Suggestions For Whiteboards?

I've not covered an entire wall but I've experimented with a couple of things.

1. Enamel coated sheet steel - weighs a ton even for modestly large sheets and doesn't wipe clean as well it might.

2. Melamine or formica faced board (the kind you get for making kitchen carcases) - Again, seems even heavier than the steel and was rubbish for wiping clean.

Conclusion: Buy the biggest, genuine whiteboard your space can fit or you can afford. In my experiments there was no substitute for the real thing.

Steve blackboard paint, but you can get it in white as well.

I do this often - (in my sign business)
as mentioned above you really need a surface that the ink won't sink in to
1) buy a prefabricated whiteboard from an office supplier - chuckle - just thought I throw that one in - look for a wholesaler - some come with brackets for wall fixing - easiest option
2) the board itself is a coated sheet of .5mm steel - called colourbond here in AUS
commonly used for roofs, fences
the whiteboard type has a special coating , has teflon in it to stop the ink soaking in(I think) -
ask your local signwriter - comes in a 1200mm x 2400mm sheet (in Aus)
3) Find your local signwriter supply co. - they will have whiteboard vinyl - basically a big sticker - comes in a roll 4 foot wide - apply it to any smooth surface- a bit hard for a newbie - you could stick this straight on to the wall - makes a bit of a mess when you take it off
- your local signwriter may help
4) glass works well - paint the back side - expensive and a bitch to mount
5) Acryic sheeting is OK you may need to polish it every now and then to get the ink residue off-
for all options only use good quality whiteboard markers

I'm sure you could cover an entire wall, not as professional looking as the boards sadly, but very handy!

You could check with Warriors John Reese, pretty sure he uses those in his home office, and Yanik, he was writing on a wall board in one of his recent videos

I've used a product for years that I purchased at either Rona or Home Depot. It wipes off dry but even better if you use a slightly dampened rag/paper towel.

I don't know what they call it but if you go to the back of the store where they keep the sheet goods and you'll find it. It comes in 4X8 sheets, [1/4" or 3/8" thick] is coated with some hard, white surface and as I recall the cost was less than $20 when I purchased.

I've got five 1200x900mm whiteboards. Basically, they're a sandwich of chipboard in the core between two sheets of melamine.

I've also tried marking white gloss paint with a whiteboard pen. Once dry, it wiped straight off. Something to think about.
