When good product reviews go BAD

"About one-third of all consumer reviews on the Internet are fake." says this article on Yahoo...
The Best Book Reviews Money Can Buy - Yahoo! Finance

This guy went ahead and sold fake reviews and was raking in $28k a month by doing so.

The way he justified it is he said that ""These were marketing reviews, not editorial reviews."

I always figured that there would be *some* fake reviews out there, and that's why before I buy something I read through most if not all of them.

So what's your thoughts on the future direction of trust and honesty on the internet?

Should the guy paid for the reviews and the people paying for the reviews BOTH be punished?

Social proof isn't what it used to be. Evidently plenty of people have studied a host of copywriting and persuasion materials and are using them in an irresponsible manner.

The good thing is that it's hard to hide your misdoings on the internet. People may get away with using fake testimonials, etc. in the short term but when they're found out word travels fast.

I feel that posting unauthentic reviews is an extremely slimy way of marketing.

The best way to get more sales is to be 100 percent honest. And considering the desires/wants and needs of the people you are focused on helping to achieve an awesome result. (with the review as your media for communication tool)

You will make a lot more money telling the truth then lying. Lying to create income is like taking a short cut to wealth.

It's like taking steroids to get jacked. It never ends up the way you truly desire in your heart of hearts when all has come full circle.

But you cannot cheat the inherent, curious and good-will nature of people. It will catch up to you. If you build an empire built on trust and helping others through the strategy of distributing truth, you will provide them with clarity and meaningful results.

Some people just have iron-emotions and they convince themselves that stretching the truth is ok because "everyone else" seems to do it.

Poor social conditioning and a weak psychology are the culprits. Gaining awareness and clarity is the antidote.

You can't cheat for a long time.Fake reviews will fade out when the genuine one's come out.
