Here's more.

Anyway, in the course of 4 years, I believe I learned the tricks involved in effective article writing, but I am not THE BEST, so I accept the fact that there is more to learn. But my skills are such that I can whip up a 500 word article in less than 20 minutes; provided the topic is about health, fitness, travel, SEO, home improvement, pets, relationships, and oh, other niches. I'm not too keen on technical articles, though, however, I am pretty adept on writing reviews on many things.

Researching, reading and writing for my clients have introduced me to the wonders of Internet Marketing and Affiliate Marketing. I looked at Clickbank and found it interesting.

As of posting, please consider me a total dummy in terms of Internet Marketing, but I have a bit of grasp on it. I am just totally lost on how to transition from being a writer to becoming an internet marketer who can earn from it.

How do I go about it? Should I create my own website? (By the by, I have experience in creating/building websites using Justhost) Should I indeed become an Affiliate Marketer or Internet Marketer?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Published articles = traffic. With your skills you could easily have a website selling clickbank affiliate products that are connected to your article subject/your skill area and expect to make sales. Just sit back and write articles on topics you consider fun and interesting.

If you're not technical minded enough to make websites, you could easily trade articles to someone else to make a site for you, via the forum or via information you'll find here. You're in a good position and on the right website, welcome., BR88

Thank you for your response. I have several articles published on article directories such as eZinearticles and other article hubs. But I never did get to taking advantage of them. In fact, I have hundreds of unused articles stored in my computer, for that matter. These are articles that my clients decided not to use, so I kept the copyright.

How would I go about taking advantage of those published articles? Oh boy, I guess I need to spruce up on my understanding of SEO and backlinking and stuff like that, eh?

    Thanks again for your advice.

This is the same issue I am working through...I have dozens of articles and can produce dozens more...but what is the best way to monetize article content?

I searched Content Sites first, like Constant Content, Helium, Triond, Hubpages, Squidoo, Demand Studios, etc.

Some you could only sell an article on demand, so they tell you what the topic is. That doesn't work for me.

Some you can list articles and sell non-exclusive PLR rights. But they want content that has not been previously published. So does that mean I can only submit one article on one of these sites, or could I submit the same article to several of these sites since technically they are under review everywhere and have not been previously published anywhere?

Some like Triond, Hubpages, etc, will give you a % of the adsense revenue. They want "original content." I have the same question as above about those kinds of sites.

And am I correct in assuming that you can post the same article to various article directories like Ezinearticles, Articlebase, and others?

If you are good at writing content then stick to it. If you want to earn more per each article, do not sell them for $10 or whatever fixed price to marketers, but offer them to people who will pay you royalties or percentage of profit. So you can publish an article and earn money from the same article over and over again for many years.

      Hi,

I have explored many facets of earning from online writing, and I was right in saying that I still need to learn many things, such as what you said about offering them to people who'd pay royalties for my articles. Now, that's something I have never heard of yet, and thank you for letting me know about it. Would you know more about how that works?

That's what I do. I share profits with my writers. I publish their articles on my site and I add their tracking code to Adsense ads. I can then see how much each ad unit generated profit and share it with a writer. I don't claim the ownership of the article, unless this has been agreed upon and the writer has been paid a fixed rate upfront. I do this with new writers until they trust me and are willing to switch to revenue sharing model and earn unlimited income from each article.

That's sort of what squidoo does, too, but they have more complicated model to calculate revenue. I also think that collaboration is the only way to build a profitable and sustainable business. You can't do everything on your own, write, design, market the site, etc.

Edit: the other way to sell the same article multiple times is by selling PLR packages (private label rights.)

That is very interesting. I looked into affiliate marketing because I am highly challenged with the idea, although as you mentioned, it is indeed daunting. I am also looking at the possibilities of earning recurring/passive income from internet marketing as most marketers claim.

But earning from the royalties of my articles sounds like an attractive, sensible idea, too. I get to write and achieve one of the factors that attracted me to internet marketing in the first place.

I appreciate your advice and will look into it further. I haven't put my pen down on article writing yet, as it is my bread and butter still.

I 'd like to buy some of your articles to see what you can write. I sent you an email. Let me know if you are interested. If you do want to start your own personal site/blog I can trade my time for your articles.
