I need some direction.

Hello! I have been a member of the Warrior Forum for a while now. I have been reading the Forum daily for the last five years. I desperately need some help. I know quite a bit about different ways to make money online. I am an above average writer, with excellent grammar and punctuation skills. My problem is I get excited about a plan as to how I am going to make some money. Then I read about another plan that sounds better. I continue this cycle over and over, and the years pass by.

I think about writing for a site called Info Barrel, get all excited about it then completely switch my thinking and start to consider writing an ebook. I need a kick in the pants!!! Thank you so much for your time. Anne

Annie you are not alone, but, you know what seperates the millionaires from the others? They stick to what they know. I was watching a youtube video of eric thomas and he said, he has a friend who is making $20,000 a month in network marketing and he wanted Eric to join him, but, Eric said no ("I"ll Pass") because he has his own vision and goals and hope to ursurp his best buddy one day by continuing to stay focused up at 3 am every morning.

Same with gurus they don't go off course whether someone is making heaps more than they are, or, not.

    Just saying

Try structuring your time and tasks that you want to accomplish. Then during the time slot you have set, work on that one task without any interruptions. By doing something like this you will soon be finishing projects and become more productive!

    Hope this helps

My advice is to begin focusing on a market that you a) Have some interest/passion around and that b) you know buy stuff (ideally information, but it could be tangible stuff too)

Next - start to build a following of your own, ideally that is done through a blog or network of blogs with some inbound content accomplished through syndication, PR, videos (if you want), etc...

This gives you one side of the formula - a following

What you then can do is match up desires in that marketplace with products and services - your own reports, ebooks, consulting, training, affiliate products, etc...

It all starts with focusing on a market and then building up your position within that market

If you can write, you can build authority niche websites. Over time, they will yield great results. It's how I make the bulk of my money. You can also swap your writing skills for SEO services or things that you are not good at with other warriors here to keep your site building costs very low. If you had started doing this when you joined, you would be a member of the $10K/month club. Of that I have NO doubts at all.

All the above is great. I feel your pain. I use to bounce from one thing to the next. I wasn't until I put on the blinders. Focused and stuck with one thing until it was profitable.

Find what you love and run with it. Blog daily and promote daily and you'll be able to monetize anything!

You can make a very good living writing articles - and even more if you broaden your horizons to include freelancing for print media (including, of course, Kindle).

Frankly, it's sounds to me as if you aren't really "sold" on any of these plans. So maybe you need to just sit down and think about what it is you want to do.

Not to get maudlin, but you can think about the legacy you want to leave behind, and plan backwards from the eulogies and obit. You've got years to make it happen - but only if you choose the first steps going from where you are today to where you want to be. Just break it down into manageable steps, milestones that are achievable.

    hello,

Yes I know what you mean, you do not focus on one thing. And you need to choose one thing you are interesting an just focus on that one. Try the method, if you earn some money , go ahead and make it become a business. Do not try to do many thing at the same time because you will loose everything.

    Hope that help

    Hi,

The main reason of failure in online marketing is that people jump from program to program. My piece of advice for you is that you make a clear decision on what to do and a plan, then stick to them. There will be always a new program on internet, so if you keep moving from one to another without being dedicated to a single one, I'm afraid to to say you will be wasting your time and missusing your opportunity to maximise your potential.

      Hi Anne,

I feel your situation, and can assure you I also was there many years ago. Let me to throw my thoughts into besides the helpful suggestions above. I don't want to repeat them, so I tell you a short story.

Please imagine, someone drives a car on a countryside road. The traffic is low, she barely meet someone, therefore she drives in her own moderate and comfortable pace. She doesn't feel compelled to particularly concentrate on anything. There was no particular destination or purpose planned, she just drives... in fact don't know where she's going to.

But... the road she drives on arrives to a highway connections and she shall to drive further on to the highway. She forced to drive on the overtaking lane and realized the higher sped of the cars on the highway. She has to wake up and accelerate to pick up the pace of other road users, otherwise they leaves her - not to mention the possible hazard caused by the hesitancy. End of story.

Maybe the analogy is a bit lame. But I feel you'll do the best to yourself if you wake up from the hesitant state you're in for years. The Warrior Forum is a crowded highway. You have to connect to the market to pick up the pace of successful people. So, connect to feel the circulation and attend in developing your self-confidence to stand in the arena.

I'm sure you know, procrastination often might based on lack of self-confidence or lack of motivation. Without any details I only guess. But, you can take yourself to the next level by overcoming them if they're the reasons in your case.

      I've two suggestions.

      1.) Self-confidence. You need to...

A.) assess what you can do, and what you can't - to gain a healthy basis for self-confidence

B.) match your abilities together with your goals

C.) produce small successes daily, build self-confidence based on them, then transfer on to bigger accomplishments

D.) celebrate these successes (even they're small now), that will help you to create a mindset for larger success

E.) knowing objectively that your abilities matched to your duties you need to do, you develop determination and endurance to work further success.

      2.) Motivation.

A.) As a starting point, please take some time and try to recall when and how you used to gain success at your activity. What kind of thing was that helped you specifically at that time? Whether it is possible to get that impulse element back to improve your current performance? Or better yet, for the sake of your well-feeling?

B.) Generally used to help in incitement if you plan your day to plainly know what you need to do within it. These stuffs will be your small goals. If you reached them one-on-one then reward yourself with something.

C.) Shape your working environment that way that an inspirational and motivational quote shall be always in front of you - reminding you to the chance for you to succeed.

D.) In your spare time read self-improvement books and guides at your own pace. There are many and an excellent book is one of the simplest ways to start. Then talk it over with someone outsider what you've read. Or find a mentor here.

E.) A simple smile might be one of the most effective way in giving impetus to yourself. Why? Because it will going to vastly illumine your outlook in life if you strive your best to stay glad all the time.

In conclusion: "Those who believe they can do something and those who believe they can't are both right" - said Henry Ford anno.

I hope, your will belong to the first group, right?

      Many successes,

      Sandor

If you can write, build an authority site as mentioned above and add one superb article per day targeting keywords in a niche you enjoy writing about. That would amount to 30 articles in a month or there abouts, and you could pull in a lot traffic if you did it right. Monetize that site with products / services relating to that niche and maybe Adsense.

Or, offer your writing services on oDesk, Warrior Services etc and make a living that way. Make sure you get value for you efforts, I think a site would bring longer term benefits personally but it depends on what you enjoy.

    Hi Anne,
We've gone through this, and we all tend to move from one thing to the next.

But really, unless we focus on one thing only until it starts making money, we'll just constantly be spinning our wheels.

I say "we" because I did the same thing for over a year. Probably 90% of the people on WF go through it too.

Once I focused on one strategy until it was ticking away making money, things started to happen.

I then added a second strategy, got it to become profitable on an ongoing basis, and now just recently have launched a 3rd business.

This seems to be the way that works for me.. oh ya.. I tend to stay out of the WSO thread too.. otherwise I'll be distracted by 50 other new strategies each and every day

@OP, So you, like many others, suffer from the shiny object syndrome. The difference is that you know it (many don't). You know you should stick to ONE thing and just do that. Yet you're not doing it. I so can relate! Been there done that.

There are tools to help with this. You don't need a bunch of people telling you to stick to one thing. You already know that. You need a tool to get your mind straight. As I said before on this forum a couple times, I'm getting good results with something called paraliminals (google it). Currently I aim to listen to at least 4 tracks a day (been doing it for about 1-2 weeks now). Already dropped 6 out of the 7 projects / ideas I had ongoing, got a proper plan for the one that remained, which I'm executing on and will get results soon as it approaches delivery.

I think you'll not only get good results with the paraliminals, but you'll also enjoy it a lot.

    Good luck to you!

An authority site is a main source of information in that niche. Somewhere that attracts a lot of visitors and is full of topics and content on that niche. You build it up to be an authority on the topic its about. Lets say its about "Dogs"

The flip side is a niche site, this is smaller and focuses on a sub niche and only targets that niche, takes less time to build etc. Lets say its about "Leather Dog Collars"

      Does that explain it better?

Good. So if you choose a topic you enjoy, you could just write about that to teach others what you know and build a site to publish all your articles. This would give you some focus and sense of achievement. Im only trying to match up your skills to a project, there is of course 100s of ways to make money online. But say you get $5 - 10 per article if you wrote for others. That article placed on a blog would bring in far more revenue in the long term by monetizing the site with products and offers etc.

The authority site on "dogs", would include all the sub niches, say "dog collars", " dog beds", "dog walking", "dog training" etc.

Where as the niche site just focuses on one of those smaller topics.

Well it is blog really, somewhere to post up articles. Blog, site, website all the same unless your talking about ecommerce sites etc.

The articles would need to target certain keywords to bring in some traffic if you want to earn money from the site, perhaps outsource some SEO to get some links to help boost its ranking on Google. Create a Facebook page and post up a link to that article on there once its on your site and a few other ways to generate some traffic. It wouldn't take long to create some engagement, especially if your writing style makes good reading.

The best advice I ever received was to "Build A List".

So, I just did that & now I am well into the thousands and it is growing all the time.

Plus I am now making enough to pay others to do the time consuming tasks of my business.

This allows me to focus on the important things in my life like my family etc.

I also focus on spending quite a bit of the time I have business wise here at the W.F.

Don't worry, you are 100% in the right place!

With your level of skill, I would go to a freelance website and offer my services there as a "ghostwriter".

Try www.elance.com for a start - they pay pretty well there.
There is less competition at www.odesk.com , but you will also find lower paying gigs there, so it would be up to you to find a suitable place to submit your services.

Books go for $500 - $10,000 per bid, and some job posters even offer royalties (which means you get a percentage of all sales made form your book). Granted, it does take time for you to write the book, so make sure you don't bite off more than you can chew...

Whatever you decide to do, we wish you only the best of your success!

One trick that the "shiny" things employ is scarcity, they threaten to take away the product at any moment or tell us that this opportunity will never, never, ever come again so you got to get on the train NOW!

You know, I've been seeing that ever since I got on the WF. Which therefore tells me that, there will always be some opportunity coming along, which I'll be able to seize upon at the right time.

Work out the basics get a site up and running, try to sell a few products. That's one of the coolest feelings in the world.

Formulating a plan and getting a mentor (not really that expensive) will go a long way to setting up some accountability. There are lots of membership sites out there that will do that.

You are not alone, and it is probably the main factor why some people succeed but most don't..

Several years ago I was in this same boat as well but then I had a bit of an epiphany if you like. It occurred to me back then that when I was at my day job with a boss breathing down my neck giving me a list of jobs to complete that day, I would get them done or get fired! A builder wouldn't go to a building site, start digging the foundations of a new house and then get distracted by a new building project down the road.. Actually some builders would but thats another story.

The point is, when you have a level of responsibility to somebody else or when somebody is relying on you to complete a certain set of tasks in a certain time frame, YOU WILL get those tasks completed. So why do most wannabe Internet marketers keep moving from shiny object to shiny object..?

    Two reasons..
    1. Inability to set goals.. Not only for the long term but for that very day. Traditionally, a boss will set these goals and oversee the completion. You have to be that boss and the executor. A very difficult skill that requires self motivation and self discipline.
    2. Not believing 100% that the path they are on is going to work. Because most people in this business work in isolation, it is very difficult for them to have the self belief in their abilities and know 100% that what they are doing will work. Once again, traditionally when working for a boss, they are the people that have that self belief and the workers do the bosses' bidding..
So, quite simply, to succeed you need to set goals for the long term and then break them down into achievable short term goals. Then break that down further into a set of realistic tasks for each day with a time frame to complete them. You have to do this with the belief that those tasks will take you to your short term goals first and ultimately your long term goals.

Oh, and finally, never rest on your laurels when things are going well. Challenges will pop up all the time that will divert your plans. You have to adapt your plans and be prepared for this. These are difficult skills to master, but master them you must if you truly want to succeed.

Shiny object problem I had that and then you beat yourself up because you know better. Then I learned that you just need to pick one and focus, shut things down if you have warrior forum or any of forum or traffic swarm for your start page take it down because that is a distraction. Write down what your goals are and put a date on them and be serious that you are going to get X done by X, and treat it like your life depended upon it or a real deadline. That's what I learn to do.

All wonderful responses you got here!

Like others said pick one idea and stick to it.

Break that idea down into tasks to complete

Set milestones to show all the progress you are making.

Plan a schedule and complete each task.

Notice the great feeling when you complete and task and reach a milestone.

At the each of each day, I made a small list of items to do for the next day. At first only put 2 or 3 so you don't feel overwhelmed.

That is a very bad cycle that I know a lot of warriors including myself have had difficulty in overcoming the same thing.

You simply need to stick to one quality course. Stop buying wso's completely and just focus on one thing.

Then start structuring your time to getting certain tasks done every day. I would write down your goals that you want to achieve for yourself every day and then stick to it. Even if you just take little action steps you'll feel much better about what you've accomplished.

You may even have to stop reading all your emails that you get from internet marketing guru's as that can take up a lot of your time. And most of the emails you get are about some newest wso or course that comes along which is what you want to avoid getting sucked into.

All those courses are completely useless unless you decide to take action on them.

This is such a great thread. I realize how easy it is to fall into this trap and I so admire people who can "tune out the noise" and get down to business. Clearly it is ACTION that makes the difference between those who succeed and those who endlessly and aimlessly flounder. Guess which category I unhappily subscribe to . . ? It does help to hear that I am not unique in this regard and that I am not struggling alone. It is also helpful to know that everyone must clear this hurdle at some point in order to succeed. Some clear it effortlessly and others stumble and fall many times before they finally have the critical, first leap behind them.

So here I am, up at nearly 6am, trying to ACT yet again before my weekend company gets up for the day. I do realize that I need to limit my time on here or at least manage it appropriately so that I have carved out time to learn, give back and ACT. I think following that cycle will be a formula for success.

Much continued success to those warriors that have achieved and continue to achieve their goals. As for the newbies like me, "Up and AT 'em"! I wish you the best of luck in this IM endeavor.

    Hello there,

What your facing is the most common reason for failure with Internet businesses.

There isn't much anybody can do but yourself. You already have highlighted what your problem is. The answer is your mindset. You need to get your head on straight, find one plan of action and dominate it.

One of the big reasons I think some newbies can get this way is because they have a lack of direction. If you had somebody to follow, or a mentor to help you get by, then you'd do much better because you will have an element of accountability that you must respect and adhere to!

1.So what to do? See if you can find yourself a coach/mentor to help you stay in check.
    2. Make a list of ways to make money online, and cross of all the ways you do not want to use. Then pick one you like. You said you can write well. So if that's the case maybe tackle a method that requires good writing.
    3. Write a plan. Without a plan you will fail miserably.

No business is ever created without a business plan. You must approach this like any other business. Give it your time, effort and care. Respect your business enough, to stick to one plan, and not ditch it for another plan.

When Walt Disney failed with his original Micky Mouse cartoon, did he ditch it and move on? Could you imagine if he did?

When everybody told Tim Berners that the Internet didn't seem like a plausible method of communication and sharing information, he could of just said "yeah, I should try another system/business model"....

These historic people all believed in ONE idea, and they dominated and mastered it. So what I'm saying, is believe in the business you are trying to tackle. Don't keep jumping around, it's wasting your time. You will never find a "better" system or an "easier" system, because the difficulty in getting things done, is you.

I hope that doesn't come across rude, but this is just pure brutal honesty. You must change your mindset, otherwise you are going to be trapped in a cycle forever.

Anne, first off you are not alone!

    I do this too!

The difference I have learnt over the years is that I follow through on one course until completion.

The first thing I would suggest doing is setting a goal.

Not JUST "I need to pay the bills!" but a REAL goal.

    Something that motivates you.

Then write down what you need to achieve the goal. Then take focused action until you get there.

Try and link your ideas together.

For instance from above - write an ebook, build website, write sales copy and promote using Info Barrel?

Or if you enjoy writing provide articles here in the Warrior forum.

Just follow through and take notes of the results you get.

    Anne,

first of all, set a goal to accomplish in a week. then plan how u can do it in time. Make a schedule of your work. if you succeed to accomplish in meantime, set another goal and do the same for that.
