The key(s) to Success is...

Patience
"There is a nice Chinese fable which goes something like this. A farmer once planted a bamboo seed on to the ground and then the watered and fertilizers on to it took care of it for the whole growing season. At the end of the season the farmer noticed that the seed did not germinate and did not show up any signs of a sprout so much as an inch off the ground.

Without losing hope he kept on watering it for the second season and took care of it. Still nothing happened. This went on for the next two seasons and on the fifth season the farmer noticed that the seed germinated and grew into a bamboo tree as high as ninety feet in about six weeks."

This can easily be ablied to IM, and more often then not, this is were most begginers fail. I'm not saying that you should hang on to a "slow" method but it never hurts to keep on trying for a few weeks before rejecting it as "dead". Patience is one of the most important factors in succeding, not just in IM, but in life in genral.

Never Rush It
"A young eager student of martial art one day asked his teacher how long will it take to learn the whole process of a new form and his teacher said that it would take about two years. Not willing to wait that long the student asked what if he really put his heart and soul into it. The teacher replied that in that case it will probably take four years."

It's always better to start slow and learning something correctly, no matter how much time it might require. Beacuse it may take much longer to "re-learn" somthing.

These are jsut two important "keys" to success in IM as well as in general.
Feel free to add to this "list"

I usually tell people that the key to success is to try. Because that is the thing most of us are afraid to do.

I agree with you. Patience, determination, tenaciousness, endurance, willing to learn attitude, I can do attitude, are ingredients that would take you to the road of success.

I might take a few months or years to get there, but eventually you will get there.

Many people think because this is the internet, money will flow in tons overnight, just by pressing a few bottons on the keyword.

    • Then again, there is also a Chinese proverb which says that the man who sits with his mouth open will wait a long time for roast duck to fly in.

I think you need knowledge, have ability, and be persistent.

It takes a map (knowledge) to know how to get to your destination. You need to be able (ability) to ride, walk, drive, fly...to get from point A to point B. Then you need to just keep truckin' (persistence) until you get there.

I believe that if you are lacking any one of those, it could keep you from succeeding. I said "could" because there is always dumb luck. Like heading off down the road without a map and just getting lucky that you were headed in the right direction

Spot on with those 3! Miss any one of them and its an uphill battle... but definitely persistence prevails.
I also think - get a mentor who knows what they are doing!

Very true! Especially when it comes to internet marketing. Someone just told me the other day that it takes 9 years to become an overnight success!

That person must have spent 8 years and 364 days failing, doesn't sound a good mentor!

Most of them don't like to change (comfort zone). Scare of failure so they rather don't take action. Want to be successful, must learn from mistake you make. More failure, you are almost there to success.

All those are true but I find been consistent is key number one, and focus is next but everything else you stated is great. Find one thing stick to it until it shows you that it is not for you, that's my take.

Talent, drive, an ability to accept multiple failures, the ability to not get too hyped over short term success, focus, a lot of coffee. There's tons more that goes into it too. We're talking about running a business after all. Simple platitudes and catch phrases aren't going to cover everything that needs to be covered.
