Book suggestions for growing a business - not copywriting advice, not jv advice, but business advice

Hey all,

I've been looking for some business books. I'm interested in expanding my company through marketing, but I don't need to know how to write good copy, or how to get affiliates. I need to know more about the specifics of getting inside businesses, of expansion, and ways to build up through new demographics, etc.

Is this too general a suggestion? Should I really be reading like 12 books on various topics? Or is anyone here familiar with a couple of books that really helped them learn how to grow?

(The best "Business" book I've read is the 4-hour work week, but it's not quite what I'm looking for.)

I couldn't find a thread quite like this, so anyone who can point me to one, I'd appreciate that also!

Thanks all

    Hi Seth,

Sounds like you are looking for books on business strategy. I published one of those, and it's available both for paperback and for Kindle:

    Strategic Marketing
    http://www.amazon.com/Strategic-Marketing-Insights-Directions-Business/dp/0971640734/

No MBA required! It's very readable and will get you thinking.

If you tell me more about your business I might be able to suggest a few other titles that have helped me over the years.

Be sure to check out Jay Abraham's material as he has some really innovative concepts for expanding your business.

His older materials were absolute gems...You might be able to find them on eBay...or maybe even on his own website!

    The E-myth by Micheal Gerber

He explains how a business is started by an entrepreneur, how it goes through three phases, the infancy phase, the adolescence phase, and the maturity phase.

and he talks about what you need to be doing to make sure your business grows through each of these three phases.

he also explalins very clearly why McDonald's is so successful. Just this part is great.

This is definately a great book and he makes things so easily to understand.
