you can check out webhostingtalk forums for choosing a web host, there's many reviews of hosting companies there . and for building a website, I recommend having a look at freelancer.com . there are many programmers which you can hire there for a very good price

you can also learn open source softwares written in PHP, like Joomla, WrodPress and magneto if you don't want to pay someone for creating a website for you

There are tons of webhost companies out there at affordable prices that offer webpage builders like wordpress, joomla, drupal and so on. The only thing with webhosting and asking for opinions is that's all you get as marketers all have mixed emotions about the different webhost companies will tend to stick up for the one they're paying for. I would look at the kind features you need and then compare them between a few then go from there.

Namecheap for names, and hostgator for hosting, and Wordpress for your site.

Can't go wrong with any of these. All are excellent, flexible (godaddy..ugh) and generally easy.

Do not make the newbie mistake of using Godaddy for your web hosting. They are fine for domain name registrations but I agree with Patrick and recommend you use Namecheap instead for domains.

WordPress is a CMS used primarily for blogging. It most certainly IS NOT a website builder. Plenty of hosting plans include website builders. Let's at least try and keep our terms straight so as not to confuse new people.

For people who aren't planning on blogging, a good website builder is a much better choice than WordPress because there are no extra charges for templates and because they're incredibly easy to use.

I like Hostgator for hosting. I use two different types of websites ...

    1. html site and I develop that in Dreamweaver
    2. Wordpress blogs (by far the easiest for a newbie)
    3. Have used Joomla but very steep learning curve (not recommended for newbies)

start with something cheap like HostGator or Bluehost -- both are reliable.

Use a CMS like Wordpress. WP has such a large community that it's great place for someone new to start.

Lots of tutorials, videos, plugins, themes, etc.
