Short Term Gains Vs Long Term Relationship???

Ok, so I'm going to start promoting a clickbank product through youtube.

The problem is, I'm stuck between two methods:

Method 1 - From my videos, send traffic straight to the sales page through a re-directed affiliate link

Method 2 - Send people to my own squeeze page offering them a valuable, relevant free product. Obviously they have to provide me with their email to get this and I build my own list. I provide this list with great content through email and discreetly sell to them maybe once every 6-7 emails, after I have provided lots of good information and built a good relationship.

I can then use this list to sell numerous products too.

Now I know that the obvious answer seems to be method 2 but I see a lot of advantages to the first method:

1) Traffic is sent straight to a high converting sales page which is relevant to the videos that have sent them there.

2) By adding a squeeze page and building my own list, I seem to be adding an unnecessary middleman.

So, why spend time on building a relationship with my list just to be able to send them to the same sales page?

I can see a lot of collateral damage on the way (people not opting in to get the free report, people unsubscribing after a couple of emails etc) to "building a relationship" when I could just send them all straight to the sales page and let the sales page do its job.

Do you think the trust you build through a well nurtured list makes up for the people you lose along the way?

Providing my videos can produce a constant stream of traffic to the affiliate sales page, I think I am in favour of method one at the moment.

What do you think??

It's sorta like having a few apples or having an apple tree. Yeah, the tree takes a little longer to bear fruit but once it does you've got apples for years.

But the analogy is favorably flawed to some degree because in this type of marketing you can actually get fruit from an immature tree.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm all about playing for the long haul personally.

I would suggest you to go with approach 2. That's what I do anyway.

The fact that many people may drop off from the sales funnel before reaching the product sales page may be offset by the pre-sale you do to those who reach your list which in turn could significantly boost the conversion ratio.

I think that, just like nearly everyone else who thought that and tried it out that way, you'll eventually change your mind about that, and for good and valid reasons.

I think trying to do it that way is essentially failing to fulfil at least one (and arguably even two) of the three essential requirements for selling enough ClickBank products to be worth talking about: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ggestions.html

So, I strongly suspect that your second suggestion is a far better plan, really.

Shoot for the long term relationship. Method 2 sounds better.

Go for method two, but after they opt-in redirect them to the sales page.

It's a win win. You get the lead, and they may purchase the product giving you a commission.

    2 birds one stone.
