$50,000 a month is NOT big money....what is big money to you?

Helllloooo everyone....

So what is "big money" or "a lot of money"to you? $10,000 a month...
$200,000 a month?

==I've added a poll above...please vote!

Everyone has a different perspective.....

For some people even if they are only making $2,000 a month...
$20,000 a month isn't "big Money" to them. Because there mindset it...
I know I can make $20,000...a lot of people make $20,000 online..so that's
not big for them....

With some people..the "Big Money" figure gets higher as their income increases...
Example...once "a lot of money" may have been $10,000 per month..but now they are doing $50,000 per month...so now "big money" to them might be $500k a month.

The question is...what is "Big Money" or "a lot of money" to you?

Giving light to your life...

I read this here somewhere I believe. A salary increase of $1000, makes a much larger difference in someone lifestyle than 2 or 3000. Something like that..

We adapt to what we have. So likely a marginal increase is going to be big money for anyone.

For me big money would be in the ballpark of $30,000 a month. We currently are pulling about 5k and this amount of money would be life changing for me right now. I agree that the higher your income goes then the higher the "big money" amount becomes because that would be true with me. I know when I was a kid I though $100 was BIG MONEY and I could buy a lot of things with that money. Now as an adult and having bills, living costs, etc. we all know that $100 is NOT big money. I know if you set your mind to something, like achieving a "BIG MONEY" income, and do the right steps towards that goal, then it will eventually be reached!

It's fun to talk about things like this but to say $50k is not big money flies in the face of the facts. 99 out of 100 people in the US make less than $20k per month.

I can't find any stats about the percentage less than $50k but the percentage that make more than $1.6 million ($133k/month) is around 1 in a 1,000. From those numbers, we can guess that about 1 in 300 makes more than $50k/month

I do get your point, that $50k is not big money. I agree. I'd lean more towards $200-300k per month as being great money. But it's hard to argue that $50k is not big money since the VAST majority makes much less.

Of course $50,000 Monthly is a lot of money. How much
does your average worker earn? $2,000 monthly? The
former is 25 times more. So it's definitely big money.

That would all depend on where you are financially. For me, I'd like to make a million dollars a month. I'll get there one day. Then when I get there, I'm gonna wanna make $2 Million dollars a month.

As I figured...many different points of view on this....this is no "wrong" view on this of course...

And indeed...agree...compared to what the average worker makes in the USA...it is far above them if you are at $50,000 per month...in fact you are then in the top 1%..the top 1% make $380k a year+

I am wondering though....as with anything in life with repetition...we get use to it.

I remember when I was young and working some crap job and making $8 an hour or whatever...If I seen someone making $20 I was like wow that's a lot...

But of course now that's not a lot to me at all....

I think with the more that you make....the more you get use to that amount...and it's not a lot to you anymore...well for me anyway. Not that I'm not thankful for how much I get or take it for granted...

I'm happy for all increase I get. For me...I just get use to the money if I'm at the same level...then want to shoot for higher...so what once was "big Money" for me before....when I reach that...and been there for a bit...I"m like ok..that's not big now lol..whats next...

    Yes, I'm sure.

In 2008 and some (maybe most) of 2009 I thought $10,000 per month was "big money".

Now I instinctively think $50,000 per month will be "big money".

It depends how you're doing, doesn't it? And maybe on some other things, too.

I'd be desperately disappointed (not to mention extremely concerned!) about a $10,000 month now, but that doesn't really change the fact that, by most standards, "objectively", it is actually "big money". If you compare it with the average national income (wherever you live!), and so on.

    Its not about the money
    its about how much time
and effort it took you to
    get it

Lets look at easy way to
    get 50k

    Hosting Affiliate marketing

You can put together a video
advising people how to set up
a website and why they need
    it in there niche

400 plus people watch that video
in a month and you will receive
50k+ in 60 days or sooner

It all depends on what you do to
    get the money

    50k is good money

Any of us in the Wf have the ability to make $50k...or whatever your "big money" goal is per month by the end of this year..I believe that 100%

Even if your only making $100 a month online right now...there is NO reason you can't be making $50 a month by December....But....that means no more excuses...

    No...I don't have time
No...I tried and it didnt work..nothing works..
    No....being lazy...drive 100%...100% of the time
    No....I don't have enough money
    NO...I don't have a mentor
    NO...I don't have enough time...

The only thing that is stoping you from reaching your "big Money" is you...

Yes-there are multiple stories of people making a few dollars a month...to all the sudden 10-20 then $50k+ very rapidly....

There is no reason you can't as well...

Anything is possible...don't let anyone EVER tell you different...

I hover around $40-50K/M online, it's given me plenty of investment opportunites offline to expand my wealth. At this point I don't consider there to be "bigger" money to catch, when you get to a certain point your wealth just growns on it's own. The best descion I ever made was taking the paychecks online and investing them in local ventures. I don't see how anyone can complain they aren't making enough at that range, I still am thankful and passionate towards newer guys trying to get their footing in IM.

Also wanted to add sure you can break that, but it's not worth the stress and added work load to me.

I think you need to consider the national average wage, which here in the UK isn't a lot, I would guess without looking at about $15k per year. So if you were earning that per month, it has to be considered big money.

Well first off most Americans are a little delusional when it comes to "big" money.

If I remember correctly people who make at least $34,000 a year are among the richest 1% in the world.

So anyone making over $2,800/month is technically making "big money" imo. They just lack the perspective to realize that thanks to greed (myself included which is why I have to make posts like this to remind myself).

Alexa said how much you make will taint your perspective & I definitely agree. But more than that I feel how much you CONSUME matters more than anything.

AFAIC my own brother makes "massive" money. Right now he's pulling in an avg of $34,000/month (which is ironic because if he made that a year he'd still be in the 1%). To me that is A LOT of money. To him its another story. Because he spends and consumes so damn much he's always complaining how he doesn't have enough money. His golf club membership alone is $60,000/yr. His beach club is also a lot although I forget exactly how much. To me thats a ridiculous waste of money.

Thats one thing about money the more of it I make the more I try not to increase my means of living. Ever since I graduated college I haven't really changed the way I live that much. I still live on discount veggies from shoprite, never buy chicken or eggs unless they're on sale, and all the fish I eat I catch myself on the weekends. Thats as complex as my diet gets. If I want sushi I make it myself, can't remember the last time I ate out at a fancy restaraunt and haven't been to a barber since I was 14 (I know how to cut hair fairly well).

Once again I don't view myself as cheap or frugal I just view the rest of the world like they're out of their minds (no offense lol).

$10,000 per month provides a very comfortable life and savings. Even if I was having a couple of holidays every month... So it's a great income...

However I don't think someone on $10,000 per month would be perceived as 'rich' per se. And the term "big money" would suggest someone who could buy anything they choose to without thinking of the price... So in that case, I think $25,000 - $50,000 per month is when we start talking about "big money".

Of course this would have to be consistent income though. One $50,000 month alone wouldn't be enough...

I think that ENOUGH is when your bills are paid and the ones you love are taken care of and you have enough money to give to causes that are BEYOND you. Giving to people who CAN'T make Any or very little is a great way to live and having that EXTRA to help others, makes it all worthwhile. You can live comfortably on $10000, but it's not what I would call 'big money'.

Anyone who doesn't consider $50000 'big' (regardless of their actual current earning or personal aspirations) is a bit out of touch with reality in my opinion.

This entirely depends on "how" you want to live. You can live comfortably on nothing if that is ones perspective. Once you build your earth home for $3000(?) then you furnish your land creating enough food to be self sufficient.
or live off the land in van by the river.

In short I wouldn't add a number to the equation. Comfort is subjective. That's why I asked for some specific explanations as to why some put $10 million or more. I mean I wouldn't mind $10 million a month to buy toys at the highest level, but, my real reason is moreso, to give to research, fund worthy causes, and, bring whole nations out of oppression.

I concur 100% with the statement about..what do you want to the $10 million for....if large amounts of wealth get into peoples hands that are evil or selfish...that's what will be birthed out of it.

But if you put $10 mill monthly into ones hand that's main mission in life is to give back....then will effect the lives of thousands...those thousands they effect will effect thousands around them..

    Interesting post,

    I went for $50k a month - I remember hitting that...those were the days!

I read an interesting chapter in a book once about this topic and it said:

"Imagine you are going for a job interview. You are confident. You are waiting to be called in and the door opens, your name is called. You get up and confidently walk towards the door - you feel this job is YOURS!"

"However as you come closer to the door you see the job details pinned up on the door and it is paying 10K MORE than you thought per year!"

    "How do you feel now?"

I think we link money to our sense of worth and a lot also has to do from our roots as well.

The truth is that the more money you get doesn't make $5000 any less an amount - in fact more often the more you get the better you hold onto it!

The sad thing is that we do link the job pays to what we think we are worth. We have all been raised that having a JOB is the way to go in life because it is "secure". Well if we all believed that then we wouldn't be on this forum would we? I know I wouldn't be here if I was comfortable with working a job the rest of my life hoping that I don't ever get let go. That is what is great about the internet. No one can ever fire you and your income usually always goes up! It is only a matter of time until you achieve your ultimate monthly income and when you surpass that amount it will be a feeling you can't describe.

    $10,000 a month as
    "Big Money"

I thought that would be the most popular choice. A few reasons....it seems to be a recurring theme online...many ads and courses preaching make $10,000 a month.

$!0,000 a month is a place where most people can live pretty comfortably.

$10,000 a month= $120,00 a year...that will put you in the top 10% of earners in the USA

$10,000 is a number I think a majority of the people believe they can make that...however if you ask them what about $100,000 a month...it so far and almost a fairytale that they never think they can hit it.

Bure sure to VOTE on the poll above!

The only problem I have with this question is the type of
    money we are talking about.

If this is total income before taxes and expenses, then 50K
would be gone faster than a dozen eggs in my house. At the
same time, I could live very, very comfortably on $5,000 of
"Life Money" per month, after taxes and business expenses.

The question is how much money would you have to make in
order to actually take home what you would consider big
    money.

Maybe I'm over thinking it, but I recently watched this
video that changed the way I view money as a whole:

I would say 50K is big money to me because my ideal
lifestyle wouldn't call for half of that, even after taxes
and online marketing expenses. In fact, I would be a happy
guy with 50K per year after everything.

For me right now, I'd be more than happy with 10k a month even though I'd shoot for 50k a month regardless. I could do a lot with 10k a month even after investing back into my businesses. God knows I'd love to be able to help my parents a lot now but I'm a long way to go before I reach 10k a month. Given that I was at near 36k a year with my job, I'd be hoping to shoot for at minimum, 36k a year though more is preferable.

honestly? the amount of money i need to live a good life as passive income is enough. i dont need to drive a ferrari or have a 5 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms villa. i just want to live a nice life. most people just dont get that money isnt everything as you cant buy the really important things like friends and love. not to forget time. time is the most important thing you have in life. look at it like this: you wont enjoy one million a day for your last 30 days of life as much as 5000 a month for the last 50 years of your life.

=I see a lot of people writing about I only need $2000-$5000 a month....or I just need enough to pay all of my bills etc...

Many People saying...I don't need all that money....

Hmmmmm I'm hearing a lot of "I"s in those statements....

    It's not always about "I" ....

In fact...the more you get....the more you can give and help people....

I've seen only a couple of comments mention Charity or helping people..

Why does it seem most people have the mindset, "I just need enough to live comfortably for myself"..."I don't need all that money"

When you start making 10's of thousands per month...you will be able to start helping more people...family friends....people in great need that you might not even know.

That is my goal in life...the more I receive ...the more I can give....it's not just about what's good for "I"...but what I can give back to this world.

I would find making 50K a month to be my target but I chose 1M a month. Just shooting for the stars there but I would be happy with 50K a month although Im new to IM at this point Im still trying to get my first website hosted lol. I cant really "see" that far ahead it doesn't seem possible but if others have done it Im not going to doubt it can't be done.

I can imagine I wouldn't spend like crazy if I had that much coming in. I'd be satisified with a used car and a single family home. Sure I'd take nice vacations but it sure would be nice to have something for my kid's college. Not sure I would be into the big spender lifestyle. My family could use more help getting by. I'd help them out when I could.

We read this here somewhere I think. A earnings increase regarding $1000, makes a bigger difference with someone way of living than 2 or 3000. Such as that..

We adapt to what we've. So most likely a little increase will probably be big money for any person.

I have nothing to add other than ALWAYS remain skeptic of people online who talk about how much money they've made and all that.

The people making all that big money (e.g. +50k/month) don't have the time nor desire to go on forums or put funny vids of themselves on Youtube claiming they make 17 million dollars and looking down to the side when they say it (like that guy on the vid above, big mistake buddy, I didn't like you already from the beginning and when you did that I clicked off from the video).

The people making the big money are busting their butt at work, doing late night meetings with the other Chief Officers and talking about strategy and real business development stuff (no fancy words like many IMers make up) and when these big guys get some spare time, they go play golf or go and spend $2000 dollars in a big meal and tip the barman with $100. And I know this from personal experience dealing with these people (and one of my family members is a self-made millionaire), they truly don't have the time to try to deceive gullible people into thinking that they have the keys to making big money.

Never trust anyone claiming they make X money with their "system", 99% of the time they try to con you into paying for their "system to making big bucks" which is nothing but rehashed stuff from basic business books and from rehashing what other IMers put in their ebooks. You know what is the system to making big money? Pick something which you think can make you money and spend the next couple of years working hard and smart. Buy one or two books from real successful businessmen (I recommend Philip Kotler for marketing stuff) and not con-artists, and if you work hard, the rewards will come.

Sorry to derail a bit but I actually clicked on some of the the sidebar vids of the above video for a bit of entertainment and I saw the usual disgusting con-artists that are abundant in the IM niche.

How accurate do you think the above statement is? If we take out professional sports players and TV and movie workers, then it kind of leaves everybody else or the rest of us...sort of? right?

Do one out of ten people really make $10,000 a month? Households or people? I went to a state fair recently and a concert. I spent part of the time people watching. Thousands of people. It is all relative.

I recall working some place where the highest paid workers i worked with were paid $7 an hour and I sooo wanted to make that too. That was my goal. Note this was several decades ago.

Then I thought I would be rich if I made $50000 a year, then $75000 a year and my holy grail was $100000. Well I achieved all those goals and far surpassed that at my day job.

It isn't even a matter of what is big money but rather at least replacing my income working from home. I would be really happy with that for a start.

I really hate how much taxes i pay though.

Everyone's idea of "big money" changes as you make more.

-When you're 5 years old, having $5 in your wallet is awesome
-When you're 10, having like $30 makes you rich
    -At 15, if you have $500+, you're a prince
-In college, a few thousand goes a LONG way

And on and on it goes.

What would I be extremely comfortable with? $15K-$20K per month. But once I hit that mark, I know I'd think it was too low and keep shooting for more!

Hey Jeff how's FL!....Don't worry if no one will hire you..that could just mean you need to dive into your goals online even more.

Let's say someone did hire you right now...then it took tons of your time and your tired and didn't feel like working online that much....let's say you were making $10 an hour....

But....since no one is hiring you...that they puts you into a place where...I HAVE to make this work....which you wouldn't have had if you were working for someone else.

There is no reason Jeff...no reason at all that you can't be making $5,000+ a month by this month...or the latest the end of this year.

I've done it from zero....I've seen tons of people do it on here as well...so it's 100% possible.

Only you can stop you from making that much...no factors around you..

I have to say the results from your poll are very interesting. Thanks for posting this!

I know that once you start getting into the $50k per month mark that everything becomes a lot easier financially. It can be considered a real business as most of the businesses that I have worked with struggle below the $400k mark per year.

But with an internet based business with low costs a lot of that is profit so it is a nice model if you are earning upwards of $50 per month.

But I agree with a lot of the comments above, big money is in the eye of the beholder.

For a few years I didn't have a single month where I made less than $100k net profit, and several months with a lot more than that.

The money came relatively easy and I got cocky, thinking that this will continue forever. I have had some expensive hobbies for many years, but I wasn't been able to take them as seriously as I wanted until I started to make a lot of money.

One of my hobbies is race horses. At one point I owned more than 20 race horses on my own, all in professional training. If you know how much it costs to keep a horse in professional training each month you understand what type of expense this is...even when accounting for the small price money coming in.

I also let costs in my business and other parts of my personal life escalate to huge levels. This is much easier to do than most people think when the money starts rolling...

When the money no longer flowed as easily as it once did, it was much harder than I could ever have imagined to cut down my costs!

I still make in the mid 5-figures most months, but I need at least $20k just to maintain my family's normal lifestyle.

So for me, although $100k monthly net profit certainly IS big money, having already experienced that it wouldn't change my life drastically. I would say that $250k per month in steady income would though, so that would be "big money" for me.

I have a plan that should hopefully take me there in 12-18 months.

Big money would definitely mean $10 million per month to me and up and the amount will increase with time.
One would never mind to have more money and when a goal is obtained, higher standard would be set.
Running a successful business with a revenue of $1 million per month can be easily obtained. Actually, it is not really the revenue or income per month that matters, it is the profitability that really matters. The amount left after deducting all costs and expenses. This applies in business and life.

Once you hit that amount 50K per month is only a matter of time so long as you keep reinvesting and plugging away. Exponential growth.

I think that you can't just put your finger on it and say "10K/20K/whatever is big money" because the term big money evolves with your monthly costs (living and business) thus it's not a static number. I would say that big money is when you cover all your bills and other costs (including hobbies, luxury) and after all that you can still just walk into a ferrari dealership and drive your way out in a new 458 (just an example) without even thinking if you can afford it, because you know you CAN.

What I want to say is that as long as you expand your business and the amount to maintain your lifestyle is getting higher every month, so long the term big money is not a static, but growing number. One month is 10K, next it can be 15K, you never know.

Right now for me big money would be 5K but I know that the next month it wouldn't be enough so I would aim for 10K.

    Hope that makes sense .

As long as you're making more or equal as then you comfortably spend you are making BIG money imo. I make 8 times more money then a year ago but I don't exceed the 10k/month yet. Still I feel like I'm making big money. As I can do whatever I want. Next month I go on a roadtrip to Thailand, ha imagine that "roadtrip" and I live in Europe. When I arrive there I can almost live like a king.

Sure I can't buy an expensive car, boat or villa.

But do I need it? No.
Do I want it? It's not really on my to-do list but why not
Do I miss it? Absolutely not
Would it make me more happy? Definitely not

What's much more important is that you have a consistent income that you can rely on.

Yes indeed ... sounds "about right" to me, in the sense that $10k per month is an amount clearly higher than the national/regional average income almost everywhere (apart from one or two small places with anomalous statistics for various reasons, like Monaco or Grand Cayman).

    Hey...

in IM right now, I'm nearly hitting 10k per month, when I first started off, $10k per month was my target, and I knew its a lot of money to earn, and live off, and believe me it is
    It's a very comfortable income.

However I just get used to it and think to my self that I can do with 'more' which is why my target for next year is to double it to $20k per month, and I do believe I can hit that.

Looking back three years ago, my life was totally different - financially of course, I am very grateful for IM and the people I've worked with to get me where I am today.

Are you kidding me 50k a month is not much ? it's too much hahaha. $2,000 per month is a lot of money for me - i would be really happy if i could earn it every single month.

Well to most people, $20k a month is big money.

Yeah this will depend on who you talk to and where they live and what their life experiences are. But I can say that I thought $30K a month was rich. But living in So Cal on the beach, with wife and kids, a mortgage, 2 cars, school costs, daycare, karate classes, violin classes, etc, well that $30K doesn't seem so rich anymore.

If you look at it like, well out of $30K monthly, 40% goes to taxes, and I forgot to include basics like food and utilities. Well you quickly see that $30K in cali isn't rich. If it was in Nebraska though, and I was single, well I'd be big balling it.

Hey guys, I would like to tell you all my personal experience from a real estate seminar I went recently. This person whose actual earning at least a million monthly was telling that always you should think 1 million is small to you so subsconciously you will actually really think it's possible and work hard for it. She told if we going to think that 10k is enough for us we eventually will only stop at 5-6k.

I guess it depends on your lifestyle. If you plan to have a boeing like John Travolta... well, one ferrari... even 50k a month isn't enough right?

It also depends on the place you live as says tjaysen70.

In my case...i don't know. I'm happy with what I have know but always trying to get more...

The most important is to be happy with what you have now.

    Peace

For me its more than an absolute dollar amount, its also about what I make per hour. Right now I do this as a hobby and net 4 figures, but work less than one day per week. So if you go by dollar amount, a net of 10k a month would be big money for me. The problem is if I had to work hard for that 10k it probably wouldn't seem worth it. Now if I could take home 10k per month as passively as what I do now it would be life-changing.

Personaly the average houshold income in my country is around $10 k per month anyway so Big Money starts when you go above the average.

For me it's $50,000 per month

Big money comes in stages. Once you reach a goal then you look for another. No one should start thinking of 1 million every month when they just started. For me big money is $10,000 per month. Once there it can be more.

Yep exactly. I would say 30k a month would be my next milestone to achive....that is 30k a month consistently...not just a month here or a month there.

    Good thinking Lyfe!

This post is taking the warrior forum by storm!

    LOL

Well, in my case big money will be somewhere around $50k and $100k per month... But once I get there, I guess it'll rise

There are no limit to dream high. But i do not believe in day dream. I think it is really possible to earn $50000 per month. But it would take long time to shape. I believe that every thing needs time to shape. Thanks for your posting. It would help all of us to dream high.

The main problem here is that you are asking a very broad question, without having defined how much money you intend to keep in the bank.

It´s better to make $50,000 a month and keep $30,000 than to make $120,000 and just keep $20,000.

Focus not only on how much you make, but more important how much you keep. How much you keep will always be so much less due to advertising costs, employee costs, taxes, cost of living and much more.

Those who are smart do not just focus their time and energy on making more, but maximizing net profit.

Why would you start milking another cow if you are not done milking the current one?

The problem is that most people automatically adjust their lifestyle when making more money. This is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make. When they earn $3000 a month, they spend $2500 on themselves. When they earn $6000 a month, they spend $5000 on themselves.

If you don´t get out of the mindset of spending more as you make more, you will find yourself broke all over the place, no matter how much money you make.

Spend less. Focus more on saving and reinvesting.

My goal is to make $1,000 a day. So anywhere around $30,000 a month is pretty good to me, but I wouldn't consider it "big money" either. I think $1,000 a day would allow me to live extremely comfortably though. Change that figure to $150,000 a month and not only would I be a "millionaire" but I'd consider myself "rich."

50-100k per month is the only way. I think many of us get into business for a "means to an end". For me its nothing else, honestly the difference between 5k-10k per month is a nicer car... im not that shallow, its cool but will not make me happy. What would make me happy is taking the 50-100k and diversifying my income and investments to eventually be able to stop and just live if i want to. I think the reason so many fail is because they are shooting too low. If you only want to make 1k per month online your going to act like someone who is making 1k a month online.

I was making money before all this internet stuff, so i understood it takes money to make it and would never be happy making 1k per month. I do not need 100k per month but have a good enough gauge on life to know it is needed in order to live a free live long term. We could all live and be happy on 5k per month but what happens if it stops coming in? A few years with 50-100k per month that problem goes away. Thanks.

Also weedy said more money can be made but not worth the added work/stress. I completely respect that, i dealt with it in an older business and actually hurt me long run, i lost focus of vision because i started to hate what i was doing. Sometimes you need to do all you can do in one thing until the next opportunity presents itself in which you can get into.
